Well let's face it, if Wardy had served up the sort of shower I had to witness yesterday a certain poster would be calling for public execution.
Absolutely dreadful performance and DC needs to stop letting his personal issues with players affect decisions.
1) Harrison was our top scorer last season, our best goals to minutes ratio by a country mile and scores the crucial goal at Wembley. His performances in the final third of the season are probably one of the key reasons DC didn't spend the summer at the dole office. His reward? Leaving him on the bench. Okay he hasn't had a great pre-season but if we're picking based on that the goals have come from Blisset, Bodin and Lucas not the two that started yesterday!
2) Midfield: I said earlier in the week I don't overly like two out and out wingers and I felt that if it meant getting Mansell, Sinclair and Lines in the same team I'd be prepared to play one of them as a 'rush wide player'. With Mansell injured we didn't have that selection headache so surely you play Sinclair and Lines in the middle. DC deemed Adam Dawson not good enough despite terrorising defenders and creating numerous assists and instead resigned Gosling and brought in Montano and Monokaka. Two of the three aren't deemed by DC to start a game? If we really didn't want to play 2 out and out wingers surely you could play Lockyer/James Clarke at RB, Leadbitter on the wing and Sinclair in the middle that way 2 out of the 3 play in the position they played the majority of last season in and Leadbitter has all the attributes you'd need for a defensive minded winger.
3) Cresswell, Northampton's bald number 6 put in probably the best centre half performance I've seen at this level. With no disrespect to him or Northampton if he was as good as he looked he wouldn't be playing for them. Instead of constantly hoofing it to his head surely you mix things up, hit the ball into the channels, get him twisting and turning and facing his own goal? No, let's just hoof it instead.
Look I don't want to go overboard there's 45 games to go and Northampton will be at least pushing for the playoffs. They're like they always seem to be hardworking, functional and play the game to the limits of the laws. DC's problem with Parkes was for me a key reason we got relegated and not playing Harrison and Dawson enough a key reason why we had to go through the playoffs. I really just hope he can man-up.
