Taylor Moore Scott Sinclair and Promise all missed presentable chances.
Overall two goals conceded both of which were defensive errors.

For me, Stockport merely showed a cutting edge in what, in many other ways, was an even contest, not one they dominated. We were sloppy and made mistakes with both goals too, it can be said.
Very Good game Griffith, okay Conteh, Thomas, but poor game, ward, mola, bilongo, and Martin’s worrying start to the season continues.
Rovers play down the left a lot more than the right, but to stretch organised defence you do need to be able to quickly switch play across pitch a lot more effectively and have some numbers over there.
It looks like the fixture computer and cup draws handed us a pretty tough start to the campaign, so it’s hard to gauge how it’s going to settle down for us in the coming months. We have asked all opponents a lot of questions, without showing much cutting edge, and look largely organised and determined in what I’ve seen.
Will be somewhere in top half of table by Christmas I think.

An extremely frustrating day.
We are seriously lacking in midfield creativity while our attacking threat is non existent.
Stockport are a good team and will probably finish in the top ten, we really should be competing with teams at that level.
Yes, we are still a work in progress and way off the finished article I get that, but it would be good to see some small incremental progress in each game.
Today felt like a step backwards.

Sounds like we defended quite well, apart from a couple of errors that were punished. Created chances in attack but did'nt take them.
Or,
Poor defence allowed a dangerous team to score. Not good enough. Created chances, did'nt take them. Not good enough.
Either way only two things to improve. Defence and attack.

Lot’s to improve on, but not a million miles away. County were sharper, and masters of the niggly foul to break up play. Our time will come.
Commentary (Rad Bris) on BRTV stuttered virtually the whole game, pity, as was happy listening to the Duke.

Both sides worked hard, pressed well, and it was competitive stuff Martin doesn't look 100% yet (no surprise), and Promise isn't quite clicking with the tempo yet (though he is working prodigiously hard) - I'm not sure if that's due to his touch or his timing. Hutch isn't quite clicking with the tempo either But we had several really good chances, and on another day they'd go in. It's easy to over-react after either a win or a defeat, and I like the general direction of travel We were a bit lucky to win our 1st game, a bit unlucky to lose this one, and the draw last week was probably fair. The players are giving 100%, and are very much in the games, so that's easy to support for me Some of Norwood's cross-field passes were two or three cuts above this level Connor Taylor looked like the full Connor Taylor when he came on. Garrett looked like the snappy little card-collector that the Blackburn fan on here promised us. Bilongo didn't have his best game, and it was a bit disappointing not to see Kofi Shaw - although this would have been a tough introduction to League One.

Cambridge next,at the Mem. The type of game we really ought to try and get 3 points from.
Tougher games after that.
I wonder what Al Saeeds minimum expectation mark is for this season?
He's spent a few bob and he did'nt hang about with sacking Joe Barton, telling us the Board were unhappy with the league position considering how much money had been spent. At least that's what he told us.
During last seasons waste of time ( after JB was sacked ) ,Al Saeed told some "wait till next season ".
Well here we are.
Today Rovers were punished ,like Blackpool were last week for poor defensive mistakes. Blackpool sacked their manager.
Who knows what will happen ,but we gave goals away today and could'nt hit a barn door upfront.
Plenty of effort, but the attacking and defending bits are really quite important.
Really need to beat Cambridge United or MT might already be on a trajectory for the exit door.
A pessimistic post, but if you can't defend and can't score....

