Back to the original post, I was looking at the FloydNello videos posted on Youtube. I don't quite remember it that way, but the last seasons at Eastville (especially after the fire) were particularly bleak. www.youtube.com/user/FloydNello/videosI also needed reminding that we were struggling to get crowds of 5500, even when near the top of Div 3 in 83/84. At our last game at Eastville against Chesterfield there was barely 3,000 there! What was the reason for that I wonder? It was the mid 1980s, football in Britain was seriously on the rocks. Even clubs like Arsenal occasionally got shockingly low crowds (by their standards). As late as February 1992, Chelsea got a crowd of just over 7,000 against Southampton at Stamford Bridge - then Sky changed everything.

I understand crowds were generally lower then because of certain factors I.e crumbling grounds, hooliganism etc,but it was our last ever game at Eastville! I remember going to Millwalls last game at The Den and it was their biggest crowd for decades! I just wondered why it was such a low crowd? Even for the time, surely more people would of turned up knowing it was the last game? Nostalgia and all that!

It wasn't absolutely definite - rumoured but not definite. The club kind of slunk away from Eastville rather than departing in a blaze of glorious nostalgia

We slunk out of ownership of Eastville, slunk out of Eastville forever, slunk into the 4th Division, slunk out of the Football League and now we're slinking out of reach of the UWE. These things just happen to us as we slink our way along, usually downwards in recent decades. No-one sees the bad things happening initially, but they get more and more likely until they just happen. We are powerless to fight events as we slink along aimlessly.

To be fair they must've learnt their lessons about the way we left Eastville because there were two much heralded final games at Twerton.

Never really understood the point in beating up other fellow working class lads just because they follow a different football team. I'd fight to overthrow the monarchy or government or something, but not someone who is basically the same as me over nothing. Someone will probably say they miss the NF next.

I think society would be much healthier with football fans fighting and leaving changes of government to the view expressed by the electorate via the ballot box. Eventually the monarchy will destroy itself, probably within the next 50 years, although personally I'd be happy if it happened tomorrow.

Democracy is flawed though, you end up with people voting for the wrong party ;-)

Ian Stephens jacked the rent up so high there was no way BRFC ould stay at Eastville, had they tried to stay they would have gone bust even with the Bradshaw / Flook / Dunford support.

Me neither, but I think it was a peculiar 1970's & 80's thing along with so many other negatives that went along with football support back then. Not that that excuses it in any way. Let's be honest, even at Eastville there were some nasty elements back then at matches if you think back without the nostalgic rose tinted glasses that many of us like to use when thinking back to the old days.
