Miami Open: 'Fearless Carlos Alcaraz fuels prospect of Novak Djokovic duel'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2983/production/_129072601_alcaraz.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/7549/production/_129052003_alcaraz_iw.jpgIf anybody outside the tennis world had forgotten about Carlos Alcaraz after an injury-hit few months, the Spanish teenager has quickly reminded them of his precocious talent. The 19-year-old US Open champion is back on court, back to his best and back as the world number one. But if Alcaraz does not defend his Miami title this fortnight, and the 1,000 ranking points which come with victory, he will be overtaken again at the top of the world rankings by Novak Djokovic - even though the 35-year-old Serb is not playing in Florida. Their duel for the ATP top spot - which is calculated by points accrued over the previous 52 weeks - is set to continue over the coming months. And the dominant manner in which Alcaraz swept to the prestigious Indian Wells title last week fuelled thoughts about a tantalising battle with Djokovic for the sport's biggest prizes in 2023. "Novak is one of the best players in the world. That's obvious. If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best," said Alcaraz. "I wish to play against him many more times." For now, Alcaraz - and the rest of us - must wait a little longer... ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/C57B/production/_128455505_djoko.jpg

Martina Navratilova: Tennis legend says she is 'cancer-free' after treatment..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/543C/production/_129046512_gettyimages-1353907029.jpgTennis great Martina Navratilova says she is "cancer-free" after fearing she "would not see next Christmas". The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion, who previously had breast cancer in 2010, was diagnosed with throat and breast cancer late last year. In January, she said both cancers had been caught at an early stage. "As far as they [the doctors] know I'm cancer-free," the 66-year-old said on Piers Morgan's TalkTV show on Tuesday. "I still need to deal with the right breast, probably need to have radiation but that's a couple of weeks and that doesn't even count. "That's more preventative than anything else. I should be good to go. It's 99% solvable." Navratilova noticed an enlarged lymph node in her neck during November's WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas. A subsequent biopsy revealed stage one throat cancer. During the tests, a lump was also discovered in her breast, which was later diagnosed as an unrelated cancer. "I was in a total panic for three days thinking I may not see next Christmas," she told Morgan. "The bucket list came into my mind of all the things I wanted to do. "And this may sound really shallow, but I was like, 'OK, which kick-ass car do I really want to drive if I live like a year'?'" Navratilova said her friend and former rival Chris Evert, who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in December 2021, supported her "so much" through her treatment. The pair, who dominated women's tennis during the 1970s and 80s, received cancer treatment in the same New York clinic. "Our careers are always intertwined and then we follow each other this way," Navratilova said. "You can't just make it up. The parallels are unbelievable. Same place. Some of the same nurses. "Chris has been just a star. She has supported me so much through this as I supported her a year ago." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/061C/production/_129046510_gettyimages-1424042367.jpg

Miami Open 2023 results: Emma Raducanu loses to Bianca Andreescu..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/166F0/production/_129088819_raducanu.jpgEmma Raducanu, who reached a career-high 10th in the world in the months after her 2021 US Open win, is now ranked 72ndEmma Raducanu was knocked out of the Miami Open by Canada's Bianca Andreescu after an absorbing first-round match that showcased the huge potential both players still possess. The British number one, 20, lost 6-3 3-6 6-2 against 22-year-old Andreescu, who also won the US Open as a teenager. A tight contest ran away from Raducanu when Andreescu won the last four games. Raducanu, ranked 72nd in the world, enjoyed a productive week in Indian Wells before moving on to Miami, having reached the last 16 in the Californian desert despite her preparation being hampered by a bout of tonsillitis and the recurrence of a wrist injury. While her build-up in Florida was more conventional, landing a first-round opponent with the calibre of former world number four Andreescu was a tough draw. The parallels between the pair are clear - primarily being teenage US Open champions who have been beset by injuries since, but also born in the same part of Canada with Romanian heritage. And so it teed up an intriguing contest between two exciting players who reminded everyone of their considerable talent in an enjoyable encounter. Raducanu, who won the New York title as a qualifier in 2021, was broken in her first service game of the match when she pushed a forehand wide and 31st-ranked Andreescu moved 2-0 ahead with what proved to be a critical break in the opening set. Former Miami finalist Andreescu continued to apply pressure on Raducanu's serve while dominating on her own, retaining composure to seal an opener which she had long controlled after the Briton had seen off three other set points. Raducanu's unforced errors had far outweighed her winners but she found her rhythm in the second set, looking comfortable on serve and returning with more quality. As the Briton moved 4-3 ahead with the set still on serve, her belief continued to grow. She cranked up the pressure in a gripping eighth game lasting 21 minutes, Andreescu showing incredible resistance and resilience to save six break points, but eventually buckling and enabling Raducanu to take the match into a decider. Both players took a long break before the third set - an indication of their mental and physical exertions - and the encounter resumed at the same intensity. Raducanu was unable to break Andreescu's serve from 0-40 in the opening game and that proved crucial as the 2019 US Open champion quickly turned what had been a delicately-poised battle in her favour. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/F1C0/production/_129088816_raducanu.jpg

