What a great article, I am waiting for the day when one of the big clubs lose their benefactor and see what happens. Could end up in the fourth tier faster than City did in the 1980's. (If that's possible)

(If that's possible) Funny thing is if it was someone like Man City they might get their true supporters back, the ones that used to pack out grounds in the old Division 2 when they sank that low...

Good write up, it got my blood boiling over.
I think it's english tradition that young players get brought into the senior squad as the fans want young local lads playing.
The loan system needs an overhaul, at the moment it seems the best players are loaned out to those who have the better contacts/relationships. There should be a type of NFL draft which splits the loan players evenly through the leagues.

I wish that it was becoming more fashionable to support your local team but sadly the fans who actively support their local teams are far outweighed by the legions of glory hunting parasites who are a cancer to clubs like ours and limit what it's possible to achieve. I don't know if in this media driven world it can ever change but we can try and change the atmosphere a bit by not accepting the spineless weaklings who support the big clubs for no other reason than glamour and glory as football fans. Instead of feeling superior to fans of clubs that never win anything these people really should be made to feel like the vermin of the game that they are, if this became mainstream thinking it might then become fashionable to support your local club again.

Until the big money stops being pumped into the Premier League teams we are always going to be considered 2nd class and less glamourous and there doesn't appear to be any sign of the money drying up.

Great piece of writing Nick - many of us have felt like for years!
If you want to get England going in the right direction get the Premiers League to stop the ever decreasing percentage of home grown players appearing the P L teams - I think we are now down to about 23% representation of British players? Introduce a higher number of home grown players that MUST appear in every starting 11 team sheet
And by the way has Mr Dyke returned his £20k watch?
When he was appointed I thought he would be good for the game how wrong I have been
Finally how on earth did they come to choose such poor people to be on the 'commission' in the first place? Terrible selection for the most part

It's not the premier league per se though Bridgeman. Iif clubs like Swansea and Burnley can get there so can we, but those two clubs and most of the other Prem league clubs and the people who support them aren't the problem. I don't see hordes of people poncing around Bristol with their chests out wearing Swansea or Burnley shirts and rushing off to the pub to watch them rather than their local teams.

I don't disagree with you but would Swansea and Burnley be where they are without the money from Sky or BT Sport ? Swansea because of the parochial nature of how Welsh fans support their teams aren't likely to attract supporters from Cardiff, Newport or North Wales or even Bristol for that matter.
