How are they decided? I thought one of the best referees we've had recently, was the one on Saturday v Alfreton. Turns out, he is the most experienced! His baby faced features belied that. He was Ben Toner. Conversely, the idiot whom booked Blissett for a normal challenge, 12 inches off the floor (when opposition player opted to head it) was relatively inexperienced this season, and card happy. He was John Brooks. Interesting for those whom like it, and I hope the referee doesn't decide whom gets promoted.. : www.soccerbase.com/referees/home.sd?comp_id=9

As long as it's not that b*astard Daniel Cook (Cock) who 'refereed' the Braintree away game.

Interestingly John Brooks was the assistant referee at the FA Cup Semi Final who incorrectly flagged offside for the disallowed Balotelli goal at the end of the game.

John brooks has been 'fast-tracked' into the Premiership assistant referees list and is on the FIFA list - how on earth do they select these guys?

Randomly I would suggest, with little thought as to their ability.

I guess I'm probably to cynical, but I think there is a preference for card happy referees. There is always an implied support if a ref has made a decision to award a card (right or wrong) e.g. the Wes Brown mistaken identity incident. Common sense seems to to be frowned upon.

Maybe because football is like big business? And as with most big business ideas, it's all about whom you know not what you know and face fits. Some truly awful decisions in space of a couple of weeks. Only glad he's not on our play list now..

To be verified, but I have found this:
Wed 29th Apr 2015 Forest Green Rovers FC (First Team) v Bristol Rovers FC (First Team) Football Conference - Premier Referee: Swabey, Lee Assistant Referee: Smedley, Ian Assistant Referee: Eva, Matt Fourth Official: Huxtable, Brett
As far as I know, Swabey has refereed us 3 times already this season, v. Lincoln (2:0), v. Wrexham (1:0) and v. Forest Green (0:1)
Others will have a better memory, but one key decision I remember was sending off the Wrexham player (justly in my mind), but immediately following the crowd giving the ref the bird.

He's also booked Lee Mansell in all 3 games he has had with Rovers this season. Make up your own mind, but Swabey is from Devon.

Sorry for the multiple posts, but also this:
Sun 3rd May 2015 Bristol Rovers FC (First Team) v Forest Green Rovers FC (First Team) Football Conference - Premier Referee: England, Darren Assistant Referee: Howard, Paul Assistant Referee: Dabbs, Robert Fourth Official: Bromley, Adam
Darren England refereed our away games at Grimsby (1:0), Halifax (2:2) and Tranmere in the cup (0:1)
He has only issued two red cards this season, one for the guy at Tranmere who lashed out in the corner.
