Friends, romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
Before every home game I recieve the customary tweet from the club that The Pirate is available to buy at the ground. The Pirate is a great programme and I'm proud it is ours.
I live in Sweden however, and find it hard to swing by The Mem on my way to IKEA to buy wolf repellent, snow shoes etc
So every week I tweet back "When is the digital version available for purchase and download?" to which I recieve no reply whatsoever, remarkable for twitter, there is normally someone with the spare time to call me a zionist/nazi or whatever.
I want to read the programme, and I am sure there are others that CANT or WONT attend The Mem but WILL PAY MONEY to read the programme on their phone/laptop/tablet or whatever.
It can't be that hard to do, surely? This is a genuine revenue stream for the Rovers that they are ignoring.
I'm happy to take the question further if there is enough interest, anyone?

An excellent suggestion and one that could form part of a large number of ways in which the club could modernise. I don't know the economics of programme sales at Rovers, but I get the impression that sales of the programme are diminishing. However, nearly everyone attending the Mem has a mobile phone and (for the appropriate fee) I'm sure plenty at the ground as well as exiles would download.
For what it is worth, I always used to buy the programme, but I'm less inclined to now, partly because the information I am interested in is already available elcectonically.

Understandable that the club refuse to communicate with self confessed Ikea shoppers .....

Great idea and hopefully some time in the not so distant future may be taken onboard.

I remember Malcom Allison saying he could "probably" sign Jonny Ekström, a statement that still gets chuckles over here. Who to contact at the club? Out of touch over here.

Keith as always does a fantatic job with the programme. Was/is there a programme award for the conference?

I would have thought that it would have gone to the printers in a PDF format, so should not be that hard to do. Used to do the same thing with Menu's for the pub.

It's not difficult, you have one PDF set up for print and one for digital download. The cost implication is minimal, server disk space, bandwidth, the mechanism for purchase and an administrator, most of which is already in place. Surely you could also increase advertising revenues.

I'd buy it too. Surely someone at the club could set this up? If they spent a whole day doing it, plus 10 mins per week to post up the new programme (which is all it would take) the cost to the club is minimal. If it only brought in £500 per season extra plus an extra advertiser or two then it would be a day well spent.

Ah, the problem with this excellent suggestion is that it falls into the category of 'innovative' and 'quite lucrative'. These are two terms which are very rarely associated with Rovers. Best of luck though, what ho!

UTG Do you have a fax machine? The Rovers PR machine are bang up to date in the latest fax technology and im sure they would fax you a copy, you need to get a reply to your Tweet first though, I wish you luck.

This will probably be resolved when we move to the new stadium, which is necessary to resolve all shortcomings. Apparently.

Hi everyone have been following the thread about the lack of ma digital programme and felt I needed to clarify the situation. The idea was mooted a couple of years ago and I wrote to every Football league club asking if they had any experience of using a digital service alongside the hard copy. The answers, (only 19 bothered to respond) were all very negative and all of those clubs said that in their opinion it wasn't worth doing and they were making nothing from digital sales. Admittedly the situation may have changed in the intervening two years and if there is sufficient interest from Rovers supporters then I will investigate again. Our printers advise me that an Apple Licence is required before we can issue a digital programme but if there are, for example, 100 Rovers supporters who would subscribe to a digital version of the programme then it will be worth further investigation. We currently operate a subscription service for the hard copy and have only 35 subscribers. Apologies if you feel that your comments have been ignored and that tweets haven't been answered. However if you have any constructive comments regarding the programme I would be happy to hear from you - email me at keithbrookman@bristolrovers.co.uk Keith Brookman

There you go then all Gas who cannot attend matchdays to buy a programme. Organise yourselves through the power of the interweb thing, get 100 to commit and off you go! Apologies to Keith for my earlier comment?

Wow, only 35 subscribers? I'm one of the 35. I have to say Keith and the team of contributors do an excellent job and our programme is always a fantastic read and always there or thereabouts at awards time. As I can't make every game a subscription is a great way to get every programme (I have every home prog since we moved to Twerton) and I'd recommend it to any exiled fans or those unable to make it to the Mem every game. Got my Barnet programme in the post this morning :-)

Whats the subscription price for a hard copy and would digital be the same price or cheaper? With many magazines and fanzine subscriptions you'd expect upto a third off the cover price which makes for a very enticing offer.

Thanks for replying to this thread Keith. I subscribe to the Speedway Star electronic version, it is the same as the cover price, but obviously there is no p+p to pay, which makes it ideal for those living outside the UK.
