I'm not sure he can be judged too harshly given the resources at his disposal.  However, I think that his innovative thinking behind the original success has now been aped by everyone so it's no longer the gold dust it once was.  He did a decent job in difficult circumstances - Gloucestershire could have become Leicestershire, they have at least competed in games even if they lacked the talent and resources to win regularly.

There is a good case that a young team will respond to a young coach though.  Let's see who they go with - it'll be a big statement on the level of their ambition.
