Wedenesday 9th October 2024 - Venue: Dubai International Stadium, Dubai
Group B: South Africa v Scotland - South Africa Women won the toss and decided to bat
South Africa - 166-5 (20 overs) Brits 43, Kapp 43, Wolvaardt 40, KE Bryce 1-31
Scotland - 86 all out (17.5 overs) Fraser 14, Lister 12, Extras 11, Mlaba 3-12
South Africa Women win by 80 runs
Match report by Timothy Abraham, BBC Sport JournalistScotland’s faint hopes of progressing to the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup were extinguished after a crushing a 80-run defeat by South Africa in Dubai. Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits and Marizanne Kapp all made scores in the forties to help South Africa post 166-5 – the highest score in the tournament so far. Five Scotland bowlers picked up one wicket apiece, with captain Kathryn Bryce arguably the most impressive as she showed resilience and control at the death to claim 1-31. Scotland, an Associate member playing in their first World Cup, struggled against South Africa's spinners as they were bowled out for 86 in response. Katherine Fraser top scored for Scotland with 14, and was one of only two players into double figures with the bat, as Nonkululeko Mlaba took 3-12. South Africa moved top of Group A on four points – level with second-place England but ahead of them on net run-rate having played a game more – while winless Scotland remain bottom. The margin of victory also ensured the Proteas have a superior net run-rate to third-placed West Indies, with two teams from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. Scotland face England in their final pool match in Sharjah on Sunday, while South Africa face Bangladesh in Dubai on Saturday.

Wedenesday 9th October 2024 - Venue: Dubai International Stadium, Dubai
Group A: India v Sri Lanka - India Women won the toss and decided to bat
India - 172-3 (20 overs) Kaur 52 not out, Mandhana 50, Verma 43, Kanchana 1-29
Sri Lanka - 90 all out (19.5 overs) Dilhari 21, Sanjeewani 20, Reddy 3-19, Sobhana 3-19
India Women win by 82 runs
Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport JournalistIndia produced a stunning all-round performance to boost their semi-final hopes and knock Sri Lanka out of the Women's T20 World Cup. Set an imposing 173 to win in Dubai, Sri Lanka slumped to 6-3 and then crawled to 90 all out in 19.5 overs as India secured a ruthless 82-run victory. Opener Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur struck fine half-centuries as India posted 172-3 - the highest team total of the tournament so far. Kaur was dropped on 22 and brutally punished a weary Sri Lanka, finishing unbeaten on 52 from 27 balls. The match-winning total was set up by Smriti's 36-ball fifty in a chanceless opening stand of 98 with Shafali Verma, who made 43. Sri Lanka's slim hopes of victory lay on the shoulders of star all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu, but they suffered a horror start with the captain falling for just one after fellow opener Vishmi Gunaratne was brilliantly caught by Radha Yadav from the second ball of the chase. India continued to thoroughly outclass their opponents in all aspects of the game, bowling with relentless discipline and taking every opportunity in the field as leg-spinner Asha Sobhana and all-rounder Arundhati Reddy both claimed 3-19. India are up to second in Group A and their margin of victory also boosts their net run-rate after an opening heavy defeat by New Zealand, but they still have defending champions Australia to play on Sunday as they seek a top-two finish. Winless Sri Lanka remain bottom and will hope to end their campaign on a high when they face New Zealand on Saturday.

Match report by Joe Rindl, BBC Sport journalistWest Indies starred with the bat as they boosted their T20 World Cup semi-final hopes with a clinical eight-wicket win to all but eliminate Bangladesh. Led by captain Hayley Matthews' fluent 34 off 22 balls, West Indies easily chased down 104 with 7.1 overs to spare. With the ball, Windies spinner Karishma Ramharack took 4-17 and sparked a Bangladesh collapse from 73-2 to 103-8. Victory improved West Indies' net run-rate and moved them top of Group B on four points, level with South Africa and England - with the latter having played one game fewer. West Indies will give themselves a strong chance of reaching the final four if they beat England in their last group match on Tuesday. Bangladesh need to beat South Africa by a substantial margin in their final group game on Saturday and hope other results go their way.