Miami Open 2023 results: Andy Murray loses to Dusan Lajovic in straight sets..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/E54A/production/_129089685_gettyimages-1473548658.jpgTwo-time champion Andy Murray suffered a straight-set loss to Dusan Lajovic in the first round at the Miami Open. Former world number one Murray, winner in both 2009 and 2013, was beaten 6-4 7-5 by the 76th-ranked Serb. It comes a week after the fatigued 35-year-old Scot lost to Jack Draper in the third round at Indian Wells. Fellow Briton Kyle Edmund is also out after losing 7-5 7-5 to Wu Yibing, while Emma Raducanu was defeated in the women's draw by Bianca Andreescu. Murray, currently 52nd in the world, won a remarkable seven deciding sets among several marathon victories in an exhausting opening to his 2023 season. But he was unable to produce the response required after Lajovic, 32, forced the first break of serve in game seven and went on to clinch the opening set. Murray hinted that another memorable comeback could be on the cards as he broke back immediately to stay in the second set at 5-5. However, Lajovic moved quickly to extinguish those hopes with another break and was relieved to serve out the match in straight sets when Murray framed a forehand. "When I didn't close it out I thought it's happening again," Lajovic, who will play American Maxime Cressy, said of Murray's ability to battle back. It is a disappointing result for Murray, who had not lost in the opening round of a tournament since early January, and he is now 8-5 overall this season. "Some days you obviously don't hit the ball your best, but my movement wasn't great today," Murray said. "I served pretty well, but the rest of the game was a bit of a problem." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/701A/production/_129089682_gettyimages-1473416834.jpg

Miami Open 2023: Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk refuses handshake with Russia's Anastasia Potapovaichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1766/production/_129109950_gettyimages-1249191868.jpgMarta Kostyuk is number 38 in the women's rankings Ukraine's Marta Kostyuk refused to shake hands with Anastasia Potapova after she was beaten by the Russian at the Miami Open. Their two countries are at war after Russia invaded Ukraine last year. Potapova, who was recently warned after wearing a Spartak Moscow football shirt at a match, won the second-round encounter 6-1 6-3. Kostyuk has previously refused to shake hands with Russia's Varvara Gracheva and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka. Belarus has been a key ally of Russia in the war against Ukraine. After losing to world number 26 Potapova, Kostyuk said there had been no response from the WTA about a request from Ukrainian players to meet. "Yes, we wanted to have the meeting with the board and we didn't get one. No reply, nothing, just silence," she said. WTA chief executive Steve Simon recently told BBC Sport his organisation was doing as much as it was able to for players from Ukraine. "I mean, once we're in the meeting we can talk about it," said 38th-ranked Kostyuk. "Before the meeting, I don't think it's a good idea to talk about what we want to talk about there." Speaking about Potapova's warning for wearing a Spartak football shirt, she said: "There are a lot of things that I don't agree with that the WTA is doing. This is not going to change anything. "I'll just get more hate online. Whatever I say, I will get a lot of hate. I don't know. "Warning, whatever. You give her a warning... You can suspend someone, I don't know. I can't comment on that really, it's just funny." Potapova will next play American Coco Gauff, who beat Canada's Rebecca Marino 6-4 6-3.

