TBH I think winning promotion back to league football will be a bigger achievement than getting promoted to Div 1, solely on the basis that we won't have to face another season of being in the wilderness of non league football. Posters saying they won't celebrate are just talking BS or are WUM's.

Let's take one game at a time, next up Kiddie beyond that I can only dream.
Pleased we still have a chance after a poor start & trailing Barnet by 10 points or more at one stage.
Think the team has been consistent and very hard to beat this season, long may that continue.
Come on you Blues see you at Kiddie tomorrow.

We are about to win a division in English football's league system. Non league or not, I think it is a significant part of our history. It is a bit disrespectful and comes across billy big balls to not pay the event the respect it deserves and brush it off as something of an embarrasment. More so, what message does that send to the players who have worked very hard all season to win a bloody difficult league? "Thanks for getting our League status back, but let's not make a fuss, we'd rather not dwell on it." I think the team and DC deserve a heck of a lot more than that. Heres some more 'billy big balls' for you, I don't think that the play off finals should be at Wembley, the only games played there should be the FA cup final and England full internationals. I have been laughing for 2 weeks at the sh1theads in their jesters hats and giant hands jumping up and down pretending that they had won a serious competition,so no I wont be showing myself up celebrating winning this division. Until reading this thread I was blissfully unaware that there was a conference trophy, now I am imagining it to be twice the size of the European cup, this season has been humiliating enough so IF we do win it lets just quietly get on with things and try not to make ourselves look ridiculous.

You sound like a sad individual with the greatest of respect. Lets not kid ourselves, we are here for a reason. But if you can't take pride in climbing our way back up from our darkest period then why do you bother supporting? Its a competition. I'm sure many Stockport fans would give their left testicle to be in our position and relish every moment.

I am a 'sad individual' ? coming from someone who wants any excuse to celebrate that's a good one. Is this the 'darkest period ' for Rovers ? darker than the South stand fire ? darker than the move to Twerton ?, I don't know but it has been the most embarrassing period. You ask me why I bother supporting the club through the dark times and I will answer because that's when the club needs support, let me ask you a question,as you seem to be the sort of person who is looking for an excuse to celebrate winning something (anything ! ) why do you bother supporting Rovers ?.

Ask Man City fans who were around 15 years or so ago and they'll tell you that while their time in the third tier was utterly embarrassing and they barely sneaked out (2-0 down to Gillingham at Wembley in the 90th minute, somehow pulled it back to 2-2 and won on penalties), they look back on that season's promotion with some fondness because it marked the beginning of the revival of their club. Winning the FA Cup and Premier League title wouldn't have happened without it. Being offered the City of Manchester Stadium wouldn't have happened without getting 30,000 a week at that level.
We want to be somewhere else but we're not. We can't get there without going up. The players we have now - like Andy Morrison, Terry Cooke and Shaun Goater for MCFC - largely won't be part of any future success, but it'll mark the pinnacle of some of their careers and by god we'll be grateful for their efforts in years to come. So the least we can do if - and I stress IF, we've done nothing yet - we go up is to share their moment with them and applaud them for what they've achieved.

If you don't celebrate winning something, whether it's beating Chester on Saturday or eventually getting promoted back to the Football League, what's the point in actually supporting Rovers?

Funny thing is I was talking to a Man City supporter a few weeks ago and he told me that they look back on their time in the 3rd tier with pride because their attendances were good and the support had stayed loyal !. He also said that although the football is great now he doesn't go so much any more due to lack of atmosphere at games and expense,he had been going since 65.

There is no 'point',its something that you choose to do,nothing to do with having a point, nothing to do with celebration either.

Anneka Rice will stay equidistant between the two grounds and as the the last day ebbs and flows she will move towards whichever ground looks more likely with the trophy. Ahhh, Helicopter Sunday 2004/05...Fantastic memories.Commentator: "The helicopter is changing direction....."
