Ah, Jeff Hughes. The cause of all our problems according to some. The same people who forgave other players for their misdemeanours because they spoke with a local accent and watched the club as boys. Did someone say on here that local lads get treated more harshly than other players? Utter pish and Hughes proves it. Should we take him now? No idea, dunno what league we'll be in and dunno if he's any good these days. We certainly shouldn't sign him just because he played for ua before, as roughly 70% of all forummers across all teams recommend. Please continue the bitchfest now... If you dont run around like a headless chicken, regardless of the end productivity, fans wont warm to you. Marcus Browning would have had a stand named after him by now on that basis.

I always liked Hughes and think his record suggests he was actually a good signing for us. I know this is somewhat against the party line but ho-hum.
What Hughes definitely wasn't; was pretty. He was an awkward type of player and I think a lot of people were expecting a wide player who we'd paid money for to be a bit more of a traditional 'get them off their seats' type. He wasn't that. Hughes was just bloody difficult to play against because he did unexpected things, read the game very well and could pop up in every part of the pitch. But he wasn't a particularly exciting player or one who played with an obvious up and at them personality and fans always hold stuff against players like that if things start going wrong. A lot of people prefer crap players who look like they care than good ones who seem aloof despite the fact that it's impossible to know what's going on inside someone's head and some people are simply more emotive than others which is what I felt about Hughes.
No way we're getting him back anyway.

file alongside craig stanley CRAP Oh, come on.
Hughes - 346 appearances, 61 goals, almost all at League 1 or better.
Stanley - 417 apperances, 28 goals, split between League 2 and the Conference.
The two are not comparable.
2008–2011 Bristol Rovers 129 (28) hughes . tbf more than decent though i recall him as a bloke that put in a shift when he fancied it 2011–2012 Bristol Rovers 34 (1) stanley - just garbage

Think he was hard done by the manager when with 2 minutes of JPT game left against Yeovil & only 2 subs used the manager decided not to bring on our first choice penalty taker. Apparently because he hadn't tried hard enough the game before. God that manager was a tactical genius

Hughes was like Clarkson, one decent game in 10. Too much to carry and his progress since leaving us isn't much to write home about.

Hi Gasheads
This is my first post so here goes. I see Hughes is at Fleetwood these days but don't know if he is consistently playing for them or if he is injured. Worth a punt or not? Probably wouldn't want to drop divisions to play for us again anyway. I thought he was a decent player when he was with us. Superb first effort. I got belittled by faggotygas on my first post so immediately had to step up my game. He took the retaliation like a man! Keep up the good work. jeff Hughes - he was good but always looked a bit idle. He did have some skill though.

Think he scored a hatrick away to Dagenham didn't he ? A real thoughtful, intelligent player who worked extremely hard but without running around like the proverbial headless chicken.

Hughes was a mediocre player for Rovers. Another overpaid 'big time charlie' just like Dominic Blizzard and Darryl Duffy. He wouldn't sign for us at first because if he stayed at Palace until then end of his contract he'd get a 'loyalty bonus' despite making only 10 first team appearances and spending most of his time there in the reserves!
