we've read quite a bit about this. I do understand the one about league players not wanting to drop to the conference if they can help it, and I understand that every club is looking for a 20+ goal striker, but......
they say house prices are part of it, though I'm not really sure - they are lower than in the South-East, and do young footballers all want to buy a house? they say that its a long way for a lot of people - well it seems to me that its not that far from the centre of England, or the centre of Wales they say its because of the club - but I can't think that players would prefer our conference rivals they say its because of financial constraints - but we've got much better resources than most of our conference rivals they say its because of our board - but with a few exceptions I very much doubt that the players think like that
I'm no knowledge of these matters. Can someone enlighten me?

Strange but our tickets are as much if not more than our rivals and our gates are miles ahead of everyone in the conference yet we can't afford to compete on wages, so where does all the money go?? Seriously badly managed maybe?? Wasn't that all supposed to be getting sorted out with the full "top to bottom" review that was promised? I can't really afford to watch anymore because of the cost of living/lack of pay rise, so if I'm going to fork out for a match it would be nice to see us score goals. DC might moan about fan negativity but I'm sure he's getting paid a tidy wedge and isn't forking out his hard earned to watch our promotion hopes soon slip away from us.

From the Dover Forum (Dover has a minuscule budget in comparison) Dover win six out of six at Crabble with no goals conceded, well pleased. Considering the relative quality of Rovers midfield and the passes they provide your strikers are generally s***e. Chris Brunt might come good, hasn't played much Jamie White is probably bang average for the league Taylor is impotent at best Cunnington is like a fan playing for the team Harrison looked like he might do ok with good coaching. I don't understand why Rovers cant get a decent striker in, Dover got Ricky Miller in on loan and he scored 7 in 7 for us went back to Luton (and scored at the weekend for them as well) I can only think that Kinnears contacts are better than Clarkes, a club of Bristol Rovers stature should be getting a league one reserve striker in on loan. Rovers will finish in the play offs at the least so more drama to come.

A big factor is that it is the wrong time of the year. The transfer window is shut, free transfers (best of) snapped up, loan players unwilling to move from parent clubs in November (would you move now or January?).
There is no point in bringing someone in who isn't going to improve us either.
We may just have to hold on till January. We don't want to do that of course, but that's football.
In the meantime we could do with one of our current players to step up to the mark. Yes we have already given them time, but imagine if we never persisted with the likes of Roberts, Lambert et al.

But you have to say that it is accurate. Here we are thrashing about in the Conference, with teams from the bottom half pinching points off of us, and making ourselves look more and more foolish on the home front every day.

overall, I'm thinking its a bit more like..........
proven players at this level have choices, as do those who look like hot prospects. There isn't a huge amount of difference in wages or prospects, so that the decisions often come down to things that might seem quite small to others - distance from family and friends, whether they know anyone in Bristol/at Rovers etc
and where there family or agent is pushing them