Bilongo didn't have his best game, and it was a bit disappointing not to see Kofi Shaw - although this would have been a tough introduction to League One. Martin not being 100 percent yet is 100 percent his fault. Headbutting a young Cambridge defender at the end of last season resulted in a 4-match ban and an obligation on him to maintain his fitness outside of a match environment. He is a senior pro, so should know how to do this, even if he hasn't yet learned not to shove his forehead into somebody's else's face.
Promise is a 500,000 striker. Jefferson Louis and Chris Zebroski gave us effort and precious little else. We need much, much more from him, and he needs to start producing soon. The price tag is high, and our expectations should be similarly high. I'm not reassured by a fan on the other forum saying he reminds him of Brandon Hanlan.
Norwood was a top championship player not that long ago. I originally thought you meant the quite cr*p one we had in the dark days under McGhee, who deserved to get more of the flak that was almost entirely aimed at O'Toole, but a quick Wikipedia check confirmed you didn't.
That is all.

Exacto!….It was clear to see those who were not quite at the races yet. I had also hoped to see Shaw, our best young prospect in many a year. Without the pomp and pageantry, I feel Taylor is moving us in the right direction.

Stockport County 2-0 Bristol Rovers: Gas' fall to first league defeat of season..By Daniel Hargraves
Match Stats: SCFC 2 BRFC 0 - Possession: 62% - 38% - Shots: 18-11 - On Target: 8-3 - Corners: 8-4 - Refferee: Paul Howard - Attendance: 9,423 (768 gasheads)i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9501282.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200/0_Live-blog-template-11.pngBristol Rovers were dealt their first league defeat of the season away at Stockport County, losing 2-0 with goals either side of half-time from Louie Barry and Kyle Wooton. The Gas enjoyed a positive opening 30 minutes and had chances fall to Taylor Moore, Bryant Bilongo and Promise Omochere but couldn't find the back of the net before a Barry volley from very little handed the hosts the lead late in the first half. Rovers then started the second half poorly and eventually found themselves 2-0 down as Wooton converted from close range following a corner. Further chances fell to Omochere as well as substitutes Scott Sinclair and Jake Garrett but Matt Taylor's side's woes in front of goal continued. i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9508317.ece/ALTERNATES/s510b/0_PPAUK_Bristol_Rovers_v_Northampton_Town-_090824_029-1JPG.jpg

I thought we were dreadful.
Often when ive seen us play badly before its just been one of those things, those inconsistences that happen with our level.
Today they simply couldnt play any better, there is nothing there. Total lack of creativity and Promise is a poor player who theyve gambled on and its unfortunately going to fail. Hutchinson is out of his depth as well.
Mobile Striker, 2nd keeper and a midfelder who can create needed or the seasons over.

Sorry to hear that about the new players but so long as the management team have a plan we can legitimately say it’s early days yet. For Omochere, Hutchinson, Sotiriou, Conteh and Senior we should have identified their weaknesses and formulated a plan with the aim of turning them from average League 1/League 2 players into exceptional League 1 players with Championship potential. For Mola, Bilongo and Anthony we should have found out why their previous clubs released them and worked out what we will do differently to make them fulfill the initial potential they had and, again, have a plan which aims to turn them into exceptional League 1 players with Championship potential. Do we have a plan ?

Just saw the highlights...terrible goals conceded..just awful to watch...marking shocking...don't head the ball to an opponent. I thought we were supposed to be better defensively. Sinclair should have scored but crap goals conceded!

The commentary was so annoying, but it’s not the first time it’s happened with radio Bristol. Amateurish. The Trophy game on Tuesday had the Sky commentary.

Yep, just about sums it up. We started well and looked the far better side with some good passing movement and composure on the ball. Then it all evaporated. We were never going to come back after the first goal let alone the second. And they knew it.

Do we have a plan ? Wow I never realised that JB and his motley crew had a great plan! After all they turned free transfers Collins and Evans into about £1 million of profit! Did not realise you were a fan of his. Don't all clubs try and improve individuals and teams during the season? Conteh is the only player you mention that has a run of games, are you saying he has not improved? Re some other comments on this thread. Basel there has been very limited team changes for league games, only one yesterday! Someone said we needed another keeper, why? Many clubs now just have the one main keeper, if hey are injured or suspended they go for emergency loan, saves on wages.