Group A: Australia v Pakistan - Australia Women won the toss and decided to field
Pakistan - 82 all out (19.5 overs) Aliya Riaz 26, Sidra Ameen 12, Iram Javed 12, Gardner 4-21
Australia 83-1 (11 overs) Healy 37 ret hurt, Mooney 15, Perry 22 not out, Gardner 7 not out
Australia Women win by 9 wicketsToo easy in the end. Ellyse Perry chips over the inner circle for another single and that's enough for a comprehensive Australia win. Very comprehensive from Australia and very professional as they thrash Pakistan. They were good with the ball, good in the field and excellent with the bat. Captain Alyssa Healy retires hurt with apparent leg injury

Match report by Tom Rostance, BBC Sport journalistNew Zealand kept their pursuit of a Women's T20 World Cup semi-final berth alive with victory over already-eliminated Sri Lanka in the heat of daytime Sharjah. Set a target of 116 to win, New Zealand comfortably chased it down in 17.3 overs but may rue not having the power and positivity to get the job done sooner. New Zealand’s inferior net run-rate remains a potential barrier to their progression ahead of India after they were unable to accelerate quickly enough to a potentially decisive victory. Opener Georgia Plimmer and all-rounder Amelia Kerr took a while to get going but batted beautifully in a partnership of 46. Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu found form for the first time in a disappointing tournament to score 35 from 41 balls but her side's threat left with her. Sri Lanka did at least reach triple figures for the first time in their four matches but were unable to create chances with the ball in punishing temperatures touching 39C. New Zealand remain third in Group A behind Australia and India, while winless Sri Lanka stay bottom.

ss-i.thgim.com/public/incoming/on6nnq/article68747034.ece/alternates/LANDSCAPE_1200/2177355741.jpg Tazmin Brits scored 42 against Bangladesh during the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Match report by Timothy Abraham, BBC Sport JournalistTazmin Brits hit 42 as South Africa clinched a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh but now face a nervous wait to see if they will qualify for the Women's T20 World Cup semi-finals. South Africa moved top of Group B but were unable to overhaul West Indies' net run rate (NRR) as they chased down a modest target of 107 with 16 balls to spare. In fact the Proteas' NRR actually decreased to +1.382, which is lower than West Indies' current rate of +1.708. It means South Africa realistically need England, who face Scotland on Sunday, to beat West Indies on Tuesday to finish as runners-up. Or, less likely, for England to lose both their remaining matches. South Africa lost in-form captain Laura Wolvaardt early on in their reply after she was stumped for seven by Bangladesh counterpart Nigar Sultana Joty off the bowling of Fahima Khatun, who finished with 2-19. Bangladesh were left to rue a dropped catch in the eighth over after Fahima shelled a straightforward chance offered by Brits, when she was on 21. Brits was eventually bowled by Ritu Moni but Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon saw South Africa over the line without any further loss. Bangladesh were already all but out of the tournament and this defeat confirmed their exit.

Sunday 13th October 2024 - Venue: Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, Sharjah
Group B: England v Scotland - Scotland Women won the toss and decided to bat
Scotland - 109-6 (20 overs) KE Bryce 33, SJ Bryce 27, Horley 13, Ecclestone 2-13
England - 113-0 (10 overs) Maia Bouchier 62 not out, Danni Wyatt-Hodge 51 not out
England Women win by 10 wickets
Match report by Timothy Abraham, BBC Sport JournalistMaia Bouchier made a classy unbeaten 62 as England moved a step closer to the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup with an emphatic 10-wicket win over Scotland. Scotland were playing for pride in their final match of their first World Cup and saved their best batting performance for last as they compiled 109-6 - their highest score of the tournament. A measured 33 from Kathryn Bryce provided the bulk of the total while younger sibling Sarah chipped in with 27 in Sharjah. Sophie Ecclestone was the pick of England's bowlers as she claimed 2-13 while Lauren Bell, in her first appearance of this World Cup, took 1-13. England's opening pair of Bouchier and Danni Wyatt-Hodge made light work of the target, knocking off the runs in just 10 overs without much trouble. Bouchier, in particular, ruthlessly punished Scotland's bowlers as she and Wyatt-Hodge both made unbeaten half-centuries. The result means unbeaten England moved to the top of Group B on six points and are guaranteed to qualify for the knockout phase with victory over West Indies in their final pool match on Tuesday. England could still progress even if they taste defeat in that match given their net run-rate (NRR) was given a huge boost to +1.716 as they knocked off the runs with a mammoth 60 balls to spare.

