The more important issue might be that in order to raise the kind of revenue they seem to be after they'd presumably have to go outside of the main European hotbed which means an awful lot of travelling.
Can't imagine fans in Barcelona, Munich, Milan etc turning out en masse for a friendly in the mists of title race and a Champions League run. So it would have to be obscure places in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the US and further afield. Not exactly ideal for trying to get back into the Champions League. I can't believe Van Gaal really likes the idea.