Miami Open: Dan Evans and Coco Gauff among seeds to fall..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/183C0/production/_129146299_gettyimages-1246403134.jpgBritish number two Dan Evans is out of the Miami Open after losing in the second round to Italian Lorenzo Sonego. Evans, seeded 23 and ranked 30 places higher than his opponent at 29th in the world, was beaten 6-4 3-6 2-6. ...................................................................................................................................................................................................... He was one of a number of seeds who went out of the tournament on Saturday in both the men's and women's draws. Alex de Minaur and Matteo Berrettini exited, but the biggest casualty was women's sixth seed Coco Gauff, who lost to Russian Anastasia Potapova. Australian De Minaur, the 15th seed, suffered an agonising 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (10-8) defeat to Quentin Halys, the world number 79 from France. Italian Berrettini, seeded 19, had a similar close encounter, losing 7-6 (10-8) 7-6 (7-5) to American Mackenzie McDonald. Italian Lorenzo Musetti was the third of the men's top 20 seeds to fall as he was beaten 6-4 6-4 by in-form Czech Jiri Lehecka. Canadian fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime did progress with victory over Brazil's Thiago Monteiro on two tie-breaks, while women's third seed Jessica Pegula swept aside fellow American Danielle Collins 6-1 7-6 (7-0). Men's second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas progressed courtesy of a walkover as France's Richard Gasquet withdrew with an injury.

Davis Cup Finals 2023: GB to face Australia, France and Switzerland in group stage in Manchester..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/2B82/production/_129183111_gettyimages-1422781385.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/C7C2/production/_129183115_gettyimages-1424391884.jpgGreat Britain have been drawn to face Australia, France and Switzerland in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals in September. They will play their Group B matches at Manchester's AO Arena from 12th to 17th September. Four groups will take place that week across Europe, with Valencia, Bologna and an unnamed Croatian city also hosts for this phase of the tournament. The top two in each group will qualify for November's Finals in Malaga. Australia's Alex de Minaur and Nick Kyrgios could feature against Great Britain, as well as Switzerland's Stan Wawrinka. Cameron Norrie sealed GB's place in the group stage with a 3-1 qualifier win over Colombia last month. Meanwhile, Spain and Serbia will meet in Group C, to be held in Valencia. It will raise the possibility of Spanish 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and current world number one Carlos Alcaraz going head-to-head with Novak Djokovic, who has won the same number of majors as Nadal. Glasgow hosted one of the group stages of the Davis Cup Finals last year, as well as the Billie Jean King Cup Finals - the women's equivalent. But defeats in Scotland to the USA and the Netherlands saw GB fail to progress. Canada beat Australia in the final to claim a memorable first Davis Cup title. Queen's Club: Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie among British players at Cinch Championships..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F80E/production/_129220536_gettyimages-676452560.jpgAndy Murray and Cameron Norrie are among 10 British players named in the line-up for the Cinch Championships at Queen's Club this summer. Five-time champion Murray, 2021 finalist Norrie, Dan Evans and Jack Draper are in the singles, while Neal Skupski, Joe Salisbury, Lloyd Glasspool and Jamie Murray will play doubles. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid will feature in the wheelchair draws. The pre-Wimbledon tournament takes place from 19-25 June. Men's singles world number one Carlos Alcaraz will make his debut at Queen's while defending champion Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe have also confirmed their participation. Berrettini defeated world number 12 Norrie in three sets in 2021, before defending his title against Serbia's Filip Krajinovic last year. In Alcaraz, Skupski and Hewett, the line-up includes the current world number one in the singles, doubles and wheelchair rankings. Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray, who is the only Briton to win the Queen's title in the Open era, said: "It's always a great week at the Cinch Championships, playing at the Queen's Club with British fans. "Obviously I have a lot of special memories there so I'm really looking forward to returning this year."

