Anyone else pleased that they seem to have blown their chances (again)?

Sorry I don't, I've supported Bristol Rugby as long as I've supported the Gas. Unfortunately they played extremely poorly in the first leg of the final and are going to find it extremely difficult to turn around the ist leg deficit. However, with a sell out crowd behind them at the Mem who knows what might happen. I'll be cheering as loud as anyone at the Mem next Wednesday night hoping for a victory that will propel Bristol into the English Rugby Premiership league. However, the end of the game will be tinged with sadness for me as it will be their last game at the Mem (I've been watching them play there since the late 1950's) before their move to Trashton. Will I like them going there, no, will I go and support them there, no. I'll always 'support' my home team but from now on it will be from a distance.

The Memorial Ground reeks of failure, the sooner both clubs move out of the place the better imo, although I'd rather stop watching sport altogether than support a club that is a tenant of the tax exile and his football club.

Yes, I was disappointed to see Bristol RFC's poor showing in the first leg. One thing's for certain, they've got their work cut-out now.
But I suppose it's the double edged sword syndrome if you bring Trashton Gate and SL's multi-fronted empire into it, they immediately lose a lot of support and sympathy from their traditional supporters. Even if they win and qualify for the top tier now, things won't be the same again . . . they can't be surely?
Bristol RFC belong in north Bristol, not south of the river. But then again, that's progress of a kind, I suppose.

Can you imagine the atmosphere at Trashton with only 4 or 5,000 rattling around in it....sends a cold shiver up my back just imagining it. And just to make it worse the silence is deafening coming from the board with regard to the new stadium which suggests the Mem could stay in it's current condition for many more years to come. :wallbang:

I find it odd that some Rovers fans think supporting their local rugby team somehow shows support for Bristol City. I will be there on Wednesday and hoping that Bristol can somehow turn it around.

As someone who pays tax I'll be delighted if they get absolutely stuffed.

I don't see why this latest venture should be any different.

Hoping a turnAROUND comes Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using Tapatalk 2 I am not a Rugby fan but in the past looked out for Bristol, but since the announcement that they were moving to the s**tpit I wish them every failure that I wish on all of the sporting clubs in the BCFC stable. If I were to support a Rugby club now it would be Bath, a place that many gasheads have happy memories of.

But your comment about a bristolian supporting Bath is ridiculous. If we had stayed at Twerton and had eventually changed our name to Bath Rovers would you have supported a Bath team or as a Bristolian switched your allegiance to the only club that remained in and were called Bristol? Equally if we cease to exist would you then support the remaining Bristol football team, or would you find some other team you'd more likely follow?

I really feel for all of the loyal supporters of Bristol RFC.
In some ways I see their position as being somewhat similar to the position that supporters of BRFC find themselves in. Not identical of course, but like us they have to take whatever is dished up for them, whilst continuing to live (and dream) the dream.
I know that it's not relevant to BRFC any longer, but I do wonder how their move south of the river will be received by the supporters of Bristol RFC?

The night of the long knives, eh? But seriously it's not as bad as it first appears, what it all boils down to is . . .
Players departing Bristol: George Watkins, Adam Hughes, Tristan Roberts, Redford Pennycook, Callum Braley, James Grindal, Mariano Sambucetti (retired), James Merriman (retired), Bryan Rennie, Fautua Otto, Will Davis, Sammy Speight, Ollie Hayes, Steve Uren, Bruce Douglas, Adam D’Arcy, Stuart McInally (returns to parent club), Ruki Tipuna, Iain Grieve, Rupert Freestone, Errie Claassens.
Players retained by Bristol: Charlie Amesbury, Luke Baldwin, Nick Carpenter, Gaston Cortes, Mitch Eadie, Ryan Edwards, Luke Eves, Ellis Genge, Ben Glynn, James Hall, Jason Hobson, Jack Hughes, Adrian Jarvis, Ross Johnston, Joe Joyce, Rhys Lawrence, Mark Lilley, Marco Mama, Ben Mosses, Nicky Robinson, Andy Short, Ben Skirving, Auguy Slowik, Mark Sorenson, Jack Tovey, Glen Townson, Kyle Traynor, Jack Wallace.
New signings for next season: David Lemi (Worcester), Dwayne Peel (Sale), Anthony Perenise (Bath), Jack O’Connell (Leinster), Darren Hudson (Leinster), Max Crumpton (Harlequins), Chris Brooker (Worcester), Jack Lam (Hurricanes), Ross Rennie (Edinburgh), Nick Koster (Bath), Ryan Jones (Ospreys), Matthew Morgan (Ospreys), Craig Hampson (Leeds), Olly Robinson (Moseley), Mark Cooke (UWIC), Callum Sheedy (Millfield), Lucas Slowik (SGS Filton).
The only ''real'' loss of course is Callum Braley, who is a real ''live'' prospect, but the majority of the rest would have been released in any event. Looking again at the new recruits, I wonder how many of them would have committed to Bristol RFC if they had known in advance that they would have been playing in the Championship next year?
But I do wonder if we're to hear of any changes on the coaching staff in the near future?
