Their 1st Album Surfer Rosa never charted in the UK, but all of the following 6 studio albums charted in the top 8 in the UK charts. My favourite Pixies song is "Gouge Away", the Eden Park 2014 version is amazing, the bass and build up is outstanding. Since finding it, i have been playing it 100's of times, on headphones is best, Black Francis is a wonderful vocalist. Got into the Pixies in the 80s after hearing Surfa Rosa. An outstanding band, the 4 were a great fit. Saw them in the 80s think it was their first UK trip (ha again I can'trememberthe year, there's lots of stuff gone from that decade 😉).Had a chat with Kim (and Black) and shared her beer.Fancied her rotten! Yeh,Gouge Away. 👍 Edit. Now i've thought of Kim and my morning coffee is kicking in....she wore like a sensible secretary suit.Black skirt just above the knee, white sensible blouse with sensible shoes.Very sweaty, fag gripped between front teeth, playing her fantastic bass ,grinning manically. Golly gosh! Yes, Kim Deal, who on Surfer Rosa sang lead vocals on the only single released from the album "Gigantic", later joined the Breeders & the Amps bands. Kim aged 60 now has an identical twin sister Kelley who joined her in the Breeders. Surfer Rosa gained the Pixies acclaim in Europe; both Melody Maker and Sounds gave Surfer Rosa their "Album of the Year" award. They toured the UK 1st in 1988, the Bierkeller was October 1988 or the Bristol Studio was May 1989.

Ahh, Ok, then it could have been April 1988 at the Burberries, Sept 1988 at the Irish Centre or April 1989 at the Hummingbird.

Fun fact. The single had a boost in sales as Nationwide referenced it as the chorus seemed to reference one of their presenters, Sue Lawley.

Real music time.....a real sing-a-long song.....it's old, but gold.

Ahh, The Fall what a band, such a tragic end for Mark E.Smith, the only constant member of the band, John Peel once said "The Fall are the group against which all others must measure themselves", he was also one of about 200,000 that seen the famous Sex Pistols gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1976. Clashed with Tony Wilson, Peter Hook, Shaun Ryder and Morrissey who he would call Steven, was a devout Man.City fan but loved mavericks like George Best. His final performance and last appearance in public took place at the Queen Margaret Union, Glasgow, on 4 November 2017. Another show was scheduled for the Fiddlers, Bristol, on 29 November; Smith travelled to Bristol but was then too unwell to leave his hotel room. The other members of the group made a brief appearance on stage and apologised to the people who had come to see The Fall. He played, drank and smoked hard which played a part in his early death at only 60 years old, will be missed.

Apologies if I've posted this before. It's genius. The lyrics were written by Matt Johnson when he was 22 (twenty two). How can that be possible? "This is the Day" - could be Monday (well maybe later this week) for Gasheads who have waited so long. Nice write up about the song here: www.theguardian.com/music/2022/apr/25/how-the-the-made-this-is-the-dayI can't remember what was happening around June 2020 that was potentially good news. It obviously didn't happen!

This Is The Day.
Well you didn't wake up this morning 'cause you didn't go to bed You were watching the whites of your eyes turn red The calendar on your wall was ticking the days off You've been reading some old letters You smile and think how much you've changed All the money in the world couldn't buy back those days
You pull back the curtains And the sun burns into your eyes You watch a plane flying Across a clear blue sky This is the day, your life will surely change This is the day, when things fall into place
You could have done anything, if you wanted And all your friends and family think that you're lucky But the side of you they'll never see Is when you're left alone with your memories That hold your life together, like glue
You pull back the curtains And the sun burns into your eyes You watch a plane flying Across a clear blue sky This is the day, your life will surely change This is the day, when things fall into place
This is the day (This is the day) Your life will surely change (repeat X8)
