After a third of the season played, what have we learnt...
You don't have to play well to win games This division really is all about the strikers The officials are so poor it's unbelievable We don't know if some of the teams we are playing are wearing their home or away kit The 4th official's board doesn't show any numbers on the back Bobby Gould's autobiography is still for sale in the club shop

Everyone has massive defenders. Some teams have massive everyone. The bald refs are even worse than the others Part time doesn't necessarily mean worse The fixture list is quirky to say the least

People that say the standard between league 2 and conference is tiny are clueless

If we get a striker or 2 that can find the net then we'll p1ss the league by that country mile that everyone goes on about

It costs a small fortune to get to away games on a train and even then you have to make a million changes to get to a cattle shed nowhere near the ground. Oh and you can't run from the cricketers to southampton airport train station in 20 mins after being on the pop for 9 hours.

I disagree. Ours haven't done the business at all and we are 4th. As for this league being worse, in general yes. But the likes of Woking, Barnet and Wrexham looked better than some of the bottom half league two teams that visited the Mem.

Most teams in League 2 would come to the Mem with the intention of playing football which in many ways makes the games easier whereas most of the teams in the Conference come with the intention of getting a point. I would however agree that the top ten Conference teams would hold their own in the division above. Proof of this IMO is Wycombe are doing really well and Exeter have turned the corner with a very average team.

I'm sure if we were in the top 4 of league 2 teams would come to the mem and set up for a point. Clearly our time in league 2 all teams could see we were there for the taking!

At this point in the season last seasons winners Luton Town had 27 points, we currently have 28!

I really don't understand why we are playing some teams twice in the first half of the season, and some not at all

As someone else has said ... this League is actually here for the taking .... BUT we desperately need a striker . it will come down to the Board and a willingness to spend some money .... I think we will be looking back come May thinking what could have been !!

Agreed not seen a decent except for Charlie MacDonald of Barnet a veteran ex fl league player who scored against Rovers in their first away match and netted 5 in the first eight league games and appears to be either injured or out of favour there.
Generally quality of finishing by all sides I have seen has been very poor so far.
We have won matches by so very unconvincing performances but that's perhaps that is what is necessary to ensure a play off place.

I have learnt that, as the result of a thorough internal review about last season's failings, the Board has concluded that we did not score enough goals. This season however......
Off the pitch I see no change in attitude or actions likely. That is the very depressing part of the season so far. In summary, my low off field expectations have sunk lower.
On the pitch we have a team that looks willing to play for each other, the manager, and the fans. At the fifth time of asking we have finally appointed a manager able to hold his own at the level the club finds itself at. In summary, my low on field expectations are now raised slightly, but are tempered by the realisation that although the Board conducted a very thorough review they don't seem to have acted on its only conclusion.

Yes, division 5 is **** and there is a massive gap between division 4 and 5. Some of the opposition are really sensitive and some are thugs. Rovers are not great but have managed to win games. O ye and we still need a decent winger, creative midfielder and a goal scorer, Higgs has managed single handedly to scupper the new stadium project, waste millions of £, still he will not engage fully with the supporters, not sure what ever happened to higgsie top to bottom review of the club, same old **** just another season. I think we will be looking back come May thinking what could have been !! I agree and it would show real intent by us if we had a go at signing Brett Williams from Aldershot, reports on their forum that he's not a happy bunny right now so get an offer in to take him on loan with an agreement to make it a permanent deal in January.Cant be on a big wedge and second top scorer in this division last season in a struggling team plus he would give us all a massive boost if it happened.Send out a huge message to our rivals as well!

I was thinking exactly the same about Williams earlier. Would be a great signing.
