A few youngsters have left Rovers for bigger clubs recently, but one we let go back in 2011 is now about to be sold for £8m according to my local paper. Ipswich signed Tyrone Mings from Chippenham a bit over 2 years ago. According to Mings, Rovers thought he was too small for u18 football and let him go, but he admits he was much shorter back then. He joined Yate from us, then Chippenham before going to Ipswich. Now off to Bournemouth for £8m. Can't them all right I suppose!

Bournemouth spending 8 million on one player, how times change. I remember not so long ago they were having bucket collections at their ground.
As for Mings, the lad improved massively in a short space of time, we could only judge him at that time and that was that he wasnt good enough.

Put this on the football sub forum...
I honestly didn't see Ty making the leap when I saw him numerous times for Yate & Chippenham. I thought he'd make a good Conference defender but for me that was his limits. He's a lovely lad and I'm incredibly pleased it's worked out for him. When he's not playing you'll often see him with his Dad (Aidie former Chippenham manager & player) at local non-league games. Ty got his chance at Ipswich thanks to Russell Osman (Russell's son Toby played alongside Ty at Chippenham). Ty went to Ipswich got on well and has developed not only as a player but as a man. He's twice the size he used to be and has used the toughness he grew up with in non-league to help him.
Did we miss out? Of course we did but, I won't use it as a stick to beat Rovers with because I couldn't see this coming and I'd seen him a dozen+ times.

That's not to say there aren't plenty of players that I've told Rovers about from the lower reaches that have gone on to have good careers in the football league. I can however see why Tyrone wasn't picked up.

Some you win, and some you lose.
Ask any manager you like . . . from any division.

I'm still annoyed we missed out on Ian Wright before he joined Palace.

Craig Bellamy was spotted by Jarman and we had him at our under 14s side in Chepstow but when Jarman moved to work for Norwich City he took Bellamy with him
