In the Gas Guzzler section there's a thread about Rovers playing budgets v other conference clubs. I thought I read somewhere that clubs like Manchester City couldn't get their owners to sponsor the Goalposts, Bins, Club cat etc just to cover the FFP That's why Uefa have slapped their wrists. See link below. www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/16/manchester-city-fine-transfer-cap-uefa-ffpGasHeadGaz says I was listening a while back to 5live, they had a lawyer on and he was talking about FFP. He was saying how the rich owners can sponsor a bin for £20M, set the top price tickets at £40M each(guess who buys those tickets?) Sponsor the shirts for £X Millions. FFP is easily got around. Read more: www.gasheads.org/thread/367/playing-budgets-conference-clubs#ixzz35dx25QCRNow if what the lawyer on five live says is correct, why didn't Manchester City's owners just sponsor something, and therefore not incur the fine? At the bottom of the linked article it does say that Uefa also had concerns over the value of their £350m sponsorship with Etihad

One of the difference is that the Football League uses SCMP (or Salary Cost Management Protocol) rather than the FFP used in top-flight leagues. There are many differences between the two systems, but the biggest is that the Football League is very reluctant to go into any kind of details about the actual rules behind SCMP... A few websites/blogs have had a few questions answered, one of the best is Financialfairplay.co.uk. The whole article is well worth a read, but here's the key segment... The rules are next to useless in creating a 'level' playing-field. They are only there to stop clubs who will go bust soon spending too much more before they do...

Thanks Big Dave.
That sort of back ups what I was saying, and goes against what the lawyer was saying. Maybe the lawyer on the radio was that Wycombe bloke god of thunder or whatever his name was who was posting bollocks on here a week or so ago.

Thanks Big Dave. That sort of back ups what I was saying, and goes against what the lawyer was saying. Maybe the lawyer on the radio was that Wycombe bloke god of thunder or whatever his name was who was posting bollocks on here a week or so ago. The whole 'bin-sponsor' comment is a sound-bite I've heard and read several times over the last few years. The 'equality' that SCMP/FFP was designed to bring has never worked in the lower leagues. I hope they fix it before we get back into them...
