This proves what exactly? That you can make statistics say whatever you want them to say? We are doing pretty well I think at the moment though I agree.

I had a feeling that the fixture computer(....ahem!) had given us a relatively tough start and to have won 3 against the top half is OK. I guess you could deduce that we have some easier games to come, but that all falls down when you consider our loss to Altrincham.
Somehow, Rovers have to reverse the mentality that we approached the Altrincham and Braintree games. Going to tiny grounds with tiny home crowds needs to psychologically strengthen our resolve to perform, rather than weaken it. I hope we are learning that lesson and Saturday will be a test in that respect.

Thank you for your well thought out response and contribution to this forum, you must be one of the brighter ones in south bristol, playstation broken is it?, or are you bored w***ing over the league table? What kind of plank comes on to an opposition team's forum with a supposedly funny username and then fails to take the piss? They're top and we're non-league and the pillock comes up with this intellectual comment, how sad.

I was only thinking the other day, how many of the top teams have played each other. These stats show not many, makes our position look stronger providing we can start performing regularly away from home especially against the 'smaller' teams in the division.

Current update were still top in games against the top 12 and our point average has increased as well. 1 (2) Bristol Rovers p14 w7 d5 lost 2 pt 26 pt ave 1.85 2 (5) Kidderminster 13 - 6 - 4 - 3 - 22 - 1.69 3 (4) Grimsby 14 - 7 - 2 - 5 - 23 - 1.64 4 (1) Barnet 13 - 6 - 2 - 5 - 20 - 1.53 5 (3) Macclesfield 14 - 5 - 5 - 4 - 20 - 1.42 6 (7) Forest Green 16 - 5 - 7 - 4 - 22 - 1.37 7 (11) Lincoln 14 - 5 - 4 - 5 - 19 - 1.35 8 (10) Torquay 16 - 6 - 3 - 7 - 21 - 1.31 9 (9) Halifax 12 - 3 - 3 - 6 - 12 - 1.0 10 (8) Eastleigh 10 - 1 - 6 - 3 - 9 - 0.9 11 (12) Gateshead 12 - 1 - 7 - 4 - 10 - 0.83 12 (6) Woking 12 - 2 - 4 - 6 - 10 - 0.83 Barnet have picked up 42 pts out of 51 against the bottom 12 which is a 2.47 pt average. We have got 30 out of 48 pts with an average of 1.87 pts which is only fractionally better than our average against the top half and only 8th best in that category. so Forest Green and Torquay have the easiest run ins on paper with only 6 games to play against the top half. Eastleigh have the hardest task with 12 games still to play against the top half. Gateshead v Woking tonight looks like a nailed on draw as neither of them can beat fellow top half sides!

Only 5 of those 14 games have been away, and we've averaged 1.6 pts/game in those games.
fwiw
Our worst form is away against bottom half teams which is 1.45 pts/game. But we only have 2 more of those matches to play, Dartford, Dover.

Seriously though I don't think that's the whole story. There's not really anyone in this league that we should be remotely scared of but a lot of it does come down to luck in when we play sides. So I think we played Torquay at a good time when they are clearly sliding a bit and Macc at a perfect time when they were completely hammered by Christmas given their small squad. That sort of thing probably matters even more in the Conference than in higher leagues because of the limits of squads - if a side has it's leading scorer out then we're in business because chances are the replacement isn't much cop and they don't have much of a plan B. You hope that our real advantage should be having a larger squad, more capacity to bring in replacements and better fitness (ie full-time) than many clubs. You'd expect this to be more of an advantage over the 2nd half of the season when fatigue and transfers come more into play than in the 1st half. That's why I'm quite confident that we'll have a good run between now and the end of the season. Whether it's enough to catch Barnet is another matter but you'd be mighty dissapointed if we missed the playoffs from here.

Yes some good numbers there to gauge what kind of points total we may need.If the current overall points rate is maintained then Eastleigh would sneak the last play-off spot behind the current top 4,with 75pts.your probably looking at 2 or more teams (including Eastleigh)getting 9 or 10 more wins to make the final spot higher than 75pts and with just 6 pts separating 5th to 13th place and lots of pts being dropped then around 73 pts could well be enough this season.

Yes AF I agree with your first observation and we may have our work cut out to just maintain our high pts average because of that.Playing the teams that don't park the bus has suited us in the home games though so I think we can beat these teams away from home as well.