Wimbledon 2023 lifts ban on Russian & Belarusian players for championship..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/142D3/production/_129234628_wimbledon.pngRussian men's world number six Daniil Medvedev (left) and Belarusian women's world number two Aryna Sabalenka will now feature at Wimbledon Russian and Belarusian players will be able to compete at Wimbledon this summer after the All England Club lifted the ban it imposed last year. The players will be able to feature this year "subject to competing as neutral athletes" and complying with certain conditions. They were banned in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the support provided by Belarus. Wimbledon starts this year on 3rd July at the All England Club (AELTC). "We continue to condemn totally Russia's illegal invasion and our wholehearted support remains with the people of Ukraine," said AELTC chairman Ian Hewitt. "This was an incredibly difficult decision, not taken lightly or without a great deal of consideration for those who will be impacted." The decision also covers other British events held in the run up to Wimbledon, most notably the tournaments at Queen's and Eastbourne. Conditions players must comply with include: Agreeing not to support the Russian and/or Belarusian states or their regimes and leaders. Not receiving funding from Russian and/or Belarusian states, including sponsorship from companies operated or controlled by them. Outside of Wimbledon and other British events, players have been able to compete on the game's professional tours as neutrals - including in the other Grand Slams - whereas Wimbledon and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) were fined for the bans imposed last year. The AELTC said its decision for the 2023 championship was made after discussion with the UK government, the LTA and international stakeholders. The AELTC and LTA said they stand by last year's position but that without changing their stance this year, tennis' two main professional tours, the men's ATP and women's WTA would have cancelled the LTA's membership. As a result, Queen's, Eastbourne and other British grass-court events would not have been staged, damaging British tennis organisations financially. Russian trio Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev and Daria Kasatkina - who are all in the top 10 of the men's and women's rankings - are among the high-profile names able to play this summer. Belarusian women's world number two Aryna Sabalenka, who won the Australian Open earlier this year, will also now likely feature. Players and their support staff will have to sign neutrality declarations in order to compete. Punishments for breaking the declarations will range from fines to expulsion from the tournament.

Rafael Nadal remains French Open doubt after Monte Carlo withdrawal because of injury..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/8CF6/production/_129268063_gettyimages-1246320212.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/D206/production/_129266735_gettyimages-1246321670.jpgDefending champion Rafael Nadal remains a doubt for the French Open after pulling out of next week's Monte Carlo Masters with an ongoing hip injury. The Spanish world number 14 has won the tournament in Monaco 11 times but is not fit to return to action. The 36-year-old has not played since his straight-set second-round defeat by American Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open in January. World number two Carlos Alcaraz is also out of Monte Carlo through injury. The Spaniard, who is chasing Novak Djokovic for the number one ranking, has hand and back problems. "After two months abroad I am happy to return home, but sad because I finished my last match in Miami with physical discomfort," said Alcaraz, who lost to Jannik Sinner in the last four of the Miami Open, on Twitter. "I will not be able to go to Monte Carlo to start the clay-court tour. I have post-traumatic arthritis in my left hand and muscular discomfort in the spine that needs rest to prepare for everything that is to come." Nadal had expected to be out for six to eight weeks after an MRI scan following his Melbourne loss showed a tear in his left psoas muscle. But missing the start of the European clay-court season leaves him short of match practice before the Roland Garros event he has won a record 14 times, which begins on 28 May. "I'm still not ready to compete at the highest level," Nadal said on Twitter. "I will not be able to play in one of the most important tournaments of my career, Monte Carlo. "I am not yet in a position to play with the maximum guarantees and I continue my preparation process, hoping to return soon."

