Don't know how many have realized but if we are successful in the FA TROPHY we would go from 2nd January until 14th February with no home league games and in that period our fixtures would be after Torquay at home on 2nd January
Nuneaton Away
Woking A
Dartford A
Grimsby A
Looking further into this if the draws went against us and we were drawn away in every round then fixture list could look like this!!
13 Dec FA TROPHY 1 Away
20 Dec Gateshead H
26 Dec Torquay A
28 Dec Macclesfield H
Jan 1 Torquay H
4 Jan Nuneaton A
10 Jan FA TROPHY 2 Away
17 Jan Woking A
24 Jan FA TROPHY 3 Away
31 Jan Dartford A
7 Feb FA TROPHY 4 Away
14 Feb Grimsby A
21 Feb SF TROPHY First Leg A
28 Feb SF TROPHY Second leg H
This could in a worse case scenario (or should I say BEST scenario as we would be in the Final) 8 away matches on the trot!!!!
Of course if we were very very successful and reached the 3rd Round of the FA Cup then the Torquay Home game would be cancelled and we could be drawn away again making a possible 9 away games on a trot!!!
Lets hope the draws go our way!!!!

We're getting better away from home.

If we are not successful in the FA trophy then we will have home games v Braintree, Lincoln and Altrincham.
If we are successful in the FA trophy/Cup then these games will be rearanged for mid week games in Jan/Feb as is the norm in the conference. There are no mid week games currently arranged for Jan/Feb (After the new years day games) for precisely this reason. The mid week slots (in FEB/March) are also left available for games canceled in Nov/Dec/Jan due to bad weather as is the norm.
We will have a home game between the dates the original poster outlined is what I am trying to say. We just don't know what they will be yet!

With confidence building, they all look like winnable games!
I sense the Confernence fixture computer is some old guy in a back room, surrounded by mountains of paperwork. He probably dropped the index cards and lost his place when compiling the Rovers fixtures for the new year.

I actually think the way the Conference do it makes quite a lot of sense. They have to deal with poorer quality grounds and the liklihood that many of their sides will be involved in a national cup competition for the first 3 months of the year. Therefore to frontload the fixture to take account of this seems good sense to me. It happens to often in the football league that issues of promotion and relegation are strongly influenced by the number of call off/cup runs forcing sides to play a lot of games in a bunch right near the end of the season - this lowers the quality and can make the ending something of a lottery regarding who's players have managed to stay fit. I have noticed in the past in the Conference that there is a massive disparity at times in terms of the number of games played between teams - maybe this is one way of trying to address that. Leagues lose a bit of their integrity if sides end up having too many games in hand. It particular dilutes the tension and confuses things at the end.

So on the flip side we could have 10 home games out of 15 if all the cup ties were drawn at home, then again it could just all balances itself out!!

The view of that power station looking at out into the sea at Cleethorpes on the way up to Blundell Park along the coast is about the most romantic seaside spot in the entire country, I'm getting gooesbumps just thinking about it.....

Success in the Trophy would be going out in Round 1. Or just not entering.

Completely disagree. Going into every game to win is the only worthwhile policy for a football club.

The first few rounds of the trophy can certainly be interesting. Last year the first round saw Wrexham against Gresley, Luton against Staines, Barnet against Hayes and Yeading, Grimsby v Coalville, Gateshead v Hednesford.
There would be an uproar if we lost to any of those teams in the first round this year!
Definitely play to win.

Success in the Trophy would be going out in Round 1. Or just not entering. What are you basing that on? The idea that we shouldn't distract ourselves from the league or the idea that you can't quite accept that we have fallen to the extent that we qualify to enter it in the first place. If the latter I sympathise a bit. But the fact is that we're not a big enough club that we can pick and chose success and we may as well take a crack at it - potential trip to Wembley, could be some interesting outings on the way etc. Losing the 2007 JPT final galvinised a league side that was going nowhere to have a run at the playoffs; you never know how team will react. I also just think it's flat out wrong to throw your hand in as a professional football club. I always take pleasure in watching sides that put out their second string in the Europa League tank in the Premiership - it's karma. Villa were the first to suffer from it in O'Neil's tenure when they put out a terrible side in Europe when they were flying high in the Prem. They duly knocked out and went down the swanny in the Premiership. Fulham and Borough on the other hand had league bounces off the back of deep runs in the Europa League and got their fanbases behind them - much more fun than just trying to finish 7th or scrape survival one more year. What's Bill Nicholson quote at White Hart Lane 'football is about the glory' - I think that's about right. Football's become a never ending treadmill - it should be about the 'event'; the Trophy will do for me on that basis.

What about possible replays in the FA Trophy - there was a proposal that all ties would be decided on the day but according to the FA website it didn't happen :-
If a first match is drawn after 90 minutes, an extra 30 minutes may be played (15 minutes each way). The agreement for the playing of extra time shall be agreed in writing between both Clubs and confirmed in writing by the Home Club to The Association on The Match Arrangement Form which must be received by The Association within seven days of the date of the draw and notified to the Referee on the Official Team Sheet no later than 45 minutes prior to kick-off. Clubs may mutually agree, and confirm on the Match Arrangement Form, to determine the winner of a first match drawn after extra time by taking kicks from the penalty mark. When a first match has resulted in a draw, it must be replayed on the following Thursday, unless the Clubs mutually agree to an earlier day.
So if the opposition aren't agreeable to extra time / penalties then we have to shoehorn more matches into the equation. If we're playing a small team, home or away, they're much more likely to take the view they'd sooner replay and make some money rather than go along with the mutual agreement.

Irish, your post was too long for me to quote and reply using my phone but in answer to your question, it's the latter. I've never wanted to watch Rovers in the Trophy up til now, and see no reason to change my mind now.
Although no doubt I'll go assuming it's somewhere I haven't been before or a home game.

Not sure what the big concern is about playing FA Trophy games, as surely with an average home gate at least twice as big as any other non league team then we should be able to compete in the league & cup with them, without stretching the squad too far? After all we're never going to play more than two games a week.

He probably dropped the index cards and lost his place when compiling the Rovers fixtures for the new year. the joke at bath city is that the fixtures are worked out on the back of a fag packet in late july, and tough luck how they work out for you, Larkhall asked the fa if they could play at home when bath city are away, no prize for guessing what happened.
