Getting way ahead of myself I know but the semi finals of the FA Trophy are scheduled for 2 weekends, 1 match being played on Feb 21st and the other on Feb 28th. We are scheduled to play Gateshead away on Feb 28th so if either club makes it that far it's possible the league match would take place on an evening. Anyone else remember travelling up to watch the Gas play Newcastle away midweek? From memory it was in 1992 and we drew 0-0. It was sadly also the day Bobby Moore passed away if memory serves me right.

One of the few bright spots in a terrible season that result - we finished bottom, Newcastle won the league by a country mile, yet we got a 0-0 at St James Park Reminds me, must work out the Trophy dates - anyone got em?

Dates are on Wikipedia. Just realised that the semis are over 2 legs...also it seems that any replays take place the midweek following the original match (as used to be the case with the FA Cup)

You're right, it was the day Bobby Moore died, we bumped into a Geordie we had met at Twerton outside the ground and he told us the news. It was a memorable night for all sorts of reasons, including being locked in a pub for our own safety -apparently I had misconstrued thinly veiled threats as 'a bit of banter', and as I light heartedly gave back as good as I got the landlord kindly acted before I ended up in a Newcastle intensive care unit (it is possible I may have had a few drinks by this time). We ended up in Greys nightclub drinking with Dennis Smith, his assistant (Malcolm Crosby?) and Paul Bracewell, and when we got back to our digs in an incredibly dodgy part of town the door was locked so we broke in by climbing in through a very small window that was left ajar (it was my mate Bernie who actually squeezed in through the window- I wouldn't fancy his chances of doing that these days!) It was a real classy B&B, on arrival they gave a list of pubs that under no circumstances we should go into, and served orange squash and not juice for breakfast!

Paul Bracewell had only joined Newcastle from Sunderland in summer 1992 so I guess he was still friendly with Smith and Crosby. Very good player whose England career was sadly curtailed by injury - he was part of that great Everton midfield of 1984-85

I went to the game at Newcastle Utd on that cold night on the supporters club coach. Great to get a goal less draw and do recall the stewards saying as we got off the coach. These Geordie fans are not as friendly as they are made out to be so beware....their fans barracked their players as they could not score against Rovers. Remember a long journey home was a night mare as the driver on coach unable to turn off the heater on coach ...boiling hot we had the ceiling vents open to try and keep the temperature down arriving back in Bristol about 3am totally exhausted !