Boris Becker: Six-time Grand Slam singles champion on prison, fame and the future, My time in prison was brutal..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A7D0/production/_129306924_borisbeckerwimbledon1985.jpgTennis great Boris Becker says he is building his life's "third chapter" following his release from prison. The 55-year-old German served eight months of his two-and-a-half-year sentence for hiding £2.5m worth of assets and loans to avoid paying debts. He was released in December and was subsequently deported from the UK. "I'm usually good in the fifth set - I've won the first two sets, I've lost the next two and I'm planning to win that," he told 5 Live Breakfast. In a lengthy interview, former world number one Becker said: There was "no handbook" for dealing with fame and fortune after winning Wimbledon as a teenager Prison was "brutal" and a "very different experience to what you see in the movies" He's a "stronger, better man" after eight months in prison The full interview will be played on Saturday's 5 Live Breakfast show. 'Whoever says prison life isn't hard is lying'The six-time Grand Slam singles champion, who was catapulted to stardom in 1985 when he won Wimbledon aged just 17, was found guilty of four charges under the Insolvency Act in April last year. The case centred on Becker's bankruptcy in June 2017 resulting from an unpaid loan of more than £3m on his luxury estate in Mallorca, Spain. Speaking before the release of a new TV documentary about his life and career, Becker said: "I don't think there was a handbook written for how to behave, what to do and how to live your life when you win Wimbledon at 17. "The fame and fortune after was very new. "Obviously I never studied business, I never studied finance and after my tennis career I made a couple of decisions probably badly advised but again it was my decision." After sentencing, Becker spent the first weeks of his detention at Wandsworth Prison in south-west London, before spending the majority of his sentence at Huntercombe Prison in Oxfordshire. "Whoever says that prison life isn't hard and isn't difficult I think is lying," the three-time Wimbledon champion said. "I was surrounded by murderers, by drug dealers, by rapists, by people smugglers, by dangerous criminals. "You fight every day for survival. Quickly you have to surround yourself with the tough boys, as I would call it, because you need protection." Becker said being a legendary tennis player counted for nothing while he was in prison. "If you think you're better than everybody else then you lose," he said. "Inside it doesn't matter that I was a tennis player, the only currency we have inside is our character and our personality. That's it, you have nothing else. "You don't have any friends at first, you're literally on your own and that's the hard part, you have to really dig inside yourself about your qualities and your strengths but also your weaknesses." 'I miss London' Following his release, Becker was deported to Germany and will not be allowed to return to UK soil until October 2024. "I miss London, I really miss Wimbledon and I won't be going there this year," he said "I'm fortunate that I can stand on my feet, none of my partners have dropped me, they've welcomed me back home. "When you're down, and the last five, six years were very difficult for me, you truly find out who's with you and who's not with you." Speaking about how he has been received by people since his release, he said: "Nobody's perfect including myself and I've accepted all of that. "I've been out now for three and a half months and I'm very humbled again by the reception I've received from fans, from people on the street from people who have followed the story a little bit." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DA98/production/_129306955_gettyimages-490702373.jpgThe former BBC pundit says he has been in dialogue with the BBC about being part of its Wimbledon coverage in the future. "I've told them I can't come back next year," Becker said. "If I'm allowed to go back I will make a phone call and ask if they want me back on the team, I would certainly love to but it's not my decision." 'I'm a stronger, better man' Becker believes he has learned valuable lessons from his time in prison. "I never thought at 17 I'd be incarcerated at 54," he said. "If anything it certainly humbled me, it certainly made me realise that whether you're called Boris Becker or Paul Smith, if you break the law, you get convicted and you get incarcerated, that goes for everybody. "I never expected the good and I certainly didn't expect the bad but I'm a survivor, I'm a tough cookie, I've taken the penalties, I've taken the incarceration but I've also taken the glory and if anything this made me a stronger, better man. "With my decisions in the future you can see whether I have learned from it or I didn't." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/169FE/production/_129307629_borisbecker.jpg

The British number one, ranked 13th in the world, was beaten 6-3 6-4 by Argentina's Cerundolo on the Mediterranean clay. Fellow Briton Jack Draper returned from injury with a 6-3 7-5 win in his opening tie against another Argentine, Sebastian Baez. The 21-year-old faces 10th seed Hubert Hurkacz of Poland in the second round. Draper was forced to retire during a fourth-round match with world number two Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells last month because of an abdominal problem. He then pulled out of the Miami Open as he did not want to make the problem worse. He was given a strong test against Baez in Monte Carlo but saved 11 of the 12 break points he faced while taking three of his own four chances. In his match, Norrie looked unsettled throughout and had 18 unforced errors compared with only eight winners. World number 33 Cerundolo, 24, gained the decisive break in the ninth game of the second set when 27-year-old Norrie netted a forehand. Norrie started the season with a run of 21 wins from 25 matches but also lost his opening match at the Miami Open last month when he was defeated by France's Gregoire Barrere.

