Match report by Sam Drury, BBC Sport journalist at Utilita BowlA new-look England side slumped to a 28-run defeat by Australia in the first T20 international at Utilita Bowl. Australia made a blistering start, with Travis Head smashing 59 from 23 balls as he and opening partner Matthew Short put on 86 in the first six overs. But England, who handed T20 debuts to three players and were captained by Phil Salt for the first time, produced a superb fightback to bowl the tourists out for 179. The spinners led the way, with Liam Livingstone taking 3-22 and Adil Rashid impressive for his 1-23, while seamers Jofra Archer and Saqib Mahmood claimed two wickets apiece. However, England's chase was in trouble early as three wickets went down in the powerplay. Livingstone and Sam Curran gave them hope with a 54-run stand for the fifth wicket but when they departed in quick succession, England's long tail was exposed and they were bowled out for 151 in the final over. The teams will now head to Cardiff for the second T20 on Friday before the three-match series concludes at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Match report by Sam Drury, BBC Sport journalist at Sophia GardensLiam Livingstone smashed a superb 87 from 47 balls to lead England to a series-levelling three-wicket win over Australia in the second T20. The big-hitting all-rounder marked his 50th T20 international appearance in style as he took 2-16 with the ball before bludgeoning six fours and five sixes in making just his second T20I half-century. Livingstone put on 90 with Jacob Bethell, in just his second international game, as England chased down 194 with six balls to spare in Cardiff. Bethell played second-fiddle to Livingstone early on but exploded into life as he took talismanic Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa for 20 in an over during an eye-catching knock of 44 from 24 balls. There was a slight wobble after Bethell was dismissed but Livingstone settled it down, falling only when the scores were level, as part-time spinner Matthew Short took a remarkable 5-22. Jake Fraser-McGurk was the standout for Australia with the bat, hitting his maiden international fifty, with Josh Inglis adding 42 as the visitors posted a challenging 193-6. But England were up to the task, equalling the highest successful T20 chase at Sophia Gardens and setting a new T20 international record to set up a decider at Old Trafford on Sunday. England captain Phil Salt: "What Liam did was incredible, we all know he is capable of that. "To see Bethell to come out to play the way he did, not just the skill but the way he paced it and took probably their best bowler down, I was really impressed." Australia captain Travis Head: "We were right in the hunt and we were close. "You go with your gut and your game plan, we'll sit down but you play your best and sometimes it doesn't come off." Player of the match, England batter Liam Livingstone: "Towards the end of The Hundred I felt I was getting my body back to normal, which is a thing that has bothered me the last couple of years. "It has taught me a few life lessons but I am enjoying my cricket and playing with a smile on my face."

Sunday 15th September - 3rd International Twenty20 Match - Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester.
England v Australia - Result: Match Abandoned without a ball bowled
Sam Drury, BBC Sport journalist at Old Trafford
England and Australia's T20 series ended in a draw after the third match at Old Trafford was washed out.
Heavy rain throughout the day in Manchester prevented any play and the series ends 1-1.
Australia won the first T20 comfortably in Southampton, with Travis Head hitting a rapid half-century.
Liam Livingstone's superb knock of 87 then took England to victory in the second match in Cardiff.
But the weather ensured there would be no chance of a decider with the umpires officially abandoning the match at 4.15pm
The teams will now head to Nottingham for the start of the five-match one-day international series, which begins on Thursday, 19th September.
England will again be without Jos Buttler for the ODIs. The white-ball skipper is still recovering from a right calf injury that ruled him out of the T20s and The Hundred.

Australia - 317-3 (44 overs) Head 154 not out, Labuschagne 77 not out, Smith 32, Green 32, Bethell 1-20

Match report by Sam Drury, BBC Sport journalist at Trent BridgeTravis Head scored a stunning unbeaten 154 as Australia claimed a convincing seven-wicket win over England in the first one-day international at Trent Bridge. After England had collapsed from 213-2 to 315 all out, Head's magnificent innings helped Australia to knock off the runs with 36 balls to spare. The 30-year-old opener put on an unbroken 148 with Marnus Labuschagne as he made the top ODI score by an Australia batter in England, to take the tourists to their highest successful ODI chase in England. A comprehensive victory extends the world champions' winning streak in ODIs to 13 as they took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. England were in a good position to put that unbeaten run under threat thanks to a fine knock of 95 from opener Ben Duckett and Will Jacks' third ODI half-century, but crumbled late in the innings. Part-time spinner Labuschagne had Duckett caught and bowled just shy of his hundred then removed Harry Brook, captaining England for the first time, in his next over to start the hosts' slide. Labuschagne and Adam Zampa, in his 100th ODI, took three wickets apiece as Australia bowled only spin for the last 18 overs of the innings and England's innings unravelled. Jacob Bethell gave another glimpse of his talent with a handy 35 to take the home side beyond 300 but they finished a long way short of what they would have wanted on a famously high-scoring ground. Head had a moment of luck when he was dropped by Brydon Carse on six, albeit it would have been a stunning one-handed catch, but never looked back as he powered his way to a fantastic sixth ODI ton and Australia cruised to victory. England will attempt to level the series in the second game at Headingley on Saturday.

