Obviously, we've all observed passing of people associated (and not associated....Nelson Mandela? WTF?) with Rovers in form of silence and applause.
Just wanna say, never was aware of Mr Hiscox, as far as I know, I never came in contact with him, unfortunately.
But as tributes and memoriam go, that was one of most emotional and dignified, I've encountered. On a level with Mickey Barratt (where tears were unashamedly drawn)
It makes me feel sorrow I never knew him, and so wish I did, as I guess we may gave gad something in common.
Tragic loss, hope some good can come of it, respect to family and friends, and above all a brilliant result for the fella...5-1 and best of the season..
Fitting tribute and never forgotten, UptheGas!

It was a great tribute. Well done to all the Chester fans who also took part.

I'm glad someone has posted about this. I too never knew him or his family and neither do I know the circumstances around his demise other than he died while playing for his local football team. I know I had a lump in my throat as we applauded and then sang Goodnight Irene but what made it even more poignant was when the member of the family came out and applauded us. I have to say what a lovely and moving occasion it was, I hope for the family who were there it was of comfort to them. RIP young man, condolences and sincere sympathies to all your family.

Noticed that Lines went straight over to the family after the final whistle

Well said. For anyone not there, against total silence Nick read a wonderfully worded tribute, with Ben's name lighting up the scoreboards a minutes applause followed which spontaniously turned into a chorus of Irene.

I can't say Ben myself, as I didn't know him personally.
Wish I did.
And his family.
That's lifeblood of being a GasHead.

Very moving, guess it was his Dad who applauded the fans and waved his scarf. Hope the family can take some consolation from a lovely tribute to the lad. Sometimes, actually very often, Gasheads really make you proud!

It was really sad. As (I assume) his father left the pitch, Clarke came and gave him a hug and then the Chester manager. some of the players were looking over at him from the centre circle during the applause, what with the tannoy annocuncement of wishing to dedicate a win/promotion to Ben I think this fired the players up some what
