Always good to practice penalties, in stadium in front of fans. Holloways Dad told him, no one should ever miss a penalty. And he’s right - the only way they can be saved is if the taker gives keeper a chance. Aside from all the mind games getting the keeper to dive first, if you put it in either top corner at some pace, it’s unsaveable. cassanova’s scoring again. Sotiriou‘s penalty was rubbish. Chin up Garrett. Rovers make a point. Handed out some debut’s. And some more minutes in legs for key players in league campaign, from entertaining game. No negatives tonight. 👍🏻 It wasn't Garretts finest 97 minutes tonight and sadly the pen rounded off an unimpressive performance that notwithstanding a great contest and good to see the fringe players in Taylor's young squad impress.

It was a very enjoyable game.We pushed the best youth team in the country to the absolute limit with a mix of our young uns. Shaw is some talent, he reminds me of the 17 year old Nathan Ellington we signed under Holloway in 1999. I hope he is used as the same type of impact sub as the duke used to be. I think he can grab himself 5-10 goals this year if he continues like he has in pre season and the few games. Senior is good player, as is Anthony, Hutchinson and McCormick played better today. Good signs.

Excellent entertainment tonight watched by 1600 fans.
Hall Senior Anthony Sousa Forbes and Shaw all did very well.
Martin well off the pace and pity Garrett missed a penalty. Spurs were not as good as West Ham U21s from last season.

Spurs were not as good as West Ham U21s from last season. Mikey Moore became seventeen on 11th August. His physique, physicality and impact on tonight’s game is extraordinary considering his age. He was the clear man of match I think. like I said up thread, they are doing something with very young players these days, where building necessary body strength is no longer a few seasons ‘work in progress’ into their early 20s. Spurs have been doing well in PL2, where boys can come up against professional seasoned pro’s, and the body strength the boys have these days is likely proving a great leveller. PL2 winning sides would absolutely thrash Englands 1966 Word Cup winning team. These under 21s are absolute machines.

Bristol Rovers 3-3 Tottenham Hotspur U21s in their opening EFL Trophy group tie, missing out on the extra point after a penalty shootout..By Daniel HargravesBristol Rovers earned a point in their first EFL Trophy group match of the season following an entertaining 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s at the Mem. Isaac Hutchinson gave the Gas an early lead with his first strike for the club having been the only player to have also started the goalless draw at Rotherham United three days prior. Rovers couldn't find a second as they dominated the early proceedings before Tottenham grew into the game, finding an equaliser in impressive fashion via Will Lankshear. Spurs then took the lead as Mikey Moore beat Matt Hall from a tight angle before Kofi Shaw equalised with his first senior goal for the club. Goals from Damola Ajayi and then Luke McCormick saw the tie end level at three apiece before the visitors earned an extra point after winning the eventual penalty shootout 6-5. In the end, an entertaining evening although it's a game that will have very little consequence on the season as a whole. Also one to remember for the club's academy with Kofi Shaw the star of the show. Match Stats: BRFC 3 THFC U21's 3 - Possession: 35% - 65% - Shots: 21-12 - On Target: 5-7 - Corners: 6-3 - Attendance: 1,584 - Referee: James Oldham

Bristol Rovers player ratings vs Tottenham U21s..By Daniel Hargraves
Matt Hall - 5 Not much to do in the first half and couldn't have done anything about the goal. However, second half was eventful in both ways for the stand-in goalkeeper on his first appearance for Bristol Rovers since signing last summer. Despite a couple of decent saves, the 21-year-old was beaten at his near-post for Tottenham Under-21s' second goal and played the ball straight to goalscorer Damola Ajayi for the third. Largely good distribution too but the mistakes will unfortunately overshadow what he did well.
Joel Senior - 6 Based on his first handful of appearances for Rovers both competitively and in friendlies, Senior evidently likes to get in behind and put a cross in. A couple of decent deliveries. Defensively not his or any of his colleagues at the back's best nights.
Connor Taylor - 6 Solid in spells but the centre-back is capable of playing much better. That is of course because his level is extremely high. Provided a physical presence at the back but won't be happy conceding three goals and it there could have been more.
Michael Forbes - 6 Similarly to the above, won't be happy the goals conceded but provided a presence at the back. Also credited with the assist for Kofi Shaw's goal but found himself in the referee's book for a foul in the build-up to Tottenham's second.
Lino Sousa - 6 Got in behind on a couple of occasions, linking up nicely with Micah Anthony at times. Evidently an intelligent player from the way that he anticipated the ball when making interceptions. Decent start offensively and got better as the game went on.
Jake Garrett - 7 A lot to like about the midfielder on the ball. Silky, and solid. Always tracked back for the cause and got himself involved. Was also put on a number of corners and put in some eye-catching deliveries. Unlucky to be the one whose penalty proved decisive for the wrong reasons. Good shift during the 90.
Isaac Hutchinson - 8 A goal and an assist, you can't ask for much more from an attack-minded midfielder. Not that the summer arrival has been poor in any way in the two league games so far, but he hasn't demonstrated his capabilities in the way he would have liked, making his performance this evening pleasing indeed.
A lovely finish for the goal to hand the Gas the lead, Hutchinson oozed class on the ball when he had space to run into, getting his assist via a cross for Luke McCormick's equaliser to make the tie 3-3. Hopefully we'll start to see more of his best in the league after this one.
Luke McCormick - 7 Despite being lively, McCormick hadn't quite made the impact he would have liked before getting his goal, finding the back of the net with a lovely header. The forward was then unlucky not to get a second, seeing a shot blocked and then a follow-up saved.
Kofi Shaw (off for Ollie Dewsbury 84') - 8 Outstanding. The 17-year-old was a real handful against players that were closer to his age than most of his teammates, being an absolute menace to defend against. Skillful and smart, the teenager played with a maturity well above his age range.
The goal was the least he deserved, equalising to make the scoreline 2-2, bundling home a loose ball from a corner with a firm finish. If that was an audition to be involved in Rovers' league plans, I'm not sure what else he could have done.
Micah Anthony - 7 Extremely energetic down the left for Rovers, evidently playing with a point to prove. Plenty of tricks up his sleeve, frequently skipping past defenders. End product will need a bit of work naturally but a really exciting talent who consistently tried to get himself involved in any flurries forward.
Chris Martin (off for Ruel Sotiriou 46') - 6 Had one decent opportunity which he will have felt he should have done better with, sliding onto a cross and guiding it just wide. Tried to throw himself about but doesn't seem fully fit yet, hence the running drills at half-time and the substitution.
Substitutes: Ruel Sotiriou (on 46') - 6 Will be frustrated he didn't get on the scoresheet having hit the post and missed a few other chances in the second half. Looks a real handful to deal with. Excited to see how he gets on once fully fit.
Ollie Dewsbury (on 84') - N/A Came on too late to make a genuine impact but got himself involved and offered fresh legs up front. Nice little cameo for the 16-year-old.