Monte Carlo Masters: Andy Murray loses in first round..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/10C0E/production/_129322686_untitled2.pngAndy Murray fell to an early exit at the Monte Carlo Masters as he lost to Alex de Minaur in the first round. British number three Murray, currently ranked 57th in the world, was beaten 6-1 6-3 by the Australian 14th seed. Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, was playing on the Monaco clay for the first time since 2017. In total, Murray committed 26 unforced errors compared to the eight of De Minaur, who will face Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff in the second round. De Minaur was yet to win a Masters 1,000 match this year after opening defeats at both Indian Wells and Miami, but rectified that with his third victory over Murray on the ATP Tour. While both players were making their first appearance on clay in 2023, Murray - on his least favourite surface - was far from his best, losing the opening four games as De Minaur romped to the first set in 35 minutes. After arguing with chair umpire Carlos Bernardes early in the second set because he did not stop play after Murray's cap fell off mid-point, the Scot further lost his way, broken in the next game amid numerous unforced errors before De Minaur saw out a comfortable win. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/BDEE/production/_129322684_untitled.png

Billie Jean King Cup 2023: Emma Raducanu missing for Great Britain qualifier against France..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/AD37/production/_129334344_gb.jpgGreat Britain can be successful without Emma Raducanu when they play France for a place in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, says Katie Boulter. British number one Raducanu, 20, is unavailable for the best-of-five qualifier in Coventry this week. Captain Anne Keothavong has named the same squad that reached the semi-finals last year in Glasgow. "Of course we're going to miss Emma. But we're excited to have the same team as Glasgow," Boulter told BBC Sport. "There was an incredible atmosphere among the team and with the support we were given, and we're all working hard to try and cause a little upset against France." The winners of the tie, which will be played on Friday and Saturday and consists of four singles and one doubles rubber, qualifies for November's 12-team Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Who is playing for GB?British number three Harriet Dart leads the singles players as the highest ranked player at 138th, with support from experienced pair Heather Watson and Boulter, who are both outside the world's top 150. Doubles specialists Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls, who won both their matches on an impressive debut for their nation in Glasgow, are again picked. Jodie Burrage, who is ranked as Britain's top women's player behind Raducanu, missed out on selection. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/141CD/production/_129318328_watson.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/CC9D/production/_129318325_boulter.jpg................................................................................................................................................................ Who is playing for France?France possess a stronger squad than Britain in terms of rankings and pedigree, as well as the standout singles player in the shape of world number five Caroline Garcia. Garcia, who is also ranked inside the top 30 doubles players, is joined by world number 70 Alize Cornet and world number 111 Clara Burel. Cornet reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open last year and played a key role in France winning the 2019 Billie Jean King Cup, while Burel beat Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in the US Open first round last year. All three are ranked higher than the British singles players. Experienced doubles player Kristina Mladenovic - a nine-time major champion and the standout star of France's win four years ago - has also been selected by captain Julien Benneteau. "They are a very strong team and Garcia is a big weapon," Boulter said. "Ultimately, you never know who is going to play and we have to be prepared - which we will be." ........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................ What is the schedule?Friday 14th April: Two singles rubbers, starting at 2pm Saturday 15th April: Two singles rubbers and a potential doubles rubber, starting at 12pm

