Good to see being named captain of club and country hasn't stopped him being a petulant little sod. Disgraceful tackle yesterday.

Didn't say that at all, but seems a strange choice by both Hodgson and LVG to make him captain when he has that in him. Both had good model pro candidates like Cahill and RVP.

Six in his career though for a striker isn't a great record, would've probably had plenty more if Fergie hadn't taken him off several times when he was at simmering point.

To say if Fergie hadn't taken have him off it would have been more is pure BS, FACT! Who's to say if he had taken him off he wouldn't have scored 4 goals in each game? Simmering point doesn't mean a red card.

It just shows his lack of intelligence. He needed to just give the player a tug, stopped the game, allowed his defence to prepare, and accept the booking. Instead it was a terrible kick at a player which put his team on the defensive for the rest of the game.

I actually didn't think it was that bad a challenge. I was watching it with a mate and we were both very surprised when the red card was pulled out. Honestly think if it was anyone other than Rooney there wouldn't be much of a fuss being made right now. While, I don't actually think it was malicious - he was trying to trip the guy and horribly mistimed it and then panicked. I think I've seen plenty of challenges like that receive yellow cards only. Generally think Rooney get a lot of abuse he doesn't really deserve because he looks like people's idea of a thuggish footballer. In reality most of the trouble he's got into over the years has been more stupid and petulant than nasty and off the pitch his main reputation round the Manchester and Cheshire area is for being extremely boring rather than a bigtime Charlie. People just don't like him - Gazza got away with far, far worse on and off the pitch and is still lauded by most as a 'character'. If Rooney did half what Gazza did people would be screaming for his United contract to be torn up.

Wayne Rooney rolls back the years to score in Old Trafford charity match as the 38-year-old dons the famous Manchester United shirt for the first time in seven years.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391287-0-image-a-2_1725718643605.jpgWayne Rooney shows he's still got it and why he remains Manchester United’s all-time record goalscorer. The ex-Premier League star hit a stunning free kick in the Manchester United vs Celtic legends game at Old Trafford today. The curling effort stunned Boruc in goal, who just stood helpless in the goals as the effort whizzed passed him straight into the top left corner. The now Plymouth manager's 25 yard strike has propelled the Red Devils into the lead in the star-studded exhibition game. During his decorated career Rooney, 38, scored a record 253 goals for United across 559 games. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391283-0-image-a-3_1725718664571.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391105-13824389-image-a-145_1725718292536.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391123-13824389-image-a-147_1725718307984.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391455-13824389-image-a-170_1725719358492.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391781-13824389-image-a-187_1725720479259.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/07/15/89391423-13824389-image-a-168_1725719332361.jpgThe contest finished 1-1 after 90 minutes after Rooney's wondrous free-kick was cancelled out by Gary Hooper. Yet they managed to outlast United in a penalty shootout, with substitute goalkeeper Lukasz Zaluska diving to his right to deny Danny Webber. Webber's effort was the only one saved, with Rooney, Denis Irwin, Nicky Butt and Darren Fletcher scoring for United While Charlie Mulgrew, Jonny Hayes, Stephen McManus, Simon Donnelly and Darren O'Dea scored for the Hoops. Manchester United Legends: Van Der Gouw, Bardsley, Johnsen, Silvestre, Simpson, Djemba-Djemba, Carrick, Fletcher, Valencia, Berbatov, Rooney Celtic Legends: Boruc, Lustig, Wilson, Mulgrew, McManus, Hayes, Petrov, Ledley, Samaras, Hesselink, Hooper

Wayne Rooney sparks concern for his health as he's pictured looking 'really bad' while watching Man United..by Daniel Davisi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/30/17/90277985-13908209-image-a-43_1727714487553.jpgWayne Rooney has sparked concern for his health after being pictured looking 'really bad' while watching Manchester United's defeat by Tottenham yesterday. The United and England legend was spotted in the stands at Old Trafford during his former club's 3-0 loss and looked distinctly unimpressed with their performance. Rooney, 38, has been in good spirits in recent weeks after steering Plymouth Argyle to two wins from their last four Championship games, boosting their survival bid. A photo of Rooney watching United while clad in a black coat was shared by Sky Sports on X and several users were quick to urge him to take care of himself. Rooney confessed in 2022 that he only had one suit that still fit him after being ribbed over his appearance by Jamie Carragher on Sky's Monday Night Football. Carragher noticed Rooney was wearing the same suit, shirt and tie combination from his Premier League Hall of Fame induction a fortnight before the show. Rooney responded: 'Do you know what? There's a reason behind that. 'Obviously, over the last year, I've put a little bit of weight on. So it's actually the only suit what'll fit me at the minute - I've got to get the most out of it.' Rooney has previously opened up on his fight to avoid piling on the pounds during his trophy-laden playing career, writing in his 2012 book My Decade In The Premier League: 'I'm like most blokes, I put on a few pounds after a holiday. 'Even if I don't train for a week, I put on two or three.' i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/30/17/90277959-13908209-image-m-44_1727714491598.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/30/17/90279363-13908209-image-a-51_1727714739692.jpg

Match report by BBC SportMorgan Whittaker's dramatic 97th-minute winner saw Plymouth beat Blackburn after home boss Wayne Rooney was sent off. Rovers thought they had grabbed a point through Joe Rankin-Costello's late equaliser, which saw Rooney shown a red card in the aftermath, only for Whittaker to head home in the final seconds. Rooney appeared to think there had been a foul in the build-up to Blackburn's leveller and remonstrated with the fourth official. The former England captain was then sent to the stands by referee James Linington following a heated exchange. The two late goals followed Michael Obafemi hammering home his first strike in a Plymouth shirt. The result moved Argyle up five places to 14th in the table, while Blackburn slipped one spot to eighth. Rovers made two changes from their midweek defeat by Coventry and the pair brought in by manager John Eustace nearly produced an opening goal.

Wayne Rooney's Plymouth are to be subject of a documentary..by Brent Pilnick, BBC Sport Englandi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/11/16/23/92153785-14091685-image-a-141_1731800717948.jpgFilming has begun on a behind the scenes documentary at Plymouth Argyle following the Championship side and their head coach Wayne Rooney. Cameras will be behind the scenes at Home Park as the former England captain experiences his first season in charge. The news comes the day after Rooney's wife Coleen entered ITV's 'I'm a Celebrity...' jungle in Australia. Rooney took over at Argyle in May and has led the Pilgrims to four wins and four draws in their 15 Championship matches this season. It is not yet known which platform or channel will screen the show, or when it will go to air. Argyle, who are 18th in the 24-team Championship and a point above the relegation places, are the latest side to have a documentary about them. Wrexham are probably the most well-known with their Welcome to Wrexham series featuring owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds becoming a hit for Disney+. Netflix's Sunderland 'Til I Die lasted three series and followed the fortunes of the Black Cats after suffering relegation from the Premier League and Championship into League One before earning promotion back into the second tier. Premier League Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal have also been the subject of behind-the-scenes documentaries in recent years.
