As former Rovers goalkeeper Steve Phillips is back in the Bath area and playing for Shepton Mallet following his retirement from full time football at Crewe Alexandra would it be sensible to sign him as temporary cover as Mildenhall will be out a short while ?
I always liked Phillips and his experience would be valuable in the Conference.

Hmmm - dealing with crosses was not a strong point for him. Think the physical presence of some of the Conference centre forwards would create problems for him. Nice guy but I'd be surprised if DC brought him back.

{copied from match review thread}
I'm hoping DC is setting his sights high on finding a temporary replacement for Steve Mildenhall. With all due respect to Steve Phillips, DC should pull out all the stops to get a top-drawer keeper at his current peak. There must be quite a few 3rd-choice Premier League or Championship goalkeepers who are short of competitive activity.
Wrexham, for example, have gone down this road:
BBC Sport, Monday: "Wrexham goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann says he is fit for their home Conference Premier game against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, 2 December. Bachmann had been expected to be out for at least three months with a torn medial collateral ligament in his knee. The Austrian Under-21 international, on loan from Stoke City, collided with the frame of the goal during the 2-1 defeat at Torquay in October".
And BBC Sport, 20th November: "Wrexham have signed goalkeeper Jonathan Flatt on a month's loan from Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers to cover for injuries. Fellow goalkeepers Andy Coughlin and Dan Bachmann are out with hand and knee injuries respectively".
If we have learnt anything from last season, it's that you need to act swiftly and resourcefully to respond to setbacks (compare inaction after Gow injured at S****horpe).

Lets sign the bear keeper available My goodness that sounds interesting - he would certainly command his box! To be honest if we only need cover for 1 game we could probably do worse than asking Phillips. He's always been very competitive and I'm sure on a one off basis he'd be well up for it. Anything longer than that though and I think a youngster on loan is the way forward.

We should be able to get emergency keeper, but really will need 2 for a month,so get a half descent one and ask Steve to cover as a reserve for a month.all I know is if Steve would have been on the bench last night we'd have won.

It's an assumption but I'm pretty sure we would have, we made sure we kept the ball in the middle of the park, packed out the midfield and played a high line. I think with a sub keeper we'd have won.

Adam Smith - Leicester City - The Wealth of Nations is certainly an interesting read but what has 19th Century pin production got to do with Rovers???

Maybe if there wasn't such a delay, with Mildenhall trying to play on, they wouldn't have had a man sent off?
Whilst quite a few teams can pull off results with ten men, not many teams will play almost an hour without a recognised GK in goal and get away with it I'm grateful of that!

First Profile on that page. We have had a decent link with Leicester in the past, a keeper aged 20-23 from a championship/premiership club the most likely option.

Whilst I'm not disagreeing with anything that you have posted Westcountry, remember that we were a Football League team when we loaned Parkes and Bolger from them. We're now in the Conference, so not such an attractive place for LCFC to send their up-and-comers. But then again you never know, do you?

Gotcha - I just assumed that, as a 291 year old Scotsman, McGhee had signed him and he was still on the books. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Smith

We probably lost that advantage, protecting the keeper, just as well really, could have been worse. Mistake in hindsight, but I don't understand if you can only 3 subs why can't you have 1000 on the bench what difference does it make apart from helping small teams.

Fair enough Bemmy. I think the issue is we don't have a keeper to go on the bench, rather than no room on it for one.

Bring back Fraser Forster! The Saints owe us a favour after the success of Lambert.
