Half way through the season now and just an observation from travelling to a few (but not all) away matches.
A big positive is our reception from hosts. Sure, you're gonna get the odd occasion, but generally most of the venues have been welcoming and it's helped induce a party-like atmosphere. Things are more relaxed and laid back.
The stewarding yesterday was sensible, in the league someone would've been ejected or worse for being drunk. In the league, with news of 650 Bristolians converging on a small area, it wouldn't have been unusual for us to be greeted with police, dogs, cs spray, the odd baton, being treated like cattle and being kept in after match.
I hope we get out this league the same as everyone else, but I won't forget that the type of away days like yesterday is the way it should be. Fun and family friendly.

Agree with this....I was sat next to a couple of locals in the Rovers section who watch Welling when they are not watching Charlton. They seemed impressed with the gas support. The only negative I would add was the odd chant of F..k Off Welling which I felt was unnecessary... Maybe that's just me though..

Totally agree, the away day experience and atmosphere is far better than our home fixtures. No pretentious *****, I have noticed several gas going in with the home supporters, without colours on, which I feel is great way forward, old school, long may that continue, the conference football may be at best "average" but this is more that made up for by the conference hospitality. IMO.

I get to listen to more of the games on the radio ? so I'm not too bothered about conference footie. However, I am hoping we'll get back in the league soon.

Particularly daft considering they had fewer home supporters than they usually attract, according to whoever was commentating yesterday.

I think they average around 850-900, so it does seem they might have had fewer than usual of their own fans - which seems odd to me

Fun and family friendly apart from some of our lot chanting 'f**k off welling, f**k off welling' repeatedly. Maybe the brain cell was lonely.

Yes, they'd probably heard how family friendly and fun we are following the disgraceful behaviour of some of our fans at Braintree and decided they could do without that type of 'family friendly fun' ! I think that's an insult to brain cells suggesting those of our fans doing the chanting have any

I think part of it is that some of these places feel a lot more like a club than a business
I spend Sunday mornings at rugby clubs, watching my son's team, and they have a welcoming feeling and where everyone feels like a participant. That is very different from big league professional football - if you go to a Premier League game you're often buying a ticket to see a performance at a global business
Rovers are probably caught between the two I think - which is why some fans have got so upset about feeling ignored by the Board etc etc

I'm also enjoying away games more this season.
It's down to a combination of factors
- a better attitude from the players with a greater desire to win - a friendlier reception from the home fans (less ritualistic hostility than at football league level) - new venues, new places to go ... it's bound to be more interesting going to a place for the first time
... and yes, I also want to be promoted back to football league level!!
