I have mentioned it in previous threads. We continue to ignore the divide in the share of the world economy at our peril. We see one of the outcomes made clear in the people turning up on our shores. They are not just strife driven refugees they are also economic refugees. However it must be recognised that economic stress is usually the cause of strife. From Project Syndicate, and Kenneth Rogoff "To be sure, there is a strong case for strengthening social safety nets in developed countries, especially when it comes to education and health care. From a moral standpoint, though, it remains highly debatable whether this outweighs the urgent need to address the plight of the 700 million people around the world living in extreme poverty." Indeed. Whilst the western democracies (cough) look to blame everyone but their own policies for the stresses that have come into sharp relief since the fraud induced financial markets collapse of 2008, the politics they argue appears trapped into narrow tramlines of ignorance and growing extreme politics. Personified by the stupidity of people like Trump in the USA who appears to believe running a diverse economy and devising policies on the domestic agenda that represents a diverse population is akin to running a Real Estate brokerage in the Bronx, to Social Democratic parties in Europe boxed in by Trump style power hungry idiots promising fake solutions. There was no point as there wasn't anything for them to spend the money on! We were told to tip them with pencils, pens, protractors, rubbers etc. They would then pass these on to the local schools. The method they had chosen to rebuild the country, and it's people, was through education. This would take time obviously, but it was the best way forward. Giving the people money was no use at all. In many ways you can extrapolate this from local people to the whole country. You cannot raise 700 million people out of poverty by giving them money. Education is the way forward.

Of course, nobody is going to argue that, but education alone won't do it. Not without infrastructure, a viable health system and economic growth.

Almost worked in Moldova too. Final round of voting has been completed in Moldova, and despite some serious allegations of 'vote buying' by Russian backed persons the pro Europe leader Maia Sandu has won the election with a 55% majority vote over the Pro Russia group leader Alexandr Stoinaglo....bit of relief from Euro leaders, Von Der lyen forwarding her congratulations to Ms Sandu
