He also drew some praise from the co-commentator for a 40 yard run with the ball as part of a (rare) Gibraltar counter attack.
Jake took the field at Hampden Park after 74 minutes with the score already 5-1 to Scotland. He had been waiting on the touchline, in driving rain, since the 66th minute. But the Gibraltar left back suffered a bizarre injury when Alan Hutton caught his studs in the turf, slipped and landed on the head of the unfortunate defender. It took a little while for the full back to prove he was OK, at which point Jake took up a position in left midfield, marking Alan Hutton.
In Jake's 22 minutes, apart from his run, he was mainly occupied with tracking the overlapping runs of Hutton. He made a few interceptions, but his team mates by this stage were so tired that they were unable to pass the ball to him. Once or twice, Hutton got past Jake; one such run resulted in the sixth goal for Scotland. Steven Fletcher got it and grabbed the first hat-trick for a Scot in an international since Colin Stein in 1969!
Gibraltar had earlier created history by getting their first ever goal in international competition. They actually equalised Scotland's opening goal within a minute.
