Morning all
Just a quick question,
Usually stand in the Uplands Terrace but considering moving to the West side terrace on Saturday due to the weather.
I haven't ever watched a game from the West Enclosure before however, is it fully covered or do you still get pretty wet as you would on the Uplands?
Cheers.

You might get wet if the wind is blowing east to west. The only thing is, you'll probably be pissed off at all the moaning that takes place...............only joking

It is covered, but how wet you get depends on the wind direction. Usually it blows in to the back of the stand so you stay pretty dry. The further back in to the stand you get the drier it is. Never got drenched while standing there.

It's okay the club is giving everyone a piece of cardboard on Saturday to keep the rain off your head

If we had gone ahead with the refurbishment (somehow) of the Mem, would we be in the 'new' stadium by now and all be dry? (Simple question - not wanting to open a can of worms or invite personal abuse.)

(Simple question - not wanting to open a can of worms or invite personal abuse.) But the bottom fell out of the student accommodation market. However, I do wonder at the wisdom of letting planning permission lapse for the original Mem redevelopment. In the latter days of the Tote, it always used to amuse me how everyone would try to squeeze under cover in the rain, especially the lean-to on the North side.

Has the bottom really fallen out of the student accommodation market? It has continued to be very strong across the North of England with many starts and completions. It didn't stop simply because Opal fell apart. There are quite a number of other builders that I am aware of through my colleagues in a property team that I worked with. With regards to the rain I can remember the steam rising in the Tote on rainy days as every one squeezed in together, mind you it could also have been due to some not wanting to venture in the rain to the loos.......

Thought someone would know off the top of their heads, but permission was granted in 2007 to rebuild the Mem, so we would have been in by now and in the dry. Still, water under the bridge and all that.

I must have watched a few hundred games from there over the years and I'd say you are normally OK but more likely to escape if you are further towards the back.

Article on bbc news today saying students are sleeping in bunk beds because of shortage of rooms for new students and next year they are relaxing number of students so problem will get worse . While we are on the subject of what to do with the mem why don't we see if the prison service want to buy it for an annexe for horfield as the way the courts are jailing people for running on football pitches we are going to need a lot more

I don't think just redeveloping the mem is a bad idea at all. It was 18,000 capacity or so in the original plans? That would be plenty big enough for us for years, blackpool played the premier league with a smaller ground. There was a article on the news tonight saying there is a shortage of student accommodation, and Bristol was featured, might actually get done a lot quicker than the uwe, and cost less.

Morning all Just a quick question, Usually stand in the Uplands Terrace but considering moving to the West side terrace on Saturday due to the weather. I haven't ever watched a game from the West Enclosure before however, is it fully covered or do you still get pretty wet as you would on the Uplands? Cheers. Actually if you decide to come in the West enclosure you will be relatively dry in all weathers, you will enjoy a much higher level of repartee and social discourse which is most unusual on football grounds, there will be no references whatever to the colour of your hair, your skin nor your girth or your accent. There will be no mention either to your sexual preferences as long as you do not seek to abuse us.However if you are of height of six foot six inches or above you will be politely advised to move in a transverse direction to avoid disturbances to the regulars who have attended this section since the club moved here from Twerton. Incidently have you considered an umbrella, they are relatively cheap at £1 a go and by the way why are you so worried about the weather, are you the nephew of Michael Fish? or do you know something of the weather we should all be aware of.WARNING If you have Ebola you are barred from any section of the ground. Please ensure that you wave your red card you are provided with and if you feel that you are waving it under duress please wave it in your left hand.Be careful however a count will be taken of the left and right handers in a university study to determine those with left hand preference.

The news article I watched was talking about the UWE and Bristol Uni not having enough accomodation. Fill the Mem with flats and put 5000 partying students in there, they'll wish they had a lorry delivering to sainsbury's at MDT then.