Match report by Matthew Henry, BBC Sport Journalist at HeadingleyEngland fell 2-0 down in the one-day international series against Australia as their batting wilted in the second match at Headingley. Having dismissed the tourists for 270, England's top order was blown away by Australia's high-class pace-bowling attack in a comprehensive 68-run defeat. Will Jacks and Liam Livingstone made first-ball ducks and Harry Brook only four in his second match as England's stand-in captain. Youngsters Jamie Smith and Jacob Bethell attempted a rebuild from 65-5 until Bethell looped a catch to depart for 25. Smith continued to 49 but clipped Josh Hazlewood, who was superb alongside fellow returning quick Mitchell Starc, to mid-wicket and England were seven down still 112 adrift. Adil Rashid and Brydon Carse prolonged the game with 27 and 26 respectively, but by the time the hosts were bowled out for 202 many in the stands had already gone home. Australia were grateful for Alex Carey's 74, which dragged them from 161-6 to what proved a competitive, if chaseable, total. Carey, having been booed to the crease for his role in last summer's Ashes stumping of Jonny Bairstow, crucially put on 49 with Hazlewood. Australia can now clinch the five-match series with victory in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/21/18/89945855-0-image-a-18_1726940945815.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/09/21/18/89945751-0-image-a-1_1726940562870.jpg

Match report by Matthew Henry, BBC Sport Journalist at Chester-le-StreetCaptain Harry Brook hit a superb first one-day international century as England beat Australia in the third match to breathe life into their new era of white-ball cricket. Chasing 305 knowing defeat would give Australia the series, stand-in skipper Brook hit 110 not out to guide his side to a 46-run victory via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method. England were 254-4, on course for victory needing 51 runs from 74 balls, when rain curtailed the finish in Chester-le-Street. Such a scenario looked distant when England were 11-2, the pressure on after heavy defeats in the previous two matches, but Brook started carefully and compiled a perfectly-paced knock with 13 fours and two sixes. He put on 156 with Will Jacks and when Jacks fell for an elegant 84 from 82, Brook went on to reach his century in 87 balls. A cameo from Liam Livingstone, who hit 33 from 20, ensured England were well ahead of the DLS par score of 208 when the rain arrived. Brookâs knock meant England did not a rue a poor end to their bowling innings that allowed Australia to post 304-7. The hosts can now level the five-match series at 2-2 in the fourth ODI at Lord's on Friday.

Match report by Sam Drury, BBC Sport journalist at Lord'sEngland showed their firepower with bat and ball as they levelled the one-day international series with a 186-run thrashing of Australia in a rain-shortened match at Lord's. Stand-in captain Harry Brook scored a magnificent 87 from 58 balls, while Ben Duckett also made a half-century before Liam Livingstone's blistering unbeaten 62 from 27 balls took the home side to a formidable 312-5 from 39 overs. Livingstone hit seven sixes, with four of them coming as he took 28 off the last over of the innings from Mitchell Starc. That late onslaught gave Livingstone a 25-ball fifty, the fastest in an ODI at Lord's, while England's 12 maximums is a new record in an ODI at the home of cricket. Australia made a fast start in the chase but three wickets in four overs, including both openers, halted the momentum and England seized control. The tourists crumbled from 68-0 to 126 all out in 24.4 overs, with Matthew Potts excellent in taking 4-38. Brydon Carse had bowled Travis Head to get things started and the 29-year-old fast bowler ended with figures of 3-36, while Jofra Archer claimed 2-33. It was left to Adil Rashid to wrap things up as England claimed their second largest ODI victory by runs over Australia. After losing the first two matches of the series, this new-look England side have battled back to force a decider in Bristol on Sunday.

I`ve never had much luck with big games, here in Bristol. Usually arrive to find Noah`s Ark blocking the turnstiles.

Australia win by 49 runs (DLS Method)
Match report by Matthew Henry, BBC Sport journalist in Bristol
England's bid for a comeback series victory against Australia fell short as the tourists beat the rain in Bristol to win the deciding fifth one-day international.
The hosts, having come from 2-0 down to level the series, posted 309 after being put into bat with Ben Duckett scoring 107 - his second ODI century - and captain Harry Brook 72.
But that was a disappointing total given a rampant start which took England to 202-2 inside 25 overs.
Brook's dismissal began a familiar collapse as eight wickets fell for 107 runs - all of them to spin - and his side were dismissed in their final over.
Australia were similarly aggressive at the start of their chase, openers Travis Head and Matt Short flogging 78 from the first seven overs.
Head was caught at extra cover for 31 and Short nicked behind on 58 but their onslaught had put Australia well ahead of the game with rain clouds looming.
The match threatened to end in farcical fashion with England attempting to slow proceedings and ensure the 20 overs needed for a contest were not bowled in time.
That would have meant no result and a drawn series but, with Steve Smith having nudged 36 not out to keep Australia ahead of the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern target, the rain arrived four balls into the 21st over.
At that stage Australia were 165-2, 49 runs ahead of the par score, and the players did not return - with the tourists winning the series 3-2.
England's attention now turns to a three-match Test series in Pakistan with seven of this party flying out on Tuesday.
The series opener begins in Multan on Monday, 7th October.

I was at the game on Sunday at the County Ground. These are a few points I picked up on. Getting any food or drink was an absolute nightmare. There are just not enough places. In this day and age I don't think queuing for 45 minutes to get a coffee is unacceptable. They need more outlets, a lot more. A group of guys in front of me sent one of their mob to get six beers. He came back with the beer 55 minutes later! It was a sell-out crowd, so to have just the single van selling burgers/chips etc and a single van selling coffee was a predictable nightmare. Not good enough for an International event I'm afraid. The Glos merchandizing shop was not very good. Hardly any products on sale. A bumper crowd should have been a marketing heaven for the County. The seating space was tiny. Far too small. Toilet facilities were good. Lot's of units with minimal queuing time. I was disappointed in that there was only one big screen to show info and replays. This needs to be addressed. They need a bigger scoreboard. The one they have is too small.
I really enjoyed the day, but it can, and should be, a much better match-day experience.
