Totally agree with McCrystal starting, does everything equally as well as Trotman and is a real leader with his experience and never stops talking, of course though to those that don't want to see he will never get anything positite said on this forum ! This leads me onto Matty Taylor, yes a lack of goals so far but can't see why people don't realise what he brings to the team, fantastic movement and awareness, great vision to spot a short or long defence splitting pass, movement off the ball is top class along with a fantastic work rate, luckily D.C realises this, Matty obviously needs goals from open play but his record at this level suggests he will weigh in with 10 + goals, It was only the beginning of last season that Cardiff City were showing serious interest after a pre season game when he scored twice against them, this was official interest not forum gossip, look, i am not the chairman of Matty's fan club but having coached at FGR for the last 6 seasons know what Matty has to offer, by the way despite my connection at FGR I am a Gashead of 40 years and a season ticket holder.

I assume you didn't go to yesterday's game as Taylor showed none of those attributes, why subbed off Harrison instead of Taylor was beyond belief.
With Cunnington off soon you do have to wonder what our strike force will be like come December.
I see Brunt only played 2 mind yesterday so I doubt York will be extending his loan period.

Parkes and McChrystal as a centre-half pairing doesn't work because they both completely left-footed. Parkes is shifted to the right side of the two and his game suffers as a result. Also, we become vulnerable to the high ball without Trotman.

Trotman's effective but every ball headed/hoofed up field comes straight back at the defence, it was no coincidence we had our best 15 min spell yesterday when he went off. If we went to play football from the back Trotman & Parkes aren't the answer, but McChrystal & Parkes can't defend as a pair. Although I can see Trotman being out for a month unless he makes a remarkable recovery, do we need a CB more than a striker now on loan?

If Leadbitter was fit, Lockyer would go to Centrehalf for me. Still think that is Toms best position anyway

Not a pretty game but we're not competing in a beauty pageant so all that matters is the end result. We battled well in difficult circumstances (no Mildy, our best defender going off injured, still missing Sinclair, Monkhouse's red card) and restricted Telford to near enough nothing. They looked a poor side to me but you don't go to Woking and win 3-1 unless you have some quality. We're winning games and some people still find something to criticise, which I find hard to fathom. DC and the lads are in a lose-lose situation with some. As far as I'm concerned we're in the play-offs without really hitting top form - can't argue with that. Because we're playing utter sh1te. This division is in three tiers - one third total rubbish, one third conference standard and one third league two mid standard - we struggle against all three so what hope do we have of going up and if we do what hope do we have of staying there?

I think we heard this a lot about Chris Beardsley last season - worked out well for us. Why 10 + goals? His career best is 10 isn't it?

I said it was the worst game I've seen jot the worst performance I've still got a stiff neck from watching the ball in the sky and my sides are still aching from laughing at the performance of the ref who would be better off in a pantomime . 3 points away from home is still good whatever the opposition

I have to say that the first 45 minutes was the poorest i can ever remember seeing. Marginally better in the second half. Unbelievable that Taylor stayed on the pitch. Harrison was head & shoulders our best forward on the pitch and that's not actually saying much about his performance.
But given all that it was the most comfortable 1 nil win I can remember.

Just off to pick up Rivers, Dido and Basel (remember him?). The last time I wore this shirt an jeans to football we won 7-1, so I have gone for a slight change in footwear hoping for a clean sheet. 7-0 it is then Thanks for changing your footwear as I fear we would have lost if you hadn't!

He said he was seeing more blue than green. On the refs, one funny part of the afternoon, maybe the only, was when one awarded a free kick for Telford their crowd chanted, "You don't know what you're doing.'' The lino who was subbed was carted off on a stretcher on a trolley after the game from the dugout.

I see Brunt only played 2 mind yesterday so I doubt York will be extending his loan period. They can't under the terms of the loan. Apart from yesterday, he played every minute with them. No goals is a little worrying, but that has been covered before. It will be interesting to see whether he features for Rovers now, or whether DC puts him out on loan again.

Didn't go yesterday so can't comment on the performance but have seen us play unconvincingly and win quite a few times this season. Does anyone think we are still getting used to conference football? Out of the 10 outfield players yesterday, only Matty Taylor was playing for a conference team last year. People have said there isn't much difference between conference and league 2 football, I disagree and hope our players are still getting used to the style of football in the conference. We started the season poorly including losing to 2 'small' non league teams, however we have won 1-0 away to 2 similarly 'small' non league teams in the last month (Southport and Telford) which suggests we are learning how to win these games. Hopefully in time our performances will improve but we should all be happy being 4th in this league at this stage, especially considering we started poorly and are not playing to our potential.

Like last we have a very good defence plus the midfield is OK, so if we score first we can hold out for a win, the real test will come if our opponents score first, as we still hardly ever come back from. 1-0 down.
Let's hope we don't lose anymore players in training this week as we're almost now down to having to use Academy players again, with Monkhouse & Trotman now joining Sinclair & Leadbitter on the sidelines.

Anyone know what our most red cards in a season is? Coz I feel like we might be on course to beat it.

Anyone know what our most red cards in a season is? Coz I feel like we might be on course to beat it. Not an exact answer to your question, but in the eight seasons from 2005-6 to 2012-13 Rovers have had 31 red cards (8 at the Memorial Stadium, 23 away). In the same seasons, opponents have had 43 red cards (31 at the Memorial Stadium, twelve on their own grounds). So the average in that period was just under four red cards for Rovers per season. This season we've had five by 1st November. (Sinclair - last man, pulled back Altrincham forward; Mildenhall - arguably a fair tackle; Clarke - two "nothing" yellows; Leadbitter - mis-controlled ball, lunged and caught opponent who exaggerated the foul; Monkhouse - referee suddenly switched from hyper-lenient to hyper-punitive in response to jump leading with arm). In case you missed it last time, here's a link to a related article wot I wrote: www.thegasworks.net/apps/blog/show/33198328-bristol-rovers-red-card-analysis

I think that the reason that Ryan Brunt may possibly be being pushed down the pecking order at York City, is because York City have signed what appears to be two excellent players on loan. Diego De Girolamo, an Italian Under-20s striker on loan from Sheffield United, and Deon Burton from S****horpe have both brought a bit of fire power to York's front line. It's just a shame that we couldn't do the same.

DC has been pretty open about it in that he believes Taylor does so much more. I can't comment as have not seen him but it seems many are unimpressed by him Imo, he's a very useful player in every respect other than his strike rate Much appreciate the input. I don't normally comment on performance as I won't go right now but it's good to hear what people think