India - 142-9 (20 overs) Kaur 54 not out, Sharma 29, Verma 20, Sutherland 2-22
Australia Women win by 9 runs
Match report by Tom Mallows, BBC Sport journalistAustralia secured their place in the Women's T20 World Cup semi-finals with a nine-run win over India, who face a nervous wait to see if they will join them in the final four. The defending champions are certain of topping Group A after winning all four games, but second-placed India need New Zealand to lose to Pakistan on Monday and stay ahead of both sides on net run-rate (NRR) to progress. Needing 152 to win and backed by a large and raucous crowd in Sharjah, India batted aggressively and gamely kept up with the rate. They needed 14 to win off the final over thanks to an excellent 54 from 47 balls from captain Harmanpreet Kaur. But Australia seamer Annabel Sutherland held her nerve, with her over costing just four runs for the loss of three wickets to seal the win. Australia, who were without injured captain Alyssa Healy, earlier recovered from the loss of two early wickets to post 151-8 - their highest score of the tournament. Opener Grace Harris top-scored with 40 from 41 balls, while Ellyse Perry and stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath each added 32.

Group A: Pakistan v New Zealand - New Zealand Women won the toss and decided to bat
New Zealand - 110-6 (20 overs) Bates 28, Halliday 22, Devine 19, Nashra Sandhu 3-18
Pakistan - 56 all out (11.4 overs) Fatima Sana 21, Muneeba Ali 15, Kerr 3-14, Carson 2-7
New Zealand Women win by 54 runs
Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport JournalistNew Zealand booked their place in the semi-finals of the Women's T20 World Cup with a comprehensive 54-run win over Pakistan in Dubai. Pakistan needed to chase their target of 111 within 10.4 overs to keep themselves in knockout contention via net run-rate, but paid the price for their aggressive intent by slumping to 56 all out in 11.4 overs. Despite collapsing to 28-5 after the six-over powerplay, the Pakistan batters kept attacking to keep their hopes alive rather than simply settle for a comfortable chase of less than a run-a-ball. New Zealand's batters had earlier struggled against Pakistan's spin attack, who expertly stifled the run-rate in the middle overs but were let down in the field with eight catches put down. Suzie Bates was dropped twice in her 28, the innings' top score, and then crucially three were put down in the final over which allowed Maddy Green and Izzy Gaze to scamper nine extra runs. But while their 110-6 felt below-par, New Zealand were rewarded for a disciplined all-round bowling effort with some assistance from Pakistan's chaotic but understandable approach. Leg-spinner Melie Kerr starred with 3-14 while fellow spinner Eden Carson took 2-7. It is New Zealand's first semi-final in either white-ball format since 2016, and they join six-time winners Australia from Group A with India eliminated. They will face the winner of Group B which will be either South Africa, England or West Indies, with the latter two teams playing tomorrow.

Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport journalistEngland were knocked out of the Women's T20 World Cup at the end of the group stage after a sloppy all-round performance against West Indies in Dubai. They dropped 5 catches - all off opener Qiana Joseph - as West Indies produced a stunning run chase of 142 to reach the semi-finals at England's expense. Joseph was first dropped on six and then 31 and 35 before departing for a crucial 52 from 38 balls, while captain Hayley Matthews also added a half-century in an opening stand of 102. The pair blasted 67-0 off the powerplay as England wilted under pressure, reminiscent of their semi-final defeat by South Africa in the 2023 tournament. Sophia Dunkley missed the first chance to dismiss Joseph on the square-leg boundary, before Alice Capsey dropped a simple chance at cover and Maia Bouchier proceeded to put down three opportunities. Both Joseph and Matthews departed inside two overs to give England hope, but Deandra Dottin's cameo of 27 from 19 balls swung momentum back in West Indies' favour. England's 141-7 looked competitive at the halfway stage, with Nat Sciver-Brunt's unbeaten 57 from 50 providing the backbone. But England were dealt a cruel blow when captain Heather Knight retired hurt with a tight calf on 21, and her absence was sorely felt in the field as the side could not cope with West Indies' aggression. It is West Indies' first T20 win over England since 2018, and the first time England have failed to make it out of the group stage of the tournament since 2010.

