Hopefully many of you will remember my project to collect and publish the marvellous away game memories of us Gasheads and Pirates. Well, the book is NOW OUT. ‘Away The Gas’ let’s you wallow in over 50 years of ‘I was there’ moments, from Halifax Town in 1963 to Pompey in 2014, and shows why we cherish away days so much. Full details are on the website - www.awaythegas.org.uk - including a good look inside the book (cover pages, contents, introduction, 3 photo pages, and 9 text pages). You can also purchase a copy there. I hope you like it. Martin Details -
- 240 pages of funny, poignant and emotional short stories and tall tales, all written by loyal Gasheads and Pirates just like you and I.
- PLUS 16 pages of colour photos, and several B&W photos dotted throughout the book.
- Family Friendly? Certainly.
- Hokey Cokey? Yes, that’s what it’s all about…
- I always try to use the books I publish to help others as well. In March 2013 Nathanael Hornby, a 25 year old Gashead, sadly passed away after a battle with a brain tumour. 10% of any profits from the book will therefore be donated in his honour to The Brain Tumour Charity (registered charity #1150054).
- Available to purchase here

Well done, Martin.
The package landed on the doormat this morning! I’ve only had chance to skim through so far, but I’m really impressed with the high quality of the presentation and the sheer weight of the book!
I can tell that I and every Gashead that’s been on the road over the last few decades will find it an absorbing and enjoyable read.
I’ve already laughed out loud at one picture!

Martin, I'd like to publicly thank you for personally delivering your latest tome to me. It seems like a darned good read, and is much more ''weightier'' than I was expecting. I've only had the time to quickly look through the book up till now, but I can already say that it has exceeded my expectations, and more. My only question is . . . why on earth didn't you ring the bell, and come in for a drink (or two)? But seriously it's a big well done from me, for it must have been a massive undertaking for you, but you brought it to an excellent conclusion.

Received mine today and my first thoughts are that it is brilliant. Im not one for reading a book from cover to cover so I really like the way I can just pick a few stories and read them and keep going back to it. A fantastic piece of work. Well Done!!!

Well Done!!! thanks Steve for the feedback. Interesting to hear how different people 'read' books. I think it is fair to say that this one could definitely be picked up and put down again / dipped in and out of. Given your excellent match reviews it's a shame you didn't write for the book. I think it could have been good.

I can tell that I and every Gashead that’s been on the road over the last few decades will find it an absorbing and enjoyable read. I’ve already laughed out loud at one picture! which photo was that? was it the sauce station? someone mentioned it to me but hard to keep up with who is who /who has messaged me / who hasn't etc. The weight is probably because I used slik (glossy) stock, which I am so glad I did as its good for photos and can look so much better than normal paper, which can look rough/cheap. I had a hard decision to make between the thickness of the paper and as there is so much (black) text in the book was poo scared of the text potentially showing through, that i went for the thicker paper even though it added more weight to it that I would like, re postage reasons...the margins are so tight I've had to try to look ahead of the game. All in all I genuinely like it. which is handy, because I'm stuck with them now

I think it could have been good. . . . and that applies to newspapers as well, or at least it does where I'm concerned. As a child I always made a bee-line for the back pages of a newspaper to read the sports section first, and then read the paper from the back to the front. But nowadays I still start reading from the back, but only as far as the first sports page, and then I start from the front page and read the paper in page order.
