Would we have gone and spent serious money on Jermaine Easter if our situation was desperate? We also paid a substantial sum to Kidderminster for a good young prospect in Nathan Blissett a couple of months ago
I don’t want other players and clubs getting the wrong impression when we go in to the transfer market. We won’t be entertaining players who start asking for an extra £500 per week because they think we are pushing the boat out.

Did we spend "serious" money on Jermaine Easter? DC said in an Evening Post interview that we didn't.

I don't know either. It depends what each of them defines "serious" as.

One is bullish Nick Higgs, the other quote is DC Not sure what you are trying to achieve through this post - you can spin Higgs words as much want - the bottom line is we have brought a player in that really we shouldn't have anychance of getting and probably wouldn't if a chigger placed club nearer Cardiff wanted him. I believe Easter has judged the potential in terms of what we currently have dressing room wise and where placed in the league - the fan base - possible future ground aspirations if still on or easter is still here then alongside his long term friendship with DC who he obviously trusts. I think we have got the best player we could possibly of got right now - he's s Welsh international that's achieved 2 championship promotions and has come from Millwall. He interviews well - he isn't phased by the respondibility to score goals to fire us to promotion. Even if his goal scoring rate isn't fantastic I'm sure his energy awareness and prowess is going to be too much for the conference. I don't think Higgs is the best of public speakers but the reality is he has backed his manager to get Easter and bought a young up and coming raw striker I think whilst no where near the finished article is one who will only learn from Easter and possibly go on to better things earning rovers good money as a result of having that mentoring. I don't believe Easter has been told to lie about his transfer and wage to pacify the dressing room and fans I think at this stage of his career he knows what he wants and happy to accept what is the best all round package for him and his family right now. Which thank God is Bristol Rovers.

I think it is potentially a great signing as i said before We have our manager trying to say, yeah i brought player in and just because he is a champ player doesnt mean we are paying over and above Then we have our chairman, who quite often asked a question gets defensive and says we have spent good money to bring in Easter. Its good that we have backed the manager, but do we need the bullish comments and potentially hindering the manager as he himself says about players suddenly wanting more.

I guess NH is talking to the fans, and DC is talking to the team (and potential recruits).

NH was answering a reporters question about the club's finances, is answer was probably what one of use would say, in that finances can't be that bad if we can bring in Blisset & Easter, compared to the like of Kiddy who are being forced to offload their best players?
We all know Easter's only here because he wanted to move back to Cardiff, unless NH/DC/JE are all talking BS and we've matched his Millwall contract!!!
Starting threads like this does give evidence to posters who suggest there is THG on this forum.

No hidden agenda from me, but it does seem to be symptomatic of the mixed mesagaes that come from the club on many subjects. Have we spent serious money or signed a player that fits in our wage structure. I think that is a bit of disparity between the two lots of words used NH was the one bemoaning the fact players and agents thought we were an easy touch for good wages. To me it comes across as his defensive nature again when asked almost any question. Where is Chris Jelf to talk about this sort of thing. I thought he was supposed to be responsible for the playing side of things. Have we ever heard a peep from him outside of him taking charge at the q and a? No hidden agenda from me. I speak my mind as i find. Great we have backed the manager and a potential great signing i say again, i just wish the message would be more coherent.

You have manager saying one thing and Chairman saying another - that's worth commenting on/ I think it probably says more about their different roles than anything else and about passing responsibility. Clarke wants to leverage more money so is saying that we got a bargain, whereas Higgs wants to give the impression that the board have made an investment with the subtext (you assume) that it's the manager's job to ensure that investment pays off. I think this tensions has run through clubs since the dawn of time. In this case though I think they both might have a point; I can't imagine Easter comes at bottom dollar and you'd be surprised if he wasn't our highest paid player (although you'd like to think we loaded the contact with incentives rather than baseline wages). On the other hand getting a guy to drop down 3 divisions suggests we probably have gotten ourselves something of a bargain.
