Inspired by RITS post on another thread, which suggested that loans are rarely very successful, I wondered who the best loanees Rovers have had are?
I can’t think of many, but I don’t have a brain like Harry’s. I think that bloke we got from QPR at the end of a season, and who rather saved our bacon, was a loanee? Dennis something?

Hat trick at Manure for QPR... New Years Day? He didn't come back.

Cureton started out here on loan and didn’t turn out too badly. If memory serves me well, 3 Marks also started as loanees and weren’t too shsbby - O’Connor, McKeever and McCrystal

Cureton started out here on loan and didn’t turn out too badly. If memory serves me well, 3 Marks also started as loanees and weren’t too shsbby - O’Connor, McKeever and McCrystal According to Wikipedia, McCrystal was on a short-term contract. McKeever was quite impressive but wasn't once the move became permanent. He lost all confidence and it was sad to see. J.J O'Toole was very impressive when on loan here, even giving the impression of being a professional footballer. Danny Coles would have been a top player without injuries, and he originally joined us on loan. Looking back, I'm amazed that we got Cureton on a loan, let alone a permanent deal - he had the potential to be a top, top player, and was once on Alex Ferguson's radar. The failures are however far, far more numerous. The ones I really dislike who misleadingly give the impression they are going to be good before underwhelming - we had the 'Ginger Pirlo' last season, Charlie Colkett before that and, going back even further, Chris Dickson. I liked Trollope's approach - only loan players who you think you have a chance of signing, don't use the loan market to plug gaps in the squad, and don't bring in too many loans.

McKeever did ok for us for a while iirc. Had a blinder in the demolition of Reading at the Madjeski.
Wiki may be right about McCrystal. Really liked him - as honest as the day is long, and definitely did what it says on his tin - every time he pulled the shirt on.
Coles may have been a good player but I never warmed to his attitude. Came across as more than a touch arrogant. Ditto JJOT.
Agree with you about the Trolls approach to loanees. Especially not keen on us developing other clubs keepers right now and feel for Ward who I don’t think put a foot wrong last season.

All did well as loanees and Cureton and McCrystal only ones that signed on permanents. Both did well.
UTG!

In your opinion but not mine. Quansah has certainly proved himself in the Liverpool first team since just like Anderson did at Newcastle United.

If you had asked any of our fans where he would be in the following season, nobody would have said he would be playing frequently in the LFC team and on the verge of an England call up. Vale did reasonably well, and Aguilera showed potential.
