You got to laugh, Pop Up. Nobody is shouting and screaming about deleting their accounts on social media platforms except those shouting and screaming about people's choice of viewpoints. Guardian leaves X, so what? Nobody cares. Apart from the Trumpian types. Some strange organisation that has something to do with Clifton Suspension Bridge, leaves X, who gives a rats ass? Who knew they even existed. Just the Trumpian types who, incapable of arguing a single coherent point and clearly feel threatened, (not physically of course) shout loud and long to avoid any substantive point, because they cannot argue it. The barbarians are at the gate. Trumpian types - that's a good one. 👍 Why am I threatened? Trump won...? It's the likes of the Guardian , and The suspension bridge lefties, and all those stupid woman that are shaving their heads and putting dick tape over their fanny's that are shouting. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy. You make my point

The barbarians are at the gate. You're mistaken Oldie. The "barbarians",those that threaten our very civilisation are already through the gate. They detest Jewish people. They detest gay people. They hate much of British culture. Don't want women to have a job. Etc. They are indoctrinated in the 7th century ,the barbaric chapters of the Quran. They got through the gates a while ago,in a large part thanks to traitors lowering the drawbridge. Don't make me laugh. You have never read the Qur'an.

I predicted Default would win,I voted Reform and knew they never were going to get in. Not sure I lost here. The country did. Yeah, because the country was doing great under the tories. Reform might want to remove their far right connections and staff before they have any hope. Or get an actual leader rather than a blowhard

I can only think of Biden in 2020,but that did make a difference as in 2024 as Trump won, as Americans woken up by the radical lefts behaviour.

A reluctant new landlady has crossed Bristol's red-blue divide to bring a favourite Rovers pub back to its best..By Tristan CorkChief Reporter
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9716288.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/1_BRI_PG_141124forester-136.jpg Landlady Tanya Long at the Foresters Arms in Ashley Down, BristolNestling in the Victorian terraced streets between Muller Road and Gloucester Road, the Foresters Arms has been at the heart of the community in Ashley Down for much more than a century. But the last few years have been a troubled time for the community pub, on the corner of Bromley Road and the main Ashley Down Road. In 2017, the pub closed and since 2019, there has been a succession of pub companies and landlords, attempts at re-launches and what proved to be false dawns. But now, finally, the pub in the heart of Bristol Rovers country has a bright future, thanks to an initially reluctant new landlady in charge. Tanya Long admitted she had to be persuaded to take on the Foresters, and only agreed on the basis it would be on a three-month trial period. She is well known in the pub trade in Bristol - mainly south of the river - after spells running the social club at the Filwood Community Centre, and as the assistant manager of both the White Hart in Bedminster and the Rising Sun right next to Ashton Gate. Now, after learning the craft from Paula Dullaghan at the White Hart, she’s swapped the red half of the city for the blue half, and taken on a pub of her own for the very first time. Tanya said she was determined to reinstate the pub at the heart of the community. “I think it was about getting the pub back to the kind of standards people expect of their local pub,” she said. “We got the pub cleaned and spruced up, and it was about asking the regulars and the local people what they wanted from their local pub.” One of the things was reinstating the Foresters Arms as a proper Rovers pub, allowing the fans for whom a pint or three in the Foresters has long been an integral part of their matchday experience, to reclaim the space as their own. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9716293.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/1_BRI_PG_141124forester-26.jpgThe Foresters Arms in Ashley Down has this stunning work of art by Bristol legend Inkie inside“It’s just been so nice. People said they wanted it to feel more of a Rovers pub again, so people brought in loads of stuff to put on the walls, signed photos and things. They love it, because it’s their space. People say it feels like it’s back to the pub they knew a few years ago,” added Tanya. And the word that the Foresters was ‘back’ has certainly spread - both around the Rovers fanbase and around the local community in Ashley Down and Horfield. Business has tripled since Tanya took over on the last weekend of August, and she’s already won awards within the pub company for the incredible turnaround. “It’s a Rovers pub, but it’s not a football pub as such - the football is only every week or every other week,” said Tanya. “Some of the customers have been coming here 40 years, and it’s lovely to hear them say they appreciate how it’s changed.” Coming from the nearest pub to Bristol City’s ground to one of the closest to Rovers’ Memorial Stadium - those historic gates are less than a ten minute walk away - Tanya has had a bit of banter from the fans, but she claims no allegiance. “If I’m honest, I find it a lot more community-based, the Rovers fans. It’s nice,” she said. She’s fallen in love with the place - a pub whose turnaround challenge she initially didn’t want to take on - and even before the three month trial period is over, she’s agreed to become the permanent landlady, much to the customers’ joy. Now, things are getting set for Christmas, and a huge festive lights display is already up, and being added to all the time. The display is raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease charity. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9716286.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/1_BRI_PG_141124forester-38.jpgThe Foresters Arms in Ashley Down

Good point... Corbyn as prime minister would have been worse than Starmer. I'm going off to dye my one ginger pube to distract myself of that thought.

