Just heard that the car has shown up on one of their cameras going into St.Pauls so might get a couple of mates and take a drive down there to see what i can see,i think 3 rugby forwards should do the trick, naughty me not allowed to do that any more, but we will still go and have a look

You should get a vehicle tracker fitted, they don't actually cost that much and you can identify where the car is via GPS, there is probably an app you can get to download on your mobile to track it and even if you haven't, put an official looking label on your car/van, thieves are less likely to steal it if they think it can be quickly tracked down. We have them fitted on all our works vehicles, trackers that is, not labels ! Hope you get it back soon.

Hope that you get the car back undamaged, Padstow.
My son's car was stolen from our drive. It was not being used, as he was abroad, and on a couple of occasions two dodgy looking guys knocked at the door, asking if I wanted to sell it. I came home from work one day, and it was gone. The battery was flat, so they obviously came prepared to tow it away. Police were only interested in giving me a crime number, although I could have given a good description of the two people who I was 99% sure had stolen it.

End of. All too difficult for them.

son had his motorbike nicked whilst in Brighton, Police found it, rather worse for wear at the Asda car park near Marine drive, they put it in the compound for him and then charged him £150:00, for the pleasure of retrieving it, it was unrepairable. all he got was a crime number, despite having a very good clue as to who was the likely scumbag whose favourite trick is just this sort of thing, nothing came of it,

It disappeared for a few days, and then I had a message to go to Redland Police Station where I could reclaim the bike. When I arrived I was taken to the back yard of the station, where I saw that the bike was a virtual write-off. But on speaking to the Officer he told me that the thief was riding my bike across The Downs, with his girlfriend riding pillion, when the back tyre blew out throwing them both from the bike and causing the damage. Unfortunately for the pillion, she broke her leg. When I later told my mother this story, she was shocked that I was only concerned at the damage to my bike . . . and not the girl.

Sorry to hear that LIS,if that had been me,and might still be yet,the scumbag would have had a short sharp message about the errors of his ways Highly unlikely that the Police will have driven the car from the scene to a secure stoage compound. It will almost certainly have been moved by a recovery company such as Hinton Rescue, so there will most likely be a recovery fee and maybe even some storage to pay as well. As long as you have insurance against theft you could always claim those expenses, but that may not be worth doing unless you have protected no claims? If the car isn't safe to drive and you need to get it home or to a place of repair let me know, I know a local man with a flat bed truck / car transporter who moves cars, quickly and professionaly, for a sensible price.

Thanks for the offer BG,but the insurance company have just picked the car up from Hinton and are in the process of checking it out, from what i hear it is ok but they are giving the suspension a thorough check out.
Thats one thing about the forum,we disagree vehemently about the club but when it comes to things like this we close ranks to help each other in any way possible.
Thats what being a gashead is all about

Thanks for the offer BG,but the insurance company have just picked the car up from Hinton and are in the process of checking it out, from what i hear it is ok but they are giving the suspension a thorough check out. If there's an insurance claim already then get them to pop the brake pads out and check them, they will 'glaze' on the surface when over-heated, and it sounds like the scum that stole the car drove it 'enthusiastically'. You probably know more about cars than me, but glazed pads will have reduced efficiency. For the hour it will take to check the pads and deglaze or replace them it's well worth doing. It may have changed, but Police bikes used to have the pads checked and renewed if necessary after every high speed incident. Have them take a good look at the tyres for blistering / scuffing as well. When they hand the car back they will probably ask you to sign a satisfaction note to confirm that you are happy, it's quite difficult to get insurers to deal with issues that arise later once you've signed that note. If you aren't certain what you are signing just stick a caveat on the form, something like, ''I am not qualified to assess the quality or standard or repairs carried out, so place my trust in the repairer to have completed all required repairs correctly''. But I'm sure you can come up with a better way to word it

The insurance company examiners are very experienced engineers. They will be looking at the most cost effective solution to sort the car out. You've still got your consumer rights, as with all things- if you find something later, it can still be resolved.
