Who's Joe?
Totally agree, the "no-one will want to manage us" thing is daft. Many, many football professionals would like £50k a year to manage professionally.
If we had the compensation we could attract any manager in non league football. And there are plenty of out of work managers who'd apply.

What happens though if we don't have the compensation?
It seems madness to me we're a point off the top of the table with 5 games to go and fans are planning who'll replace our manager, let's be honest most of us would have been more than happy with finishing 5th this season before it started.

Irony....
I don't think he is going anywhere if we provide him with a new contract.
As I have said before, very few supporters are wanting to get rid of him.
But I am intrigued how the side handles the pressure from now on. Based on your recent threads, Topper, you have more doubts than I about our ability to win key games.

After the last eight games of last season and the first month of this one, most would have been overwhelmed to be where we are now and rightly so. The unbeaten run from mid October was a fine feat.
however, for many the only true redemption for this club and all who serve and support it, is an immediate return to league status.
IMO anything else would be seen as failure by the majority and I think DC feels this too. This is a tremendous pressure for any manager to bear yet alone one so young. For this reason I think he will be gone in the close season if we fail in our ambitious aim, whether pushed, by mutual consent or by desire.
as I have said in another thread, I think this is why the pressure now is as intense as it was a year ago... A different pressure, yes, but equally tense for many involved.

I think those who are putting forward the suggestion that he should be replaced do Darrell a huge disservice, he accepted responsibility for our relegation, he only picked up 1 point from our first three games and then has overseen a huge improvement in our results. Ok the results may not have come with Brazilian style football but it has been effective. How often have successful teams used effective football to win games and I won't bring ridicule on myself by comparing us to teams in the higher eschelons of the league that have used that style of play. Don't get me wrong of course I would love to see a better style of play and more goals but we have the players we have and Darrell seems to be getting the best out of them in this league, you only have to remember how poor Tom Parkes was last season and McChrystal not much better to see how his coaching with others have improved their performances this season. He's not perfect and accept he's not everyone's 'cup of tea' but give the young man a chance and get behind him for at least until the end of the season.... UTG !

I have been impressed with Clarke's passion and most of his signings. A few dodgy loan ones Speiss, Wall, Cunnington and Martin were not successful however he has obviously got the bunch of players showing passion for the shirt. Hope he stays

After reading swissgas' post on Mar 29, 2015 at 7:49pm, in the ''Directors please give us the best chance of Promotion'' thread, you'll see that it's our old friend Joe Jordan that the poster is referring to. The post is well-worth a read because (a) it comes from a respected poster, and (b) it contains quite a bit of information . . . which clearly may (or may not) be accurate, but then again who knows eh?

Ah but he has coached under Harry Redknapp (the only 2 words that make Gary Johnson a possible alternative as a manager) who was also mentioned in the same post. It's all part of the takeover yawn, yawn

I agree entirely. It shocks me how fans who are totally starved of success can want to sack someone who's in with a chance of providing some.

the question is ....has Clarke been head hunted for a job at Eastleigh nearer home and plenty of cash to splash you'd certainly hope not. 2 years ago he left a successful team to be a mere asst mgr at a level only 1 higher... which suggests he has a slightly ruthless career streak in him, and going to Eastleigh (if we stayed in Conf) would seem like a backward step in such a career. I think he could have got the Hartlepool job if he wanted it, but for whatever reason preferred not to.

Reason he did not go to Hartlepool was probably the fact they looked seriously like going out of the Football League ...BUT Cheltenham Town now appear to be in free fall

I want Cheltenham to go down as it would be interesting to see how they do. Hopefully along with Mansfield

been in the Cotswolds for a few days, talking to a guy in pub in Burford [Golden Pheasant] had been to the Chelt/Plymouth game, said they were absolutely diabolical, clueless and wondered how Argyle failed to hit 6+, so looks promising for a drop into oblivion for them

I see from this afternoon's result, that Gary hasn't lost his touch.
