From March 2010...
Hello Gasheads
Here at last is the news all you loyal fans have been waiting and hoping for. Next week work will begin on plans for our new new stadium which will be located in the North Bristol - South Gloucestershire area. This is the start of the long march to that promised land of footballing success and financial security which awaits us just over the hill. Following is our five point plan revealed exclusively to you for the first time today :
1) The Memorial Stadium is to be sold to Bristol Rugby Club who are better placed than us to develop it as a sporting venue. They have access to far greater investment potential within their club than we do and don’t see a need for student accommodation or a hotel as part of the plan. They simply want to create a stadium fit for premier league rugby which will attract fans with it’s improved facilities and enable their club to become financially sustainable.
2) The funds generated from the sale of our primary asset will clear all debts and enable us to carry out a restructuring of the company including repaying investments held by shareholders who wish to relinquish their participation. We shall also be able to buy up the contracts of players and other personnel who will not be part of our future plans. A secure financial base will put us in a better position to offer competitive terms to players we need as part of our on-field strategy, to bring in new players, to create a more extensive player development and coaching structure and to recruit experienced executives in other areas of the business.
3) We will sign a short term lease with the Rugby club so we can continue playing matches at the Mem until our new home is ready.
4) The new 30 000 all seater stadium will be part of a multi use development which includes retail, leisure and quasi governmental components and is destined to become a nationally recognized landmark due to it’s innovative design and groundbreaking concept. The promoters are a joint venture company consisting of major commercial property groups (which I cannot name for legal reasons) and an investment firm owned by a number of your Directors including myself. BRFC will be taking a long lease on the ground and paying rent to the development company but all profits generated within the stadium itself will flow directly to the football club. The exact location cannot be revealed at the present time due to planning confidentialities.
I believe everyone connected with our club know in their hearts that we cannot continue indefinitely with the situation as it is. We see Championship class players come to the club and perform well but have to face the fact that to recruit a squad of such players is beyond our means. We visit other clubs which traditionally have been at our level and see facilities which give them opportunities to commercially exploit success on the pitch whereas we have no hope of doing so at the Mem. It is for these reasons that change is necessary and I have every confidence that you will understand the logic behind our plan and be willing to support it.
We need to raise £3 million to pay Pants Leisure to get this one off the ground so whether you want preference, deference or flatulence shares just send all the money you have to Mr Tombola at the club offices. Please enclose a stamped addressed envelope so we can forward the documents which will confirm you have been certified.
Yours faithful and true
Nicky
