Got an e-newsletter from ar Char this afternoon. I think I'll stay on the mailing list for a while (I've only had a couple). I did start to get several mailshots from someone called Dolly (campaign manager?) though, but asked to be taken off that one, pointing out I wasn't one of her 'wonderful team', as she like to address them.
Anyway, at the top of the page it says 'Newsletter April 2014', but I guess they haven't updated it as Char begins with "Dear Friend, It's now September and I hope everyone in Bristol North West has enjoyed the summer".
It then goes on to list 9 topics where Charlotte has been 'Getting Stuff Done Locally'. The Rovers bit isn't really anything new, but I've copied the stuff of interest to us:
=== === PM discusses Rovers stadium deal
See video here.
Prime Minister David Cameron has told me that he hopes Sainsbury’s will now "press ahead" with their plans for a new store on the site of the Memorial Stadium.
Mr Cameron replied to me at Prime Minister’s Questions, and said that the "speedy completion" of the deal with Bristol Rovers – which will pave the way for the club’s new stadium at Stoke Gifford – was vital for jobs, business growth, homes and rail infrastructure as well as the sporting facilities.
The Prime Minister said he knew how passionately I felt about this "important development" and that he hoped Sainsbury’s would now press ahead with their plans.
Myself and Bristol's three other MPs wrote to Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King, telling him that with the delays already experienced by Rovers over their plans, it was crucial that any final details are now sorted out. === ===
Then another topic, which has implications for the UWE Stadium:
=== === Big boost for Henbury Loop
My campaign for a Henbury Loop Line took a huge step forward after £212.6 million was invested in Bristol area thanks to funding from the Government.
The line is seen as being an integral part of plans to improve rail links in the Bristol area and is was a fantastic first step.
I am delighted that the Henbury line is singled out. We now need to ensure we get a full loop, not a half-baked dead-end spur at Henbury, and we need the line open before a new town at Filton is built, not after.
That would be lunacy and deliberately inflict road-gridlock chaos on north Bristol residents and businesses.
A brilliant first step, now let’s go all the way. === ===

Thanks for your post, Mr. Concept. You pointed out that the newsletter was written in September, so it's remarkable for what it doesn't say.

So Sainsbury's are going to build the store as DC hopes they will "press ahead", hasn't CL read the B Post lately?

My sincere apologies to Messrs 'gas2' and 'GasMacc1' that my post doesn't meet your high standards. Perhaps I ought to PM you both with any thoughts I have for future threads so you can vet them first.
The reason I posted this was: 1/ You don't need to have a point. 2/ This is the first Charlotte Leslie has mentioned UWE Stadium for a few months and shows she is still behind it. 3/ The Henbury Loop line is something that has been talked about with the UWE Stadium being key to achieving. This states the first funding is in place, and Charlotte is pushing for the full loop to Filton.

Don'the get upset Concept. I would imagine all of us that signed the petition have received the newsletter. As pointed out, it is remarkable more for what it doesn't say. It is really a regurgitation of news from a couple of months ago. A generous reading would be that there is still support from the Leslie camp and a desire to reiterate the PM's implied pressure on Sainsburys. I also respect the repeat that there was a cross party call for Sainsburys to press ahead.

On points 1 and 3, I agree with you. In fact, I posted something similar about the Henbury Loop line on Jul 10, and why it was said to be dependent on the successful completion of the UWE stadium. (See the thread "Planning Documents"). On point 2, it looks like she is "behind it" in two ways: she supports it, but is not up to date. Her website still points to the campaign against TRASH. So my comment was not about your post - that's why I thanked you for posting it, 'cos it was interesting - but rather about the fact that CL could issue a newsletter in September which seems to be oblivious to the developments which has exercised us all since the 26th August (see thread "Rovers sue Sainsbury's"). I hope CL is still working hard behind the scenes to help clear the obstacles to the stadium.

The OP was right to post what they considered news from Charlotte, unfortunately it's a recent newsletter with old news.
That's because, excuse my language - Charlotte doesn't give a flying f**k about us, it's all been political, she's an upcoming Tory looking for media coverage and popularity, and if she did want a supermarket built it was for one reason - Sainsbury's not us. All political leaders need the supermarkets pat on the back, it wouldn't surprise me that Cameron asked her to get involved. Cause this Shining light called Leslie hadn't ever been seen championing Bristol Sporting Clubs Before, and since Sainsbury's started getting cold feet a few months ago, not a word has come from her.
She's a politician, she'll do what helps her gain power and she'll do what shes told by the people who can get her that power.

It is difficult sometimes with print form - I'm sure a lot of my stuff is misunderstood. From what you go on to say it seems we agree on all 3. I seem to have gone in a circle on this one ... and I'll admit that with my cynical side I've been struggling to suppress the points JtS raises, and as time goes on it just gets more difficult to do that.

Jon I appreciate what you are saying but would you rather she did nothing at all? At least it keeps it in the headlines and in the media. For all of their self seeking profit making supermarkets are still sensitive to media attention.

I think his point is that as a constituency MP she has done more in my lifetime than any other Bristol North West MP and is an excellent reason to vote for her at the next election.

Fully appreciate your point mate, but frankly since the Sainsbury's court case raised it's head that's exactly what she's done - Nothing at all! And i can pretty much promise you she will not go media mad up against Sainsbury's. Months ago she helped us which in turn was helping them, now it seems it's just for us she's gone very quiet. IMO

After all the matter is in the hands of the lawyers now, and both BRFC and Sainsbury's are making no public comment whatsoever, so I ask again what would you have her do? Perhaps she is working behind the scene, but even if that were the case she could say nothing in the public domain for obvious reasons. All things considered she has done a fair bit for the club, and also other interested parties as well, so I think that it's a little harsh to criticise her now. After all none of this mess is of her making.

Fully respect your points though mate, and you may be the one who's right here. By the way, thanks for replying with respect, goes a long way i think. UTG

Saw her on Southmead Road today, just before the road closed for Bradley Wiggins and co to ride through. Could not resist calling out of the car window and saying "where's your bike Charlotte". She laughed.
