Last November, when planning the above fixture, there was a misunderstanding between Woking and Bristol Rovers and, consequently, the Club decided to plan ahead for this fixture, working closely together with the police and the Club’s Safety Officer. The Club wish to make it clear that Bristol Rovers did not refuse its request to sell tickets. The advice and intelligence reports were to expect approximately 1600 to 1700 Bristol Rovers fans to attend the game and the Club’s planning was based on these figures. Due to the configuration of Kingfield Stadium, the maximum number of away fans the Club can accommodate is 1900, which is written into the Club’s safety certificate. When the number of away fans reached 1,869, the Club’s Safety Officer and police took the decision that the gates were to be closed due to a concern about crowd safety on the away fans' terrace. Regrettably, a number of Bristol Rovers supporters were unable to gain entry to the game. Other parts of the ground were not filled to capacity, but the Club’s safety certificate forbids the mixing of home and away supporters when the game is designated to be a segregated game and, reluctantly, therefore, the Club could not allow the excess fans to enter the ground under any circumstances. The Club wish to apologise to the Bristol Rovers fans who were unable to see the game, but wish to stress that it must also abide by its safety certificate. taken from www.wokingfc.co.uk/news/article/4862/club-statement-woking-v-bristol-rovers/

I don't think Woking were either really. Eh ?! ground certification regulations, as stated, over 1900 allowed in and then it's fine time,££ and possible repurcussions, a sad and frustrating day out for those who could not get in,

I would imagine all Rovers remaining away fixtures will now be all ticket..More admin work for Rovers who have fewer staff to sale tickets and get nothing from the opponents for doing this

It's all John Ward's fault.

An estimate of 1600-1700 Rovers fans making the trip is a fairly precise figure. How would they have even come up with that figure?
Wycombe Wanderers' safety officer got a new job?

Until last week I'd have thought 1600 - 1700 was about right, possibly even a bit on the high side. But then we got Easter in, had a couple of weeks without a game and are riding high in the league (OK the non-League). Some posters were being laughed at for suggesting we would take 2000 or more even last week. It's a shame the segregation regulations are so tight, but that's not the fault of Woking.

It seems crazy that there were 2000 spaces in the ground and around 200-300 Rovers locked out. There were enough police there to be able to sort something out I'd have thought, though I read somewhere that they were only paid to be outside the stadium and not inside?? The amount of police in the town was ridiculous. There was no trouble at all, but that didn't stop them getting their cameras out filming people who were simply having a drink. There were 3 riot vans outside our pub. Why? It seems to me the police are happy to wind people up when there's no hint of trouble, but when they are actually required to do something they say it's not their responsibility. They've got powers when they want to (stopping a coach load of Rovers en route to Swansea 2003, holding people outside Hillsbrough for 2 and a half hours 2010, batonning people at Brum 2014). They seemed powerless on Saturday though when it didn't suit them to actually have to do something to benefit people who had spent time and money travelling to Surrey.

I understand people's frustration about our fans being locked out but the MAXIMUM number of away fans they were allowed to let in was 1,900. It matters not how many we were speculating would turn up or the circumstances. All grounds are strictly licensed as to their maximum capacity and that includes the number of away fans they are legally allowed to let in, for Woking their safety certificate says that is 1,900. They wouldn't have been allowed to sell more than 1,900 even if it had been all ticket.

I'm sure after that statement that those who came on here categorically blaming Rovers will be back to admit they were wrong. Well I know at least one of them won't.....

I dont think Woking had any other choice, if there had been 'trouble' between both sets of fans in the home area's they would have been answering questions from a lot higher up.
I would have thought a row of stewards seperating home and away fans in a section of the home end would have sufficed, but I believe the police told them it was not an option anyway.
Yes it's disappointment for those that travelled to see parts of the match through bars, but not sure what else could have been done from either side other than Rovers requesting all ticket and restricting fans even further?

Yrs they did have a choice ... They should of made it all ticket. They admit themselves that they were predicting 1,700 gas fans . They had 1,900 places. So.... If they're a little over 10% wrong with their guess and more fans turned up ( as they did !) they therefore knew they'd have to lock them out .

To be fair I didn't even expect that may gas to travel there, even Luton didn't take that many.
tbh I don't know how the all ticket thing works, do both teams have to agree or can the home team dictate as the hosts?
Either way nothing can be done about it now, only losers are the fans as always.

Who you calling a loser. I'll have you know my life has been a never ending tale of unbridled success. Ever since I got a podium finish(2nd place) first year boys sack race - Stoke Lodge Primary School 1973. I would have won it as well if Bloody Keith Manning had not put his feet in the corners and ran. It's a fkin sack race.......jumping only. Loser......Pfffft.
