I remember a long conversation with the former Rovers manager Bobby Campbell when he was manager at Gloucester City in the Conference, and my cousin was playing there. His view was that once a player started being paid they reacted very differently to playing. Some, he said, like my cousin didn't need motivating, but he said for a lot of players it became just about the money and as they got a basic, irrespective of results, an additional win bonus didn't necessarily drive them to perform. He reckoned that was the manager's job hence his views on the success of the likes of Shankly. With the amount of money the players earn today in the League that is even more important. If MT isn't motivating them then there must be a disconnect or they aren't listening. Hence some may be be moving on..... I recall being sent by my club to Rovers to get some physio from Bobby Campbell (it was the sort of thing professional clubs did for the community back in the day). Rovers were struggling in the then Second Division (now Championship). In the chit-chat during the treatment, I had the audacity to suggest we'd be better off back in the 3rd Division. In his thick Scottish accent he told me, in no uncertain terms, that I was stupid to suggest such a thing and that every club should aspire to play at the highest level possible. I was taken aback at the time and left the room rather sheepishly. He was of course absolutely right and it's something that has stuck with me for years leaving me with fond memories of Bobby.

How long a contract is MT on and hence how much will it cost to get rid of him? Then I guess new players in January to replace whatever we get rid of. More and more money being haemorrhaged it seems, does anyone know how deep our owners' pockets are or how much they're prepared to lose, or how committed they really are to the club. Can see it all ending badly in the not too distant future.

My view is that it should occur now, it's not working under him. As for the owners, well they have invested very heavily on players, so I guess they are in it for the long term. Alot will be known once the redevelopment of the mem is announced and finished.

The last two league results have brought him some breathing space and toned down the Cassandras, although not muted them entirely.
I think December, possibly Christmas, is the earliest that that the board would/should begin to consider his position.
However, he needs to be made aware, if he isn't already, that he has spent a substantial, and indeed unprecedented, amount of money, and that this has created additional expectations that will weigh down on him in the event of continued poor performances/results.

I would have kinda agreed if it wasn't for the Swindon result. OK, it's the worthlessness competition now.But to lose one of your rivals, 4-0 from a level below is shocking, and tells me not all is well. I love the gas, but got not clue who we are playing Saturday due to being that disinterested currently. But that result is will be telling.

TBH, I've always disregarded cup competitions as an indication of where the club is heading. We've some good runs (QF of FA cup under Trollope, final of JPT under Trollope/Lawrence) but also some shocking defeats against non-league opposition.
I think the board made a mistake sacking JB when they did (not necessarily in sacking JB) last season, and would be foolish to consider sacking somebody so early in the season again.
We need to remember it's a young side and there is no continuity from the previous season.

We should definitely perservere. Both managers and squads can become stronger when dealing and responding to challenges. Give the manager the ability to solve any problems with personnel or tactics - we're playing the long game here.

Cassandra told the truth. She was granted the gift of prophesy, but was fated not to be believed. We`ll probably never know her opinion on Matt Taylor, but I`m sure it would have divided this forum.