Monte Carlo Masters: Lorenzo Musetti beats Novak Djokovic in last 16..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/17F2F/production/_129359089_musetti_djokovic1_getty.jpgWorld number one Novak Djokovic suffered a shock loss in three sets to Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the third round at the Monte Carlo Masters. Djokovic, 35, won the opening set but eventually lost 4-6 7-5 6-4 in a match interrupted by a one-hour rain delay. It marked the biggest win of Musetti's career and he will play compatriot Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals. "I am struggling not to cry," Musetti said. "It is an emotional win because it was a really long match." The 16th seed added: "I am really proud of myself and I can see on the screen, I am struggling not to cry because it is a dream for me." Serbia's 22-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic said he did not feel the defeat was "catastrophic" but added he felt "terrible" after exiting the tournament. "I don't think it's catastrophic, but my feeling is bad right now because I lost the match," Djokovic said. "Well, [my] feeling is terrible after playing like this, honestly," he added. "But congrats to him. He stayed tough in important moments, and that's it. That's all I can say." ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/1310F/production/_129359087_lorenzo_musetti1_getty.jpg

Boulter 2-2 Garcia Peter Odgers - BBC Sport commentator Giving Caroline Garcia a taste of her own medicine, have to love that from Katie Boulter. Garcia has already hit a couple of double faults and that play from Boulter will only make her more shaky. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/149D4/production/_129363448_gettyimages-1482196887.jpg14:47 - Latest Boulter breaks the Garcia serve *Boulter 3-2 Garcia Some brilliantly attacking play from Boulter, steeping forward and dispatching some loose second serves, helps her get the first break of the match. The world number five is a break down and it's a brilliant start to the tie for Britain.

Great Britain v France in Billie Jean King Cup qualifier in Coventry - Results.Katie Boulter beaten 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-2) by Caroline Garcia ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/DA9E/production/_129366955_gettyimages-1482210762.jpgKatie Boulter and Anne Keothavong ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/14/5f6c1e8a-2d0c-41cd-89bc-e278240160bc.jpgKatie Boulter ................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Harriet Dart loses 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-3) to Alize Cornet It's another tie-break heartbreak for Great Britain! Alize Cornet makes Harriet Dart run, as she has done all match, and smashes the volley to take the tie break 7-3. Huge grit and determination from the Brit but the experience of Cornet shone through and she puts France 2-0 up in the Billie Jean King Cup after two hours and 27 minutes. Winner Alize Cornet says: "I'm so relieved, it was such a huge fight against Harriet. We both gave our best on court and it was super hard physically and I'm very happy to get through in two sets. The third set would've been very tough for both of us. "Five tie-breaks today, this tie is so tough and we knew we could not let go of a single point. "The Billie Jean King Cup is very different than the tour but I knew what to expect and she did too. We were starting from scratch, I was just trying to be focused and stay positive and fight - and that's what I did. "I love the game, love playing tennis, it's not easy every day but these kind of matches in this kind of atmosphere with my team-mates behind me gives me so much joy. "The love of the game is why I'm so consistent." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/14/c4be3985-4e2d-4fd6-8c85-c61a5036d37f.jpgAlize Cornet ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/05C4/production/_129367410_dart.jpgHarriet Dart ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... However, Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong could opt to bring in the experience of Heather Watson on Saturday. Watson is ranked outside the top 150 in the world but her experience in the tournament could give her an added edge if Great Britain hope to inspire a comeback. The 30-year-old has spent the day cheering her team mates on from the sidelines but could be called into action on Saturday. ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2023/4/14/73761bf1-8785-45c8-83d2-6b985aabe0e0.jpgHeather Watson .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. Great Britain face an uphill task to reach the Billie Jean King Cup Finals after losing both singles matches on day one of their tie against France. It means France have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five tie, which concludes at Coventry Arena on Saturday. "Sport can be brutal at times," Great Britain captain Anne Keothavong said. "Both Harriet and Katie should be proud of their efforts, it came down to a few points here and there." There have been just seven comebacks from 2-0 down in the competition, which was formerly known as the Fed Cup, since the best-of-five format was adopted in 1995. On day two, there will be two more singles rubbers which Britain must win to ensure the doubles match is needed to decide the tie. "They've got to keep their heads up, there is no time to dwell and we go again," Keothavong added. The winners will earn a spot in the 12-nation finals of the women's team event in November.