Murder suspect arrested 57 years after Bristol woman's death, Louisa Dunne was strangled in 1967..Report by Shannon BrownReporter
i2-prod.plymouthherald.co.uk/incoming/article9726295.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_Louisa-Dunne.jpg A 92-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering Louisa Dunne in BristolAn arrest has been made in the 57-year-old murder investigation of Louisa Dunne in Bristol. The 75-year-old, who was also known as Louise, was found dead in her Britannia Road home in Easton by a neighbour on Wednesday, June 28, 1967. The cause of her death was determined to be strangulation and asphyxiation. She had also been raped. Today, Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, a 92-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested by Avon and Somerset Police on suspicion of murder and rape. He’s been taken into custody for questioning. The force said the arrest comes after a "significant development" in the 57-year-long investigation resulting from a case review in 2023. The review included further forensic examination of items relating to this case. Detective Inspector Dave Marchant said: “This is an extremely significant moment in an appalling and distressing case which has remained unsolved for almost six decades. “We’ve identified and spoken to Louisa Dunne’s next of kin to update them on this development and specialist family liaison officers will now be supporting them to keep them updated on the progress of our investigation but also to ensure they get access to any specialist support they may need. “An arrest was made earlier today by officers from Avon and Somerset Police and there will be operational police activity in the Ipswich area as a result. We’d like to thank our colleagues in Suffolk Police for their ongoing help and support. “We recognise this will also come as a shock to the community in Easton. While this tragic incident happened a long time ago, there will be people who remember what happened and may have had a connection with Louisa through family or friends. The Neighbourhood Policing Team are carrying out patrols of the area, so please speak to an officer if you have any worries or concerns. “As this investigation is at a critical phase and to protect the integrity of any future criminal proceedings, we won’t be able to confirm the full details, but we are absolutely committed to continue carrying out a thorough investigation to try and bring Louisa’s relatives the answers they’ve waited a lifetime for.”

Bristol Christmas lights display celebrating its 30th anniversary, The official switch-on will take place on November 30th this year..By Ellie KendallReporter
i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article7891984.ece/ALTERNATES/s810/0_brothers-behind-926236.jpg Lee Brailsford outside the display in 2022An iconic Bristol Christmas lights display is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, continuing to raise money for charity. So far, the Brailsford Lights in Trevisa Grove, Brentry, has raised more than £110,818 for the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal at Bristol Children's Hospital. This year will see the lights, set up by two brothers, switched on on November 30th, with the spectacle remaining until January 2nd, 2025. Lights will be on between 5-9pm each night, though there are also special event evenings taking place across the festive period - these include raffles, hot chocolates, a cookie cabin, and snow machine, on selected dates, and even the chance to see Santa on Christmas Eve. This year three of the Brailsford family are at the helm of the lights display - Lee Brailsford (43), Paul Brailsford (40), and Jordan Brailsford (22). The Brailsford Christmas lights display started one Boxing Day back in 1994, the family says, after a visit to B&Q where the brothers (then teenagers) discovered a large selection of Christmas lights for half price in the sale. After buying a single light-up Christmas tree, every year the family have invested in more and more lights, keeping them in the atti***til they outgrew the space. On the official Brailsford Lights website, the family writes: "We imported the life-size nativity from America and we had to get it over two years because it cost so much - the first year we got the main parts i.e. Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus and the three wise men, the next year we got the camel, shepherd, two sheep and the angel. "We made a nice stage for the stable and, as we are carpenters, it's quite easy to make things we need to set a good scene." i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article4752941.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/1_RM_BRI_011220brailsfordlights_47jpeg.jpgThe Brailsford family have been bringing Christmas cheer to Brentry since 1994The brothers went on to say: "When we left home and got our own houses and families, our mum said we should split the lights half each. But the following Christmas the neighbours were asking 'when are you starting your Christmas lights?' "We didn’t like to say that we were not doing them anymore as we now had our own houses, so we just carried on doing the lights every year at mum's. As the lights display got bigger, we moved on to other parts of the house - the roof, garage and now even the garden. It takes a lot of setting up and that’s why we start in October." As public interest in the display continued to grow, the family thought it would be a good opportunity to raise some money for local charities. They got in touch with Southmead hospital and decided to support the 'Tiny Lives Campaign' until the campaign ended. Since then, they've been supporting the Wallace & Gromit Grand Appeal at Bristol Children's Hospital. In 2007 they raised £1,566.12 for the Cots For Tots Campaign as part of the Grand Appeal, and they have since reached more than £110,000 for the charity overall. In the past, the display has attracted tens of thousands of people throughout the festive season, with Friday and Saturday nights usually being the busiest times. People come from across Bristol and the South West to see the display - over the years, some have even travelled from as far away as Scotland to see the illuminations in person. People can donate online via the JustGiving page or to donate £5 text 5lights, £10 10lights or £20 20lights to 70450. For updates, including regular sneak peeks of the lights being set up, you can follow the Brailsford Christmas Lights Display on Facebook... some links are below.www.brailsfordlights.co.uk/www.grandappeal.org.uk/www.brailsfordlights.co.uk/setting-up-2024/
