"Before he was involved they'd been to a FA Cup final and played in the Champions League... Also worth noting he puts very little into the club bar rent on training facilities at SGS College. The reason Academy are part of Bristol Sport is the FA insisted on WSL clubs having links with men's clubs to retain their license. A truly bonkers decision as a strong WSL is about having strong independent clubs as well as those linked with male clubs. The clubs work together with their community project sharing coaches, Academy use Ashton Gate for Champions League games and City train and pay rent at SGS but that's as far as the relationship goes. Academy will have either the smallest or second smallest budget in the top flight next season not employing one professional, if Lansdowne has put in money I don't think we'd have seen three players leaving the club to take up professional contracts." Couldn't be bothered to post it all again but you get the gist. Have you got a Bristol sport scarf? Alas no.

Toby's student days were before World War Two. All of this was fields. Back in 1997 (or should that be 1927?!?) I took my Geordie and 'uddersfield Uni mates to see a pulsating 4-4 draw with Oldham. We arrived late and were already 2 nil down if I recall. I guess I was still getting used to the big city lights and walking through streets that were very similar to Coronation Street was a big eye opener for me.

Must have been 1927 if you owned a Geordie at Uni.

April 17th depending on how fixtures fall a couple of us are off to Lille for a couple of days before the Dover game. Either Lille or Valenciennes on the Friday night. It now looks like Valenciennes - Arles-Avignon before the Dover game is nailed on, looks a good ground and apparently a cracking pub next door.

Still needs one more side done.

Went to Newbury on Tuesday night and on Saturday I'll be going to Halifax. Hopefully will get another new ground in on Tuesday so I can tick off Mainz 05 as my 200th.
The Newbury game was absolutely bonkers, Hellenic Floodlit Cup semi vs North Leigh United (North Leigh reserves basically and Matty Taylor's first club). The game ended 1-0 to North Leigh however Newbury had 3 players and their manager sent off and North Leigh had 1. Nice tidy little ground with one large stand and hard standing areas round the rest of the ground. Pleasent bar too.

Won't be getting my 200th ground in Germany, that'll have to wait for France. Off to Welton vs Barnstaple tomorrow, huge game in the Western Division One.

You're going to beat me to it, I just had a quick count up and I'm only on 191 with Dover to come. Just out of interest, what does a ground have to have for you to make it count? Is it the level of football (would you count Glos County League for example?)

Superb weekend, got to meet Nobby as well which was nice!
Offenbach 0 - 0 Elversberg on the Friday night. First vs Second, a very cagey affair but an interesting game. Can't remember all that much past the second half, went to a bar after with plenty of Offenbach supporters and was fed booze for being British and at the game. In turn I taught them "We are top the league". Was meant to get the last train back to Frankfurt, ended up getting a taxi three hours later.
VfB Stuttgart U19's 1 - 2 on Saturday morning after a night on the lash was a struggle. Nearly two hours on the train and a hour walk to the ground didn't massively help either. Typical youth game though, lots of fancy passing and energy but without the steel of a mens game. Entertaining enough though.
VfB Stuttgart 3 - 1 Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday afternoon was a huge game for the hosts stuggling at the foot of the table. 46,000 turned up to roar on their teams (with a big following from Frankfurt). The atmosphere betweem the two sets of supporters before hand was great so I decided to have some more beer. Eintracht took the lead, however two goals in 4 minutes by Stuttgart saw them take the lead and in the last ten minutes a third sealed the points much to the joy of the home support. I then got the train back to Frankfurt to meet my friend where we got slightly drunk until the early hours on more beer and pfeffi.
TSG Hoffenheim 1 - 1 USV Jena on the Sunday morning was another struggle. A 6am start after another heavy night, followed by another couple of hours of trains and waiting in trainstations. However we got to the ground, and football and wursts started the recovery process. This one was in the Frauen Bundesliga and was a great advert for the womens game. End to end football with lots of good skills on show. We had to shoot off ten minutes early to get the train to...
Mainz 05 1 - 1 Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon was probably my favourite game. Cracking atmosphere on a big terrace and we were back on the beers again. Mainz deservedly took the lead and had a goal disallowed. Kevin De Bruyne however was pulling the strings for the visitors and hit the post twice. Wolfsburg got their equaliser and hung on despite late Mainz pressure.
After the game I headed back to Frankfurt, slightly tipsy and met another pal (Wales internation Jess Fishlock on loan at Frankfurt from Seattle) to watch El Classico. Then I had my first reasonably early night.
Sunday involved a couple of little train trips to check out Eintracht & FSV's grounds in Frankfurt and then meeting Jess for another couple of cups of tea.
Absolutely stonking weekend although I'm still feeling tired. Can't wait to do another soon, thinking of Poland.
As for Rex's question, I haven't started County Leagues yet (bar the Essex Senior League which, is same level as the Western League). That's not to say I won't go that far down but at the moment I have plenty to be getting on with!
Last night popped to Larkhall - Yeovil in the Somerset Cup. Ended 1-1 AET and Yeovil undeservedly won on penalties. Next up Macclesfield!
