One of the side effects of this season, where, hopefully, we have reached the nadir of our fortunes, is that I find myself increasingly ambivalent toward Bristol City. I still hope they lose every game of course, and will take great amusement in any future mishaps they may have, but I just don't loath them in the same way. Maybe it's because I feel that whatever may happen from now on, it won't be as bad as a possible 3 division gap and us being a non league side (it can't get worse can it?). In the past I have worried about City's results more than ours on occasion, looking out for their relegation/promotion rivals scores, hoping and praying that they fail, and being thoroughly pissed off at any success they may have. Yet here we are, them flying in League One, with a Wembley appearance on the horizon and a home tie against a Premier League team in the cup -I used to be ridiculously grumpy when they got good FA Cup draws in the past- yet now, I couldn't really give two hoots about it.
I really have enjoyed this season, us doing well, with a team of players who actually look like they give a f**k, great away days, and all the while not stressing out about how our local rivals are doing but still having a little smile to myself when things don't quite go right for them.
So there you go, it's out there, I don't hate them any more.

Nice one. I've been largely ignoring them for years, it makes for a much healthier mindset

My dad grew up in the 40s and 50s around Horfield and Westbury Park. He told me once that it came as a genuine surprise to him as a teenager to discover there was another team in Bristol as all anyone ever spoke about was Bradford, Biggs, Bamford etc
I've since decided this is the correct way of approaching it

All of this is just adding fuel to the fire of City fans 'Mind the Gap' jibe. Sticking one's head in the sand about the present ignominious situation won't make it go away you know!

I think you may have missed the point- I no longer care about the gap. I care that Rovers do well, but I won't be measuring any success or failures against what is achieved(or not achieved) in that dark place over the river

I used to hate them with a passion. I considered all of their fans to be brainless freeloading morons living a life of thuggery in their South Bristol council houses. I have refused to hire a van from HireRite , buy anything from Park Furnishers, or drink Blackthorn cider.
As I have got older and got to know more s**theads who are decent people I have come to respect them for following their local team, the people who I save my vitriol for now are the thousands of spineless feckless glory hunters who support clubs at the other end or side of the country for no other reason than glamour or glory. These people who often sneer and take the piss out of their local clubs and their supporters are the true enemy of clubs like ours. If people in the Bristol area had the local pride and bollox to support their local clubs in the same way as they do in the North East or Northern towns like Burnley we would have a damn site better chance of having top flight football and a top notch stadium to watch it in.

I'm not saying this out of spite now because even a lot of city fans on otib agree with me but that thread they still have running hasn't even left the first page. 11,000 replies last time i looked. They talk about us every day and near enough every hour on there and even some city fans havecommented on there saying it's boring now. I just think its a bit of a cringe to be honest.

My thoughts exactly these days, anyone who supports there local team is a footie fan the same as me. Ok so I love it when City fail, and yes plenty of them are well, brainless but like you the guys who I have no affiliation with are the armchair glory hunters!
