Who will be our number 1 this season?
I haven't been fortunate enough to make any of the friendly games, so what is the general feeling towards who will be starting in goal comes the start of the season?
Obviously Puddy had a good stint in the team last season, however Mildenhall does offer the experience. In our relegation year i thought he was the key reason our defense looked so solid. He did make some mistakes last year, but so does everyone, i think he still has a good season left in him.

I think it'll be Mildenhall to start with.

Yes 100% Mild's to start, Puddy was giving me a heart attack at Wembley with all his charging out the box and stuff.

Mildenhall will start the season as he's had an uninterrupted pre-season.

I think that Steve Mildenhall will start in the opening game.

I hope Puddy, but I think both are decent keepers.

Puddy's groin injury has meant Mildenhall is in possession. I'm not unhappy with that.

Mildy - Good. I don't think the displacement last season will have done him any harm though!

Mildenhall with Puddy ready to capitalise if Mildy slips up, the competition is good for the both of them.

This reminds me of the story of why the great Brian Clough used to wear a green keeper's jersey in the dugout.
'One day at Forest apparently he thought Peter Shilton was getting too big for his boots so he went into the dressing room wearing Shilton's shirt and pointed to the number on the back: "There's only one f**king number one around here, young man ..."'

I was at highbury to see shilton play for forest two days after he was front page news in the sun, caught playing away from home with a bird called tina, to say he took some stick that afternoon is a understatement to say the least, never laughed so much at a game.

We have to start the season with Mildenhall as he will have done a full pre-season, and Puddy is still injured. I'm quite impressed by what I've seen of Kieran Preston, and sending him on loan to Redditch (with a recall clause if needed) looks like a good move, as it was for Jamie Lucas last season.

I haven't been impressed with Mildenhall to be honest he's made two dreadful mistakes to cause goals, one against Salisbury and the opener against Reading and he's very slow in getting the ball into play when in his possession, Chewy has got a great song for him though. I've seen Preston play once which was against the Mangoes and he looked very competent and made a couple of really good saves. Until Puddy recovers from his injury and gets some game time we're not likely to see him play in the opening game. My choice would be Puddy but I'm not the manager, I'll leave that decision down to him, he seems pretty good at his job and doesn't need any advice from me

The funniest thing I remember is Clive Walker getting done for exposing himself on the Tube, later after he had moved to Brighton they played us at Twerton. Naturally there were lots of "get your knob our for the girls, but that particular day Brighton wore pink shirts with NOBO (makers of white boards) emblazoned across their shirts

I thought it was an amazing 30 yard strike at Salisbury. If it was from us, we'd be giving credit to the long shot. Milds did get a hand on it. And the goal v Reading I saw as too much space on the left and fella exploited getting behind the defence...

I think it's just an age thing and his judgement in making decisions when to come out or stay back on through balls is being seriously compromised, it appeared to me and a number around me against Cheltenham he was definitely at fault for the first goal, you could see how annoyed he was with himself plus the penalty. On the other hand he made a fantastic save in the first half too. It's a shame the other goalie on trial didn't really get a game but hopefully Puddy gets himself fit pretty quickly
