James Alfred Connolly, Centre Half of this parish, strongly rumoured to be departing permanently to Crewe Alexandra.
Disappointed he never kicked on, was a key member of the side for a while.
Good luck to him up north

As I posted ,Beefy thoroughly applauded the Mem crowd on being substituted in the Plymouth Argyle game.It had the look of cheerio about it.
I think him a decent player and if he's on his way,I wish him well.

James Connolly nearing permanent Bristol Rovers exit after deal agreed with League Two outfit..By Daniel Hargraves
The popular defender appears close to an exit from Bristol Rovers after two-and-a-half years at the club..i2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9452603.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_GettyImages-2144002362-1.jpgJames Connolly is closing in on a permanent move to Crewe Alexandra after two-and-a-half years at Bristol Rovers, Bristol Live understands As first reported by Football Insider, the 22-year-old defender has agreed terms with the League Two club and is expected to sign a two-year deal at The Mornflake Stadium with the exact fee currently unclear. Despite his involvement in Rovers' pre-season preparations, the centre-back has always been a player likely to depart BS7 this summer if the right deal could be agreed. With the signings of Taylor Moore, Clinton Mola, Michael Forbes (on loan from West Ham United) and Dan Ellison as well as having Connor Taylor back fit and James Wilson, Connolly was going to struggle for regular game time in blue-and-white quarters. Connolly's departure would also see the conclusion of the scouse contigent that had grown within the Gas squad over recent years. Former captain Sam Finley and Jordan Rossiter departed at the end of their contracts while Antony Evans left for Huddersfield Town last month. Over the past handful of months, former manager Joey Barton, coaches Andy Mangan and Danny Ventre and head of football operations Eddy Jennings, who all also hail from Merseyside, have also left the club. Taylor admitted after Rovers' 2-1 friendly win over Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday that more departures could be possible, as well as incomings, with this summer seeing a complete overhaul of the playing squad.

Imagine we are taking a substantial hit on what we paid for him. I very much doubt Crewe are paying over 200,000 and would be surprised if it was half that.
Shame as I was hoping that he and Connor Taylor would be our Tillson/Billy Clark.

James Connolly becomes latest member of Bristol Rovers' League Two promotion squad to depart..By Daniel Hargraves
He made 73 appearances for Bristol Rovers and was an integral player in their League Two promotion sidei2-prod.bristolpost.co.uk/incoming/article9454724.ece/ALTERNATES/s1176b/0_JS264896977.jpgJames Connolly has completed a permanent transfer to League Two side Crewe Alexandra, putting an end to two-and-a-half years at Bristol Rovers. Signing a two-year deal at The Mornflake Stadium, Connolly has become the 11th player, excluding loanees, to depart the Gas over this summer on a permanent basis and is also the latest member from the League Two promotion squad to bid farewell to BS7. Over the course of this summer, Rovers have seen Sam Finley, John Marquis, Josh Grant, Lewis Gordon, James Gibbons, Ryan Jones, Harvey Greenslade, Luca Hoole, Jordan Rossiter and Antony Evans all leave the club with the majority Gas players during the 2021/22 campaign. Connolly made a total of 73 appearances for the Gas, 25 of which coming in the promotion campaign, and was a integral part of the side that enjoyed an outstanding run of form to clinch automatic promotion dramatically on the final day of that season. Having initially joined on loan from Cardiff City in January 2022, the young defender went on to play every minute of Rovers' final 24 league games, forming a formidable partnership alongside Taylor. Whether the Gas intend to sign another centre-back before the transfer window closes on August 30 is yet to be seen but, speaking after their win over Plymouth, Matt Taylor admitted that there's still "a bit left" to be done in the window.

Surprising because the gap between the mid-bottom of L1 and L2 isn't actually that large. I would have thought he would have been able to make the step up. We had a similar situation a few years ago with Bolger and Parkes, who were supposed to be our long-term CB pairing but things didn't work out.
