I was at Henbury fc Monday evening when a young lady from the Landsdown empire was there promoting Bristol sport and closer links to the grass roots level of the game offering promotions and the such and a general all round marketing approach. This is hard for me to swallow , it seems that in our decline they are seizing the opportunity to soar ahead with their Bristol sport monopoly and apparent professional marketing approach which sadly leaves ours much to be desired. This should be a big f@cking wake up call to us because this depth in strategy and league standing is only going to widen.

I wouldn't worry, it's just flexing by an egotistical maniac.
When Ashton Gate is renamed Bristol Sport @ashton Gate, Bristol change their home strip to red and Bristol City become Bristol City Sport or the like we'll be laughing our bollocks off. The Bristol Sport gear that they sell has the City, Bristol, Flyers, Academy etc badge ironed on and the BS logo sewn on bigger than any other sports clothing brands badge on any other kit. City's club shop has seen stock cut to accomodate Rugby, Basketball, Womens Football & Formula s**t gear as well. It's all very well when they're top of the league but when it goes, it'll go big style and it'll be grand.

I doubt it will go tits up though, that's the problem.
We've stood so still for years (decades) now that we missed the opportunity to become an established championship side, which we had the potential to become. Now it looks like - with others keeping up, and us falling further behind - we might have even missed the boat to compete in the lower leagues. To me, UWE is/was our last hope of keeping up with others (let alone trying to get ahead)
We have been out maneuvered by someone who has a longer term vision and a plan for his company(ies). Sadly this means that the gap between us and our rivals looks unlikely to narrow (in fact is more likely to get more pronounced) unless there is a serious and sustained change in fortunes for us a) on the pitch and b) off the pitch by way of delivering a business model that works over the next 30 years to re-establish ourselves.
That said - perhaps I ought to resign myself to the status we now find ourselves in. After all, if we can enjoy the football, regardless of what league we are in, then that's OK inst it?

Our PR was & is appalling and they have had ZERO arrests from the pitch invasion. We are a country mile ahead of us. Sorry to bang on but if we don't get new blood in, who understand how to market us, then we are totally ducked

It would be intersting to see what the clubs take on this is , ie , Bristol Sport touting in traditional gas heartlands. As mentioned in other posts , we are years behind our neighbors in everything we do. When do you think we will be going to schools in Hartcliffe and Ashton ?
Surely as a start it is better to give free tickets to schools on selected matches than have empty seats ?
Iam sure it forms part of our business review and long term business plan.
I love the gas but ffs I despair at times.

When do you think we will be going to schools in Hartcliffe and Ashton ? I went to school in South Bristol, back in the early 90's I remember a few Rovers players coming down to do a bit of coaching in the summer at Headley Park playing fields Steve Cross used to do it reguarly, along with Marcus Stewart, Lee Archer, Marcus Browning and Lee Maddison That was over 20 years ago mind!

I don't think Bristol Sport are seizing the moment so to speak, merely moving with the times, visit most professional FC's and you will see such initiatives.
I genuinely feel sorry for supporters put out by this important issue.
Looking at YT clip posted here recently when dear old Ray Kendall was interviewed from a portacabin in 1990 on the Saint and Greavesy show, saint commented about 'can you believe the club operates from portacabis'. if the saint were to pull into the club car park in 2014 almost quarter of a century later he will see that some things haven't changed, if he came in December he would be treated to Santa's Grotto.
It's pretty clear that there is no intention from any of the club directors or chairman to change this, one mention of the word marketing to our directors would probably receive a response a long the lines of what's your favourite market Eastville or Southmead.
We have been run like a non league club for many years off the pitch and as a result we have found our true home now, all we can do is grow old and hope that one day the club is bought by people who understand how to run a club professionally.

Tax Dodger Steve has his finger in too many pies so he's looking to merge them all into one.
Egotistical tax dodging maniacs aren't good chairman.

All we need is a billionaire and we can keep up Well we did have the opportunity a few years back, but the then Chairman was too greedy for his own good. Out of his league I suspect.

Tbh if your gas your gas and they can advertise the Bristol Sport rubbish all they like but it's money wasted as I see it. So they may pick up the casual supporter who has moved into the area, but that's been the case for years, ask anyone from the likes of Bradley Stoke & Emersons Green who isn't a Bristolian who they support and they'll say they watch the sh*t because they are glory hunter like all the local ManU, Arse fans who don't actually go to the matches but would rather spend their hard earned with a national satellite tv supplier.
If SL wasn't spending money on all his toys then he would only be paying more tax......and we all know he doesnt like doing that (allegedly).
The underdog comes good in the end ;-)

The frustrating thing is that it doesn't even need any bright ideas. Same with merchandising.
Just go and look at what clubs such as Brighton are doing and copy it, whether it's promotions or merchandise. Is it really that hard?

Do we seriously want to become some kind of hideous corporate outfit though? Bristol Sport sounds a bit like he's trying to create something like red bull have done, which i think is nothing to aspire to at all. I could see the gas more like fc st pauli in hamburg, more two fingers to the commercialisation of sport than fc fizzy pop plc.
