Absolutely totally outclassed, no wonder we don't play them regularly anymore. No disrepect to the players or teams involved but they were bringing on substitutes from Sheffield Wednesday we were bringing on substitutes from Liverpool and Everton, says it all really. Really good performance from England, never allowed the Scots anytime on the ball and played at a faster pace throughout the game.

I watched the game yesterday evening, and found it entertaining . . . particularly since England won, and not only won but beat Scotland in Glasgow. To be honest Scotland were a big disappointment to me, how far they seem to have fallen in the last decade or two. The standard of their passing of the ball was generally poor, as was their penetration. But they did score a good goal though, thanks mainly to Raheem Sterling. A big surprise to me was the number of empty seats in the ground, was it apathy or seats not sold by ticket agencies I wonder? I believe that I heard the official attendance was 49,000-odd, which to me seemed on the low side. But the big plus of the evening to me, was the form of Jack Wilshere. Now I've never been a fan of his, I could never see what all of the fuss was about. But last night I thought that he played very well, particularly his first-half performance. Perhaps he's beginning to mature, eh?

Now I've never been a fan of his, I could never see what all of the fuss was about. But last night I thought that he played very well, particularly his first-half performance. Perhaps he's beginning to mature, eh? I think the problem was that they were charging £60 entry for a friendly 4 days after the game against Ireland which was their biggest qualification match for years. The England game just wasn't as hot a ticket in comparison. Actually if anything Scotland are on the up having spent most of the last decade beyond awful. Say what you like about the cynical expansion of the European Championships (largely done to make sure there's no chance of big TV market missing out on qualification like England did in 2008) but it has given mid-small level nations something to play for again. That Scotland - Ireland game had a lot more atmosphere and competitive spirit than I think it would have done a few years ago because there was so much on the line. Wasn't a great match because they're not particularly good but it was more fun to watch than England-Slovenia in the most part because it was so competitive. I also think it took a lot out of the Scots side ahead of last night's game. It looks like Ireland and Scotland are in shootout for the playoff spot in what looks like the most interesting of all the qualifying groups. You'd probably back Ireland because the return fixture is in Dublin. Northern Ireland and Wales are both even better placed in their qualification groups. Having spent years in the doldrums this tournament is having the effect of galvanising effect on these countries - Wales have been actively planning for this over the last couple of qualifying campaigns; they knew this was their big chance.
