Striker Gatlin O'Donkor joins Rovers on a season-long loan move from Championship side Oxford United age 19. Will add to the squad.
Gatlin Teye O'Donkor (born 14 October 2004) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for EFL Championship Oxford United
O'Donkor set the record for the youngest ever Oxford United player at the age of 16 years and 55 days when he made his debut on 8 December 2020 in an EFL Trophy tie against Forest Green Rovers. After the match was drawn 1–1, he scored Oxford United's opening penalty in the penalty shoot-out as they won 4–1 on penalties.
On 5 March 2022, O'Donkor joined National League South side Oxford City on an initial one-month loan deal] He made his debut that day, scoring the third in a 5–0 defeat of Tonbridge Angels.He returned to his parent club and made his league debut for Oxford United as a second-half substitute in the last game of the 2021–22 season, a 1–1 draw with Doncaster Rovers, on 30 April 2022.He signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2022.His first senior start came in a 2nd-round EFL Cup defeat to Crystal Palace on 23 August 2022,and his first League start in a 2–1 home victory over Burton Albion on 3 September 2022.He scored his first senior goal for the club having come on as a half-time substitute in a League One fixture against Fleetwood Town on 1 November 2022; the game ended in a 1–1 draw.
On 9 February 2024, O'Donkor joined Barnet on loan until the end of the season.

Welcome aboard Gatlin, I'm sure you'll fire well in the quarters. That said, us taking a player on loan from Oxford just doesn't sit right with me. The two goals in 50 games is more of a concern for me. The 5 in 13 at Barnet offers mild encouragement but nothing more. This has shades of Elvis Hammond in the relegation under Thompson, the same one that a former chairman has claimed the club has never recovered from. Think back... We pinned our hopes that season on the underwhelming Christian Lee having sold the all-conquering Roberts and Cureton the previous season. Relegation duly followed. We were relegated under Barton because Tisdale spent most of the transfer window chasing the mediocre Jayden Stockley and returned triumphantly clutching the sub-mediocre full-back George Williams. No coincidence that he had previously managed both. We were relegated in the conference season because we let Elliot Richards go and replaced him, and then the crocked Scot Gow, with Chris Beardsley and Kaid Mohammed. Previously, we only stayed in the football league because we brought in Andy Rammel, an experienced striker who was exactly what we needed to keep us up. And so on...each of our recent relegations has been due to having no goals in the side, not a poor defence. The only exception might be the Trollope/Penney/Campbell season, when we did have a very leaky defence and also Hoskins upfront. However, this was an anomaly as we were largely relegated due to off-field issues, as Higgs duly recognised by pledging that some of the players would never play for the club again. In the conference relegation season we had one of the best defensive records in the league. |

His total career stats are: Age: 43, Played: 368, Goals: 81 for 12 different clubs and Ghana.
He was subsequently jailed for his role in an international money laundering scam.

Have you seen Eddie Nketiah's stats? He is 25-years-old, and has played 133 games, scoring 22 goals. This is seriously bad. On average, he is less prolific than Hammond, albeit in higher leagues. He has just been transferred to Palace for 30m, and has represented England. Was it Hammond who missed that chance against Wigan that would have kept us up? |

Another infamous no goals for Gas striker was Justin Richards signed from West Brom by Ollie for £75K.
I remember an away game at Mansfield where Richards spurned a number of good chances and the chant of 'Justin for England' ironically echoed around the away end.
Lets hope O'Donkor isn't another plonker

No disrespect to anyone or anything but I honestly thought we could do o better in 2 transfer windows.
We have to replace Evans and Collins goals, engine, vitality and creativity.
I just don't see it yet.

Lets hope O'Donkor isn't another plonker Richards is one I may have persevered with. Roberts was very complimentary about him. Later signed by Peterborough after pretty impressive form in the conference. Didn't work out there but they know a thing or two about potential and developing strikers. Once players get past 23, you just have to be more ruthless - only God and Darrell Clarke know why we persisted with Luke James after 0 goals in 24 games. |

Whomever was our scout at the time must have been having a laugh.

Just realised it was Ansah Owusu who missed that chance against Wigan. No goals in 17 appearances.
Did we really pin our L1 survival hopes on the unholy trinity of Owusu, Hammond and Lee?
This was also the season in which Moussa Dagnogo graced us with his presence? I remember a game against Swindon where he appeared to be pursuing some kind of personal vendetta against the offside rule.

The interesting thing about that relegated 2000/01 side is that it was basically the same team, with the exception of Cureton, Roberts, and I think Tillson, that finished seventh the season before. |
