Hope we lose first round. Why? Weren't most people crying not for a reserve league so our fringe players can get some game time? And isn't there prize money?

FA Trophy, like the FA Cup, takes precedence over league fixtures so it's weekend fixtures all the way
FA Vase is for much smaller clubs than us, Western League and equivalent
Fwiw I hope we do well in it

Hope we lose first round. Why? Weren't most people crying not for a reserve league so our fringe players can get some game time? And isn't there prize money? There's less opportunity for windfalls now both the transfer market is surpressed and the rules permitting higher league clubs to poach talented youth products are weighted against Bristol Rovers. If we did get to the final of the FA Trophy/Vase/Gauntlet then the club could make a healthy six figure sum to be used suitably - perhaps in reducing ticket prices. Clubs should be looking at capital and how it can both reduce debt (especially where the yield is no longer preferential assuming the tap from some directors is no longer running) but also how it can continue to add to the supporters experience. I for one would support pushing to go to the final to earn say £200,000 if that resulted in ticket prices reducing by £2 for Juveniles.

That's a lot of games potentially. But I don't understand people who want us to chuck our hand in. It's not as though we have so much success in our past that we can afford to poo-poo a tournament that may get us to Wembley and a little bit of local and national exposure. Of course there's no guarantee of success but we must fancy our chances of a deep run surely and I can't see how that would be a bad thing. Blimey we've had precious little positive to look forward too so why look a gift horse in the mouth? Also, I don't much like the idea of having successive Saturdays in the middle of the season with no games which is pretty much guaranteed with an early exit here.

Gosport's run to Wembley last year: Dorchester Concord Rangers Nuneaton Town Hungerford Town North Ferriby United Havant & Waterlooville
They had to play one more round than we would - epic run for them but not very taxing for us!
It's a trip to Wembley, a silver bauble, money and exposure. We're not so success laden that we can afford to ignore that

The title and content of the first post on this thread is an embarrassment. It's bad enough being non league and now we have some of our own fans who think we've fallen so far that we are eligible to play in the FA Vase.
As if the 82ers on Otib don't already have enough to laugh about!

I don't want the 'exposure' being in the Trophy brings!

My view is an FA Trophy run means playing two games a week which means more injuries, more fixture backlogs, players playing league games against teams who have had more rest than us. That compromises our main goal of promotion so I would be quite happy to see us exit this cup early.

At the same time, does cup failure and league success go hand in hand?! Look at Exeter last night, what will that result do for their confidence?
Personally, I maintain the attitude that a win is a win. Do the best you can in all competitions, because it will give you confidence. Losing to Concord Rangers in the first round will hardly do wonders for the team.
Unless a ridiculous FA Cup run takes place (i.e. past the 3rd/4th Round), this team would play less games than the 06/07 squad did, even if they reach the play-off and FA Trophy finals.
EDIT: For the record, I'm more bothered about the FA Cup than FA Trophy, but I want us to do the best we can in all competitions.