Eliminated England aren't fit enough - Alex Hartley..by Stephan Shemilt, Chief Cricket Writer in Multan
i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/05/12/20/42903128-9571521-image-a-22_1620847067169.jpg Alex Hartley England need to get fitter following their shambolic exit from the Women’s T20 World Cup, according to former spinner Alex Hartley. England dropped five catches in a defeat by West Indies on Tuesday that condemned them to a first group-stage exit since 2010. And Hartley, a 50-over World Cup winner in 2017, told Test Match Special: "I’m not going to name names, but if you look at them, you know. You know who’s blowing a gasket and who isn’t. "About 80% of the England team are fit and athletic enough, but there are girls in that side who are letting the team down when it comes to fitness." England won their opening three group-stage matches, but were still vulnerable when they met the Windies in their final game. England posted 141-7 and, in doing so, lost captain Heather Knight to a calf injury. With Knight unable to field, England fell apart. West Indies reached their target in 18 overs and went through to the semi-finals alongside South Africa, leaving England third in the group on net run-rate. "It’s really disappointing, isn’t it? West Indies played a totally different game to England,” said Hartley, who won 32 caps for England between 2016 and 2019. "There are going to be a lot of questions asked and some of them, rightly so, on fitness. England need to get fitter." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2021/05/12/21/42903404-9571521-England_pair_Alex_Hartley_left_and_Kate_Cross_right_gave_Sportsm-a-1_1620850818010.jpgAlex with Kate CrossAsked if he thought criticism of some of his players' fitness was fair, head coach Jon Lewis told BBC Sport: "No, not really. I don't actually, no. "We train really hard. Our players are very fit. I'm surprised that people would say that, actually. "Fitness was absolutely nothing to do with us losing that game. Our players work incredibly hard around their physical fitness across the board." Hartley used the example of Australia, the premier team in the world, continuing to overlook leg-spinner Amanda-Jade Wellington, who has not played international cricket since 2022. "Australia have got 15 or 16 athletes, genuine athletes," said Hartley. "They have the best leg-spinner in the world in Amanda-Jade Wellington, that doesn’t even get in their squads any more because she’s not fit enough." Knight took charge in 2016 and led England to their last major trophy in 2017. Hartley pointed to the chaos in the field in Knight’s absence as a reason for the 33-year-old to stay on. She also supported former England men's bowler Lewis. "When you have not won a World Cup for so long, things need to change," said Hartley. "Last night showed how much England need Heather Knight on the field, because she’s a calm character. She wasn’t there and everyone was looking around all flustered. "I don’t know where change comes from. I think Jon Lewis is the right man for the job. He has changed women’s cricket, getting the girls to realise they can have a better work-life balance. "Whether or not they have potentially gone too far the other way, I’m not sure."

Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport journalistAustralia suffered a shock semi-final exit from the T20 World Cup as South Africa raced to an emphatic nine-wicket win in Dubai. The defending champions missed out on an eighth final appearance as the Proteas reached to their target of 135 with 16 balls to spare. Anneke Bosch struck a sensational unbeaten 74 from 48 balls while captain Laura Wolvaardt added a classy 42 in a second-wicket partnership of 96 that left Australia reeling. The epic run chase came after South Africa's bowlers had smartly restricted Australia to 134-5 in a curiously underwhelming innings. Grace Harris and Georgia Wareham fell early in the powerplay before opener Beth Mooney dropped anchor with 44 from 42 balls. But they paid the price for stuttering in the middle overs, with the run-rate rarely creeping over a run-a-ball as captain Tahlia McGrath trudged to 27 from 33. Ellyse Perry's 31 from 23 and Phoebe Litchfield's nine-ball 16 added a late burst but the total still felt below-par on a pitch that favoured chasing, as West Indies proved against England on Wednesday. South Africa started the chase confidently with a powerplay of 43-1, comfortably ahead of Australia's 35-2 at the same stage, before Tazmin Brits' departure for 15 kickstarted the phenomenal partnership. Bosch, whose previous high score in the tournament was 25, crunched eight fours and a six in her match-winning effort which rewarded the faith of the South Africa selectors who kept her place at number three in the line-up, and saw them reach their second successive final after the 2023 edition on home soil. The second semi-final takes place between New Zealand and West Indies at Sharjah on Friday, meaning Sunday's final will be the first in either white-ball format without Australia or England involved.

