See what happens when forums become really messy, (from the BBC):
Blackpool owner Owen Oyston and chairman Karl Oyston have begun legal action against a fan who posted about them on an internet forum.
It is claimed the pair are attempting to sue the fan for £150,000 over a number of serious allegations, which they say to be untrue...
...It is reported that the pair are unhappy with a series of posts about them, as well as accusations about the club...

For the record then, Nick Higgs used to present Top of the Pops in the 70s, Toni Watola is in the mafia, and Geoff Dunford ate my hamster.

Whilst I'm not impressed with Karl Oyston, it is a reminder that care needs to be taken in what is said about individuals. So, for example, stating NH is incompetent would be just about OK - it's a matter of opinion, but saying (not that anyone has or is) that he has taken money out of the club for his own purposes is libellous unless true. Ultimately, comments of that sort, often aimed at least season's players and board, were the reason the OF got shut down.
There is a fine line between criticism and taking it too far and I guess the Blackpool fan has gone too far.

What a funny old game this is. One convicted rapist can't get a kick of a football due to fan pressure and another convicted rapist sues one of his own clubs fans.
Any one for tennis?

No, that was the excuse used to close the forum, there was no reason that the one thread in particularly wasn't deleted has soon as it appeared. Although surely to prove the comments were liable then the player would have to show they weren't actually true?

Although surely to prove the comments were liable then the player would have to show they weren't actually true? It wasn't just about one player though. I doubt the OF would have closed if people had just expressed their anger and frustration about the relegation. Anyway, all it meant was that we followed the lead of that "super-professional" South Bristol club in not having an official forum. It makes sense to me because then the club cannot be blamed or sued for any libellous comments and it's clearly down to the forum owners.

Oyston is correct though, a simple allegation on a forum is essentially published to the world. 20 years ago it would be mere gossip and at worst a couple words graffitied on a bridge over Muller Road.
Everyone needs to get with the modern day world. A small allegation or story now is the worlds publication so untruthed must be dealt accordingly.

Absolutely and I feel some of us came close to the mark in the past which GD might have considered talking forward as he was always threatening. I see Oldham have pulled out of signing Ched Evans today - he is someone who I can see enjoying trying to make money through any keyboard Warriors that overstep the mark to improve his current financial opportunities.

But so long as we stick to calling him a convicted rapist we'll be fine

interesting rant by the posh owner on twitter today about his teams performance yesterday Yeah, he sounds like a proper cock. And if he's a bit too sensitive to what I just said, he can feel free to let me know anytime.