West Indies - 120-8 (20 overs) Dottin 33, Matthews 15, Fletcher 17 not out, Carson 3-29
New Zealand Women win by 8 runs
Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport journalistThe Women's T20 World Cup is guaranteed a first-time winner as New Zealand beat West Indies by eight runs to join South Africa in Sunday's final. West Indies slipped to 63-5 in pursuit of 129 on Sharjah's slow pitch, before Deandra Dottin's dynamic 33 from 22 balls, with three sixes, rejuvenated the chase. But Melie Kerr struck the crucial blow in the 17th over to have Dottin caught at short fine leg which all-but sealed the White Ferns' victory. The experienced Suzie Bates was tasked with defending 14 off the final over, having not bowled all tournament, but held her nerve as West Indies finished on 120-8. Kerr finished with 2-14 and Eden Carson 3-29 to prevent West Indies from reaching their second final, which will be contested at the more batter-friendly Dubai. In contrast to their explosive innings against England on Tuesday, West Indies struggled for fluency with opener Qiana Joseph falling for 12, captain Hayley Matthews stuttering to 15 from 21 balls and veteran Stafanie Taylor only managing 13. Dottin was dropped three times as she tried in vain to catch up with the run-rate with her usual aggression, but it proved beyond even her reach as West Indies paid the price for a pedestrian start which included a powerplay score of just 25-2. The all-rounder, who reversed her retirement to play in this tournament, earlier took 4-22 as New Zealand also could not score freely on the tricky surface. Therefore the toss proved pivotal as Sophie Devine opted to bat first, with Georgia Plimmer's 33 from 31 balls the top score while Brooke Halliday's nine-ball 18 provided some much-needed impetus after the cautious start to the innings. Regular wickets had heaped the pressure on the middle order, with Melie Kerr, Maddy Green and Rosemary Mair departing for single-figure scores to Dottin but Izzy Gaze's 20 not out provided a late flurry for New Zealand to reach their eventual match-winning total. It is New Zealand's first World Cup final appearance since 2010, when they were beaten by Australia. ss-i.thgim.com/public/incoming/o3oeca/article68770512.ece/alternates/LANDSCAPE_1200/Emirates_Womens_World_T20_Cricket_New_Zealand_West_Indies_07116.jpg New Zealand players celebrate after winning against the West Indies.

i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/10/20/21/91073419-0-image-a-105_1729456098892.jpg New Zealand finally got their hands on the trophy after runners-up finishes in 2009 and 2010
Match report by Ffion Wynne, BBC Sport journalistWhen victory was confirmed, captain Sophie Devine looked to the sky in a brave attempt to fight back tears and Suzie Bates, her international team-mate since 2006, leapt into her arms in an overload of emotions from joy, to disbelief, to pure ecstasy at a lifelong dream finally being achieved. It was the crowning moment for 35-year-old Devine and Bates, 37, who have made a combined 624 appearances for their beloved White Ferns. For a pair who have seen it all, who have lived and breathed every single moment of New Zealand cricket's highs and lows - back-to-back final defeats in 2009 and 2010, to the 10 consecutive losses leading into this tournament, all culminating in the most unlikely victory in their 18th year of international sport. Neither had particularly eye-catching tournaments in terms of statistics, and by their own high standards, but cricket goes beyond numbers. Bates' experience at the top of the order allowed her 20-year-old partner Georgia Plimmer to express herself freely, both finishing at the team's joint-highest run-scorers with 150 each. Devine's calming influence as captain and unwavering trust in her players allowed Melie Kerr to take a record-breaking 15 wickets in the campaign. With Bates' and Devine's glory comes an unforgettable moment for a country with a population of fewer than six million, where its best female athletes tend to opt for netball and rugby, where they are not blessed with a talent pool in the vein of Australia, India or England. But the bigger picture for the women's game goes beyond New Zealand's story. Their victory offers hope for a sport that was becoming too predictable, such was Australia's dominance in winning six of the past seven titles. It has proven that the gap between Australia and the rest may not be as big as we once thought - but the game must not become complacent. It must be a turning point, not the endgame.
